Aviation Academy is a unique program developed by District 214 and launching in the 2018-19 school year. It was developed due to the strong demand for highly qualified aviation professionals and the numerous regional opportunities for careers in the aviation industry. At EAA AirVenture in July 2017, Boeing predicted consistently strong demand for aviation industry jobs for the next 20 years “with no signs of it slowing down.” The Boeing Global Services report* showed a need for 637,000 commercial aircraft pilots; 648,000 technicians; and 839,000 cabin crew members. As part of their participation in District 214’s aviation pathway, students will receive a sequence of aviation- specific coursework, dual credit opportunities and external internship experiences. District 214 will be partnering with Lewis University to offer dual credit courses which will allow students to earn both high school and college credit and begin their pathway to certification and a future career in the aviation industry. Students can earn certifications in as little as 12 to 18 months and earn an average starting salary of $60,000. Aviation Academy is a unique program developed by District 214 and launching in the 2018-19 school year. It was developed due to the strong demand for highly qualified aviation professionals and the numerous regional opportunities for careers in the aviation industry.

At EAA AirVenture in July 2017, Boeing predicted consistently strong demand for aviation industry jobs for the next 20 years “with no signs of it slowing down.”
