Condense the same volume of items into just half the storage space with efficient positioning of pallets within the Instantly Adjustable Rack System.

Go online to www.ban-air.com for animated guides to how the system works and to see the many benefits of IARS.

Ban-Air® Storage Systems is a leading manufacturer and turnkey supplier of high quality, durable storage and handling solutions. With over a decade of experience and hundreds of installations completed worldwide, Ban-Air has developed a unique product offering to provide highly versatile and effective solutions to address any storage problem.

The Ban-Air concept is centered on maximizing storage capacity and reducing under-utilized storage space to effectively BAN the wasteful storage of AIR!

Standard storage racks are constructed from upright frames and platforms creating shelves of fixed height. These platforms bolt or slot into position and can only be adjusted by first emptying all stock from the system and then by lifting personnel and tools into position with an access platform.

Despite being ‘adjustable’, these shelves rarely get reconfigured. Stock does not fit easily or efficiently into such fixed shelf spaces and as a result shelves can lie empty or under-utilized.

The shelves, or pallets, in the Ban-Air Instantly Adjustable Rack SystemTM (IARS) can be completely removed from their free-standing rack structure with the use of a standard forklift, allowing for variable pallet configurations. This enables you to optimize limited storage space and eliminate wasteful storage of air.

CUSTOM-FIT STORAGE

Our Ban-Air racking systems are designed and constructed to offer the most flexible configurations for your storage needs.

The Instantly Adjustable Rack System (IARS) benefits from a modular, bolt-together design, allowing for custom configuration from standard components in every installation design, to maximize the available warehouse cube in the shortest service time.

Systems of different height and width (providing the depth remains constant) can be joined together to create a custom-fit rack for your individual needs. The rack can be built around obstacles such as changing ceiling height, pipes, or structural support columns that may normally cause problems when fitting a standard racking structure.

A combination of pallet types can be stored within the same rack including Light-Duty Shelves, Standard- or Heavy-Duty Pallets, to provide flexible storage for a variety of different items within the same area. The entire system can also be dismantled and reconfigured to meet changing ongoing requirements.

FLEXIBLE SOLUTIONS OPTIMIZE ALL AVAILABLE STORAGE SPACE

4

Page 5: Ban-Air IARS and WalkLift Brochure

OPTIMIZED SPACE

All Ban-Air systems achieve extremely high density storage, utilizing the full available height of your warehouse in order to maximize cubic storage capacity.

Instantly adjust the height of the pallets with any type of forklift to create truly flexible storage accommodation that can quickly change and adapt to your requirements.

Optional continuous load-bearing Top Shelves create additional vertical space and allow for the storage of items that vary in width outside the scope of the main rack system, providing optimum flexibility for both the heights and widths on non-regular palletized loads.

IMPROVED EFFICIENCY

An integrated lifting and handling device, or WalkLift, can be fitted to your rack system to help make the loading and unloading of pallets safer, easier and more efficient.

With no specific operator license requirements, the WalkLift can help to empower every individual operator with a minimum of training to manage their own workloads, improving productivity and reducing lengthy waits for a forklift or certified forklift operator.

Find out more about the benefits of the Ban-Air WalkLift on page 17.

The Ban-Air WalkLift can help to overcome some of the real dangers related to common forklift usage in the workplace:

The self-contained, manual system cannot tip or overturn

The restricted speed of the forks and built in safety features significantly reduces the possibility of nearby workers being injured

The system is 75 per cent lighter than a standard forklift, making movements more accurate and reducing dramatically electrical power consumption

Users always operate the system at ground level with detachable pendant controller for greater visibility at all heights

The system has very low maintenance requirements that can be easily managed in-house

Forklift Overturns

Lost control or driving off loading docks

Falls from forklifts

Workers struck or crushed by forklift

Failure to inspect or maintain forklifts

Improper design such as narrow aisles

Using the Ban-Air WalkLift eliminates the cause of common forklift-related injuries:

WalkLift cannot tip or overturn

Integrated part of racking system

Operated at ground level

Restricted fork speeds

Low maintenance requirements

WalkLift can operate in narrow spaces

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT USER BENEFIT

90° ROTATION LOCK (MANUAL ROTATION ONLY) Prevents the mast from rotating when engaged. Locks the mast into intervals at 90 degrees

8” LCD VIDEO PALLET ALIGNMENT ASSIST Visual aid for loading and unloading pallets in rack systems taller than 16’ (4.9m). Camera is mounted to the carriage and the monitor is mounted to the mast at operator level

DIGITAL FORK HEIGHT INDICATOR Visual aid for loading and unloading pallets in rack systems of any height. Digital indicator is mounted at operator level and counts in incremental values

MAST MOUNTED VERTICAL LOCATOR A labeling system on the front column of the rack identifying each load position with a numerical value. A pointer is mounted to the carriage to aid the operator in locating specific locations. Commonly used for cost effectiveness

MAST FLOOR LOCK (MANUAL ROTATION ONLY) Locking mechanism to prevent the trolley from moving. Used when the process requires leaving a pallet on the stacker unit while the load is transferred or while a person works off the pallet

