1 Introduction

2 Before You Start
2.1 Inserting a SIM card
Before starting hardware installation, insert a GPRS
enabled SIM card first. If it is done by the supplier, skip
this chapter.
1) Inserting the SIM card
a) Disconnect the unit from electrical supply.
b) Make sure that the SIM PIN number is
disabled. This is most easily done using a mobile
phone.
c) Insert the SIM card as shown below

2.2 Connecting GPS/GSM Antenna
If it is done by your supplier, skip this chapter.
1) Connecting GPS/GSM Antenna
a) Disconnect power supply of the unit.
b) Connect antenna as shown below

3 Connecting the unit
3.1 Connecting Power
The unit operates on +9V to +30V DC. The Red wire is
connected to the Positive battery terminal and the Black
wire is connected to the Negative battery terminal.

3.2 Connecting Ignition wire
Connect Orange wire to the Ignition output signal.
Ignition signal: +12V/+24V when the engine is ON 0V when the engine is OFF
3.3 LED's Indications
The AVL-200 comes with five LED indicators on its
Keypad panel (shown on next page).
1. PWR (red) – Power statusConstant on when battery voltage is OK
2. GPS (blue) – GPS statusFlashes when GPS is synced.Off when GPS is not synced
3. GSM (yellow) – GSM statusFlashes twice in a second when not connected to GSM network.Flashes once in a second when connected to GSM network.
4. GPRS (yellow) – GPRS statusFlashes twice in a second when not connected to GSM network. Flashes once in a second when connected to GSM network.
5. CPU (green) – CPU statusFlashes slowly to indicate CPU OK
3.4 Keypad Functions
AVL-200 Keypad as shown below has following key
functionalities:

1. CONN: To accept any incoming voice call.
2. DISCONN: To disconnect any voice call.
3. DIAL1: To make a voice call to a number configured
as DIAL1
(For more information see configuration section)
4. DIAL2: To make a voice call to a number configured
as DIAL2
(For more information see configuration section)
5. The remaining 6 keys are used to transmit a
predefined message to the server. The messages
defined with the keys are as follows:
5.1 REACH. DEST: DESTINATION REACHED
5.2 BRKDN: BREAK DOWN
5.3 UNLOAD: UNLOADING COMPLETED
5.4 LOAD: LOADING COMPLETED
5.5 BLOCK: ROAD BLOCKED
5.6 SOS: SOS/DISTRESS
4. RS-232 Connector

A 9 Pin DSUB Connector is used as a debug port or
configuration port. The Port is asynchronous serial port
with 115200 baud rate.
CONFIGURATION OF AVL-200
To Use the G_CTU for AVL-200 configuration, first make connection between laptop and AVL-200 device as shown in picture below. Connect Rs-232 connector of AVL-200 device with the DB-9 connector of laptop.

After Making Connection, Insert the CD (provided along with Unit) in CD-Rom. Find G_CTU.exe in Device Setting Folder.

Step1: Start application G_CTU.exe. by double click on it.
Step2: A window appears for comm. port setting shown below.

Step3: Select free comm. port available on laptop in comm. port combo box as shown in picture
below.

Step4: Do not change other settings. Keep them default. Bits per Second: 115200 Data Bits : 8 Parity : None Stop Bits : 1 Flow Control : None
Step5: Select the desired comm. port and click on Apply button. The following screen will appear.

Step6: Power on the AVL-200 unit. Now the unit is ready for configuration settings.

5. Configuration for GPRS Mode
A. IP Address (IP)*: For setting IP address of server, the procedure is as described below. Maximum length of IP address is 15
characters including dot (.) mark.
Step1: Select IP from Packet ID combo box.
Step2: Select Set Option. A new text box will appear.
Give the required IP address in that text box.
Step3: Click on ENTER button. See Fig (2.5).

B. Port Number*: For setting port number of server application. The range of
port address is 1 to 32767. (Default port number is 1020)
Step1: Select PORT from Packet ID combo box.
Step2: Select Set Option. A new textbox will appear.
Enter the required PORT address value in that text
box. Step3: Click on ENTER button. See Fig (2.6).

C. APN Context (APN)*: 12

For configuring APN context string for GPRS mode
of communication.
Step1: Select APN from Packet ID combo box as in
Fig (2.7)
Step2: Select Set option. A new combo box will
appear. Select IDEA or AIRTEL or HUTCH
(Service provider for the SIM card, inserted
in the unit).
Step3: Click on ENTER button. See Fig 2.7

6. Other Settings
A. Periodic Position Interval (PPI):
For PPI setting following steps are required.
Step1: Select PPI from Packet Id combo
box as in Fig (2.8)
Step2: Select Set option. A new textbox will appear.
Enter the required PPI value in that text box.
Step3: Click on ENTER button. See Fig (2.8).

For GSM Mode interval range is 10 seconds to 10 Hr
For GPRS Mode interval range is 1 seconds to 10 Hr

B. DIAL Number (DIAL1, DIAL2):
Two phone nos. DIAL1 and DIAL2 can be set to
establish an emergency call. The DIAL1 and DIAL2 keys of
the keypad can be configured to make call to an allotted
phone number to the key.
For setting DIAL number configuration follow the steps.
Step1: Select DIAL1/DIAL2 from Packet Id combo box
as shown in Fig (2.9)
Step2: Select Set option. A new textbox will appear.
Enter the phone number to be allotted to the key.
Step3: click on ENTER button. See Fig (2.9).

Enable/disable DIAL Status: Default status is 1 (Enable).
Step1: Click on Status check box.
Step2: Click Disable/Enable from Set combo box.
Step3: Click on ENTER button. See Fig (2.10)

C. Incoming Number List (INL):
List of maximum five incoming phone nos. can be defined.
For setting incoming number configuration, follow the
steps below.
Step1: Select INL from Packet Id combo box. As in
Fig (2.11)
Step2: Select Set option. A new textbox will appear.
Enter five (or less) phone numbers separated by a
comma in following format and click ENTER
button.
+911203914894, +919818184174,
+919818184175. Like this, five numbers can be
added. See Fig (2.11).

Enable/disable INL Status: Default status is 1 (Enable).

For Enable/Disable INL status please refers to
Enable/Disable DIAL status section. But select INL in
Packet Id combo box.
