BA (Hons) in Communications in Creative Multimedia iKidz iKidz is a multimedia package consisting of a children’s interactive storybook, coupled with a website. It’s aim is to increase elements of independence in children aged 4-5 years old in preparation for starting primary school. The interactive book tells the story of Anna’s first day of school. Sé Déag Sé Déag, or Sixteen is an audio visual experience which transports the audience to evening time on Henrietta Street during the lead up to the 1916 Easter Rising. As users walk along the street, silhouettes in the windows they pass depict six moments in the conception and planning of the Rising. Think Twice ‘Think Twice’ is an awareness campaign aimed at able bodied people using disabled toilets and the effect this has on disabled people’s quest for independence. The campaign utilises viral videos, poster and social media campaigns, and a radio advertisement. Chinese vs Traditional Character Design in League of Legends This project is a research backed study into character design preferences among western and eastern game players that has put into practice through the creation of a set of 3d modelled and animated game avatars. I-Speak I-Speak is an interactive fairy tale for young children played on a computer. The audience interacts with ‘Kespy’ during the unfolding of the tale through a toy telephone. Fáiltiú On behalf of the Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music may I extend a warm welcome to you all to Fís 16. The formation of our new Department in September 2016 has signalled a very exciting development for DkIT; the Department now houses a comprehensive list of programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level spanning the music and creative media disciplines. We are very excited about the future for staff and students across our programmes to collaborate on many innovative and creative projects. In the past academic year we introduced a number of new and exciting programmes: Diploma in Composing for Games, BA Theatre and Film Practice and our online MA Traditional Music Studies. We continue to develop a strong research community of postgraduate students in our Department who are engaged in leading research in their chosen field. The inclusion of work in Fís 16 by students across a variety of degree programmes represents the diversity of excellent creative work being completed by our students. Many of our students have had great success at national and international competitions and festivals. Fís 16 allows us the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all of our students and gives them the opportunity to showcase their work to family and friends. Throughout the year our Department has played a central role in the Institute’s commemorative programme of events to mark the centenary of 1916. In this year of celebration, we reflect on many of the remarkable people involved in the 1916 rising. We should remember that the leaders and their regiments comprised of musicians, poets, scholars, actors, playwrights and visionaries who wished to create a better Ireland for all. Many of the projects featuring at Fís 16 take the theme of ‘Independence’ as their inspiration with many projects aimed at supporting and informing different groups in our society. Our students represent this next generation of extraordinary individuals and we look forward to following their future achievements. The success of an event such as this depends on the dedication and commitment of our students and staff and I thank them for their preparation for this event. Dr Adèle Commins Head of Department of Creative Arts, Media and Music Ceannasaí Roinn na nEalaíon Cruthaitheach, Meán agus Ceoil BA in Communications in Creative Multimedia Charlotte Charlotte, the main character in a rich and immersive motion comic animation, is a face in the crowd during the French Revolution. We join Charlotte on her quest for independence, and watch as her story unfolds against the backdrop of some of the key events of the revolution. Eco-Town Eco-Town is an e-learning experience for young children. The project aims to teach kids how to be environmentally independent of fossil fuels through the use of renewable energy. The project presents an innovative fusion of gameplay and e-learning, and is intended for use in the primary school classroom. LGBTv LGBTv is driven by voice activation and allows users to participate in a virtual Q&A with members of the LGBTQ community. The aim of the project is to increase awareness and understanding of the social and legal changes and challenges affecting this community through a series of personal stories. Limitless Limitless is an immersive multimedia experience aimed at people of all ages who find themselves stuck in a situation in their lives and may need some encouragement to change. The project uses a mix of audio and visual elements coupled with a series of physical exercises. Remind Me Remind Me aims to show how multimedia can help raise awareness around Alzheimer’s Disease. It features a documentary, a website featuring an interactive game and two ‘abstract’ rooms where the viewer will experience what someone with Alzheimer’s disease may be thinking, and much more! S.E.E. S.E.E (Stop Economic Exploitation) is an immersive audio visual exhibit which explores the role money plays in the creation of social, economic and environmental issues. The exhibit presents key sources and information that indicate that the process in which money is created and distributed is inherently flawed and counterproductive to society. Saoirse na hÉireann Saoirse na hÉireann is based on the 1916 Rising. It follows four key figures through some of the significant areas in Dublin where fighting went on. Through the use of an interactive table and using animation and audio, users will be given information on this event from each character. The project is aimed at secondary school students. Spark of Courage Spark of Courage is an interactive story installation where users will have the opportunity to experience the 1916 Easter Rising from the point of view of Joseph Mary Plunkett, a key figure from the time. The project is aimed at 12-13 year olds. Calm CALM is a free smartphone app designed for individuals struggling with anxiety attacks and panic attacks. CALM is specifically created to enable suffering individuals to claim back their independence and reduce their fear. BA (Hons) in Video and Film Production ‘Sic’ Sic is a satirical snapshot of film school seen through the eyes of disenchanted protagonist and former optimist Conor. Soured by the endless constraints he is subject to - and realising he is powerless against them - Conor tries to make the best out of a bad situation by commentating on his experiences both good and bad. Only When It’s Dark In the midst of a dark, deep forest; a shadowy figure drags and buries a body in a shallow grave. Sometime later, Detectives David Murphy and James MacNamara arrive at the crime scene and begin their investigation into this disturbing murder. ‘Only When It’s Dark’ challenges the television landscape by having an LGBT character as one of its leads. Iniquity This project as a whole focuses on female protagonists in Irish horror films and on how they often represent historical and national trauma. The film draws on a systematic analysis of a range of contemporary Irish horror films to present a story where the trauma of the Irish Civil War bleeds into the lives of the contemporary protagonists. BA in Video & Film Production Strawberry Stephen is a gormless man in his early 20’s. He reluctantly has to work at the family strawberry stall for the day. Things do not go as he expected. Get Up ‘Will Zoe accept the effort of her friends to understand her depression?’ Zoe’s friends find her motionless on the apartment floor. They are worried and unsure of what to do. How will they come together and reconnect with her? The Script ‘A young homeless man gets the opportunity to change his life and gain redemption.’ Eric, a newly homeless man, stumbles across an opportunity. It is inside a satchel in the hands of a dead man. With the help of Elvis, his street friend, Eric creates a new path for himself. Somnium Aisling gets caught up in a battle between her body and her mind in an effort to complete her student thesis. Aisling is an exhausted college psychology student with an impeding thesis deadline looming. After pulling a week of all-nighters in an effort to complete her studies, Aisling’s sanity begins to slip. Before I Go “Home is where your partner is.” “Before I Go” tells the story of lovers Ian and Alfie, who have been torn apart by death, and their journey in letting go. Certificate in 2D & 3D Digital Animation Production Never Trust the DM Based on a role playing narrative these characters prance and pose for the DM before the roll of the dice. Not So Different After All ‘Not So Different After All’ tells the story of Timmy a young boy who conceals his difference under a bandana. A fall reveals his difference - however his friends accept him as he is. Hanging About A castaway on a desert island sees a treasure chest guarded by killer sharks bobbing on the rocks. Can (s)he find out what is in the chest? Adventure Boy This madcap story begins with a call from the Mayor’s office. Bad Man has taken over the puppy orphanage. Can Adventure Boy save the day? Certificate in 3D for Games Broken In a world ripped apart by nuclear torment a lone robot M1KE seeks to build a society from the remains of the old world. Can you help him to create the key to salvation in this unique puzzle style game?