TROLLEY CENTRE OF AISLE INDICATOR LIGHT A light mounted on the pendant or mast assembly that gives indication to the operator when the trolley is located in the centre of aisle. Commonly used when handling large loads in which the operator has difficulty seeing around the load. The light assists the operator with keeping the trolley in the centre of the aisle as he travels. This option is available with a bridge interlock as well which prevents the operator from moving the bridge unless the trolley is in the centre of the aisle

WARNING LIGHT A light mounted to the bridge assembly that flashes when the crane unit is turned on. Commonly used in high pedestrian traffic areas as a means to alert persons to equipment operation

WARNING HORN Horn mounted to the bridge assembly. The horn sounds when the crane is turned on and at the start of any function. Commonly used in high pedestrian traffic areas or locations surrounded by loud equipment. It is a means to alert persons to equipment operation

BRIDGE TRAVEL SLOW DOWN LIMIT Limit switch mounted to the runway at a predetermined location. When the bridge travels past and trips the switch the bridge will travel only at a pre-set slow speed. Most often used when using a stacker to load or unload a machine. Also commonly used to prevent the operator from driving the bridge into the runway end stops at full speed

BRIDGE TRAVEL STOP LIMIT Limit switch mounted to the runway at a predetermined location. When the bridge travels past and trips the switch the bridge motion in that direction is stopped. Commonly used as a means to accurately load and unload machines or racking. Prevents the operator from accidental over travel. Also used as a fail safe to prevent the bridge from running into the end stops at full speed

TROLLEY TRAVEL SLOW DOWN LIMIT Limit switch mounted to the bridge where the trolley rides in a predetermined location. When the trolley travels past and trips the switch the trolley will travel at only a pre-set slow speed. Most often used when a stacker is used to load or unload machines

TROLLEY TRAVEL STOP LIMIT Limit switch mounted to the bridge where the trolley rides in a predetermined location. When the trolley travels past and trips the switch the trolley travel in that direction is stopped. Often used to accurately load or unload machines or racking. Prevents the operator from accidental over travel

STATIONARY MAN-ABOARD CAB ASSEMBLY Operator platform that remains fixed in place on the mast. Recommended for high production stacker crane units and long systems

ZONING PACKAGE W/BAY & AISLE CENTERING & INTERLOCKS (CONSULT FACTORY FOR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS)

Restrictive control packages which limit movement of the stacker unless specific criteria are adhered to. PLC’s are used to control the movements and interlock the controls. Commonly used when working in extremely tight areas or as a fail safe to prevent equipment / product damage or operator injury

RADIO CONTROLLED OPERATION Allows operation of the stacker via a radio control. This feature requires that all motions are motorized. Used when it is unsafe for the operator to be close to the load or when aisles are too narrow to accommodate a person walking behind the stacker mast

VFC HOIST CONTROL Controls the hoist in the same manner as the controls for any other motorized function (see VFC definition in terminology section). Used when extreme precision is required to place or retrieve a load

CALCULATING YOUR REQUIREMENTS

To determine the size of Instantly Adjustable Racking System and/or WalkLift that will be most suitable for your requirements, follow the steps below:

1. Measure the height of the area from the floor to the lowest overhead obstruction such as lights, beams or support structures. Check this measurement at several locations to account for variations in floor level.

2. Measure and draw out a detailed floor plan of the area identifying any columns or obstructions. Ensure that sufficient clearance is given to fire exits and doors, loading bays, office areas, sockets, switches and charging stations.

3. Select an overall system height (E or F depending on whether WalkLift is included) from the chart opposite that will clear all obstructions in the area, allowing appropriate space to nearest overhead obstruction. From that system height, identify the height of the supporting rack (E). This will give a capacity value useful in selecting the number of pallets required.

4. Select a standard pallet size from the chart below and calculate the number of rack bays required for your requirements based on total length (A) and width (B) available or desired.

Example:

A 16’ high (4677mm) rack has a total of 31P available pallet load positions

A load height of 22” / 550mm will require 5P

A load height of 40” / 1000mm will require 8P

A combination of three 5P load heights and two 8P load heights = 31P (3 x 5) + (2 x 8) = 31

Based on this configuration, five pallets will be required per bay

Follow the steps below to determine the number of pallets you require for your racking system:

IDENTIFY YOUR REQUIRED LOAD HEIGHTS AND USING THE PALLET LOAD HEIGHT DIAGRAM ON THE RIGHT, NOTE HOW

MANY LOAD POINTS ARE REQUIRED.

THIS POINTS SYSTEM ACCOUNTS FOR THE REQUIRED SPACE TAKEN BY THE PALLET AND SAFE WORKING CLEARANCES.

2

USING YOUR COMBINATION OF LOAD HEIGHTS, CALCULATE HOW MANY PALLETS CAN BE STORED WITHIN ONE BAY OF RACK. MULTIPLY THE NUMBER

OF PALLETS REQUIRED PER BAY, BY THE NUMBER OF BAYS WITHIN YOUR RACK TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL NUMBER OF PALLETS REQUIRED.

3

Using this guide will ensure optimal spacing of loads in the system and will maximize the effective use of cubic space.
