IVI’s Approach to Education

Education Approach - IVI’s Education Model is based on proven approaches to adult education and continuous

professional development - Courseware aligns with Blooms Taxonomy of Educational Objectives - Uses Three-Phase Design (3PD) Constructivist adult education instructional method - Assessment-based certification aligns with Level 2 & 3 of Kirkpatrick’s Four-Level Model

Goals of the Education Programme - Disseminate information and knowledge about the IT-CMF to users - Raise awareness of the IT-CMF framework among CIOs, IT managers, and IT

practitioners, and organisations who wish leverage the business value of Information & Communications Technology

- Build and enhance knowledge, skills, and expertise of professionals who wish to implement IT-CMF in their organisation

IVI 5-Tier Training Model

IVI’s Education Model is constructed across five ‘tiers’ of increasingly sophisticated learning. - The model is built upon a well-established

learning hierarchy. - Using this approach, each training tier

builds upon knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired at a lower tier of the model, beginning with simple information transfer, and progressing through skills- and ability-building, as well as the application of skills in real-life situations.

- The five tiers of training comprise a continuing process of learning for the trainee, rather than merely being a series of training interventions.

IVI Education Delivery (2011-2013)

- Classroom training the primary training delivery channel - Classes are typically multiple-day sessions

- However training can be perceived as “…as a necessary drain on the organization" (Gartner, 2010)

"Incredibly valuable… and my only regret is not

bringing colleagues and peers with me"

CEO, US SME

"We came in with a certain view. The course opened up windows of opportunities for us that are

certainly a nice surprise!" Snr. Manager, 'Big 4'

Consultancy

"The 3-day course is very well structured and

professionally delivered. It totally met our expectations."

CIO, Irish Pharma Co.

"This is an eye opener course to strengthen our approach towards our customers to derive more downstream

business." Snr. Consultant, US

Consultancy

"Great training experience. One of the very few trainings from which I got more than I

expected." Programme Manager, ICT

Changing the Channel

Current Model - The instructor is seen as the ‘font of all

knowledge’ - The classroom is seen as the place

where knowledge dissemination happens - The course is perceived as the preferred

format for learning

New Model - The learner is viewed as a Knowledge

Seeker, with changing learning needs and timeframes

- Offline AND online services enable greater access to the total set of knowledge & performance resources

Benefits of a multi-channel delivery modality

- Phillips’ Model: measures financial benefits of training: (total benefit - total costs) = $____ X 100 = ROI total costs

- Other Types of Value - Reduced Travel - Increased Reach Across Time and Space - Accuracy of Materials - Timeliness - Volume of Deployment - Increased Productivity - Reduced Labour Costs - Better Management - Appropriate Material Usage

- Also, consider the cost / impact of NOT training

IVI Education Goals - Summary

People want to perform well (usually!) - Why don't they do what they're supposed to do?

- They don't know what they're supposed to do - They don't know why they should do it - They don't know how to do it

- IT-CMF Certified Training can make your talent more talented - A holistic approach to training & development helps people

perform, and supports organisational development & transformation

- We plan to embed learning not just into workplace… …but into work itself
