No.DE·13G-201t-ln exercise of the powers conferred by Sec/iOh 2Dof the DenUsts Act, 1948, the Dental Council of India after.consultation with the State Government as prescribed in clause (g) & (h) of Sub Section 2 OfSection 20 of the Dchtists Act, 1948. and withthe previous sanction' of the Central GOverhrnenl,. hereby makes' the, following Amendments to the existing Revised 80S CourseRegulations 2007, published in Part III, Section 4 of The Gazette of India, Extraordinary. dated1Q11September 2007. '

1. Short'tltle and commencement.- .(i) These Regulations may be called theDenta/ Council of India Revised 8DS ..course (3rd Amendmenl) Regulations.

2011.(ii) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazelle. .

Provided that the Affiliating .university/State GOvernment are free' to make applicable these amendmenteven to its sludents who would P\lrsuetheir 411 year.BDS Course dUring the acildemic session 2011-12 onwards. Iiis upto the University to implement this amendrnenfprovided it abid~ by their ActlRules and RegUlations.

2. The existing Revised 80S Course Regulations 2007 be substituled to the extent indicated hereunder:-(i) Duration of the Course: "

The existing provision .be substituted with the following:-The undergraduate dE!nta/programme leading to 80S Degree shall be of 4 (four)

academic years.' with 240 teaching days in .~ academic year, pjQ$ one year paid rolating'"'internship in a dental college. Every candidate will be required. ~ft~14jdSSingthe final 80S

, ExamlnatiOl;l;Jo undergo one year paidrotaUng intemship in a dental college. The detailedcurriculumot.Denta/ln~ship ProgrCilmmeis annexed as Annexure-A.The intemsbipshall be 'compulsory and SDSDegree shall be granted after completion of oneyear paid Int~m~hip. " .NOTE: ~ 'It ~mendf:ldby the DCI thaUhe,coIleges who ha~implemented the revised80S Course Regulation. 2007,ln 2097 itself, has to carryon with the existing five yearprogramme. Regarding internship for this batch it is uplo ,the respeCtive university to decide.Further, theadmi~sions made Jromthe year 2008-09, thestudeRtsmay be included in thilt~amend~tprovided the concerned University's rulesperrnit.,

(ii) EXAMINATIONS:~

After $/. NO.5 of the subject. Pre.clinical PrOsthodontics. the following be added:-Any candidate' who ,fails in on •• ubjectin an Examjnatioh is permitted to go to the next high~rclass and appealS for the said faDBd subject, and •cpmplete it successfully before he ISpermitted to appear for the next higher examination. However, t~ Dental Council of Indiawoald have, no ob}ection,ifthe concerned University follows their examination schemeprovided in theiistatufelregulBtions. .

After SI. No.3 of the s!Jbject.Oral PathologyandOra/ Microbiology, the following be added:-Any candidate Who fails In on•• ubjeCt in an Examination is permitted to go to the next higherclass and appear forthesubj6Ct and complete it successfully before he !s permittBd to appaarfor the next higher examination. However, thf! Dental Councilof India would have ndobjection, if the concerned University follows thf1ir examination scheme (~ year onwards)provided in their statuf~u/ations. 1

T.he$cheme ..of Examination fOr·80S Course shall .be divided into 151 80S examination at the endof theflrst academic~year,2¥BDS examination althe end of second year, 3m 80S examination atthe end of third, 4111 and final 80S at the.end of 4111 year. Where semester system exists, there shallbe two examinations in the final· year, designated as part 1 and part 2 of the respectiveexaminations (regulations 1983).240 days minimumteachlrig irreaclracademic year is mandatory.

For University opting for.semester mode,thesubjects that ate to be covered in each semesterproposed below.

'The Interns should participate in various institutional and fieJdprogrammes and begiven due responsibility topedormtheactivities in all departmentsof the Dental Colleges and associated Institutions.2, To facilitate achievement of basic skills and altitudes the, following facilities should be provided to all dentalgraduates: '

i) History taking, examination,dlagnosis, charting and recording treatment plan of cases,ii) Presentation of cases in a group of Seminar,iii) Careandsteriliiation of Instrumentsused.iv) Performancund intelJ,lfetationof eSll.entiallaboratorytests and other relevant investigations.v) Data Cinalysisand inference. .vi) Proper use of antibiotics. anti-inflammatoryand otherdrugs,as well as other thereapeutive modalities.vii) Education ofpatients,theirreiatives and community"on all aspects oLdantal health car while working in

The supervisors should seding it that properfacilitiesare provided in all departments and attachlild institutions for theirpenorinance.
