AutomaxActuators for general service and specialapplications:Automax offers a broad range of rack & pinion, Scotch-yokeand electric actuators for mounting on dampers and quarter-turn ball, plug and butterfly valves and a choice of valveautomation accessories (see opposite).

The SuperNova rack & pinion actuator produces up to 3000 Nmoutput torque while the Scotch yoke heavy duty actuator generates up to 55000 Nm. Both are available in double actingand spring return versions. The SuperNova is also available in180° configuration for 3-way ball and plug valve applications as well as SST construction for harsh, corrosive environments.

Automax electric actuators are capable of handling the torquerequirements of most general service applications, and areavailable with a wide range of on/off, modulating, and Fieldbusapplications.

Applications and Options:

Automax has a proven track record of providing solutions to non-standard applications. For example with fire protectionpackages which are treated with a specially developed intumescent, chemically-inert coating that protects the actuator and its controls in 1100°C fires for 30 minutes.

Automax also has vast experience of providing solutions forquick acting actuator applications, including hydraulic proportionalvalve systems for geothermal steam applications/power generation. Remote operating installations are ideal for hydrauliccontrol systems where electric actuators simply cannot meetquick fail stroke requirements. Other quick acting solutionsinclude heavy duty actuators with shock absorbers for highcycle service and 30" butterfly valve packages (where the valvecan be required to close in under 2 seconds) in applicationsranging from acetylene ESD valve applications to explosion suppression systems at army weapons depots.

A particularly specialized application has been for adjustable(telescopic) stainless steel extensions with double universaljoints to enable remote operation of valves from outside containment vessels.

Positioners: APEX positioners provide accurate valve positioning withadvanced features and are available with many optionsincluding; limit switches, position feedback transmitter, speed controls, and visual position indicators. They may be used with 3-15psi control signals, or fitted with optionalcurrent-to-pressure transducers for 4-20mA signal input. The positioner features an optional non-metallic housing forsuperior corrosion resistance. All exposed components areeither high strength engineered resin or stainless steel.

NAMUR Module Options: Several modular positioning systems are available. Automaxpositioners and limit switches provide complete valveautomation control and are available in a wide range including explosion proof and sanitary applications.

Switch Boxes and Feedback Devices:A compact and economical package for both visualand remote electrical indication of valve position.Models are available in both die cast aluminium andengineered resin versions in accordance with bothEuropean and USA standards.

Digital Valve Controllers: The Automax BUSwitch Valve Control and MonitoringSystem enables control and monitoring of automatedon/off quarter-turn valves through AS-i, DeviceNet,PROFIBUS DP, and FOUNDATION Fieldbus technology.The internal pilot solenoid coil offers the advantage ofhaving the solenoid coil contained and protectedwithin the BUSwitch housing. This provides a highdegree of protection in hazardous environments andwashdowns.

NorbroPneumatic Actuators: Since the mid-Sixties, high performance, reliability, ease ofmaintenance and operational safety have established Norbroas one of the world's leading manufacturers of pneumaticand electric actuators. As proof of this, Norbro pneumaticactuators can be found in a range of applications as diverseas the petrochemical industry, food & beverage, steel production, pharmaceuticals and plastics manufacturing.

Twelve sizes of the Norbro 40R double acting (see 1 above)or spring return pneumatic actuator provide a torque range of 11 to 4617 Nm, enabling efficient and economical torquematching while the 40R's unique design concept allows simple attachment of various ancillaries to match customerrequirements.

Electric Actuators: Norbro's Series 75 range of single-phase electric actuatorshas been designed to provide positive, automatic operation of valves and other devices requiring between 20º and 330ºrotation, with torque outputs up to 280Nm.

Simplicity of design, ease of assembly and rugged constructionusing lightweight materials allow the actuator to be fitted inalmost any modern process system or environment. Theactuator's base and cover is finished in a baked epoxy paintfor corrosion resistance and the permanently lubricated geartrain provides long life and lower maintenance costs.

With 120 / 240V AC or 12 / 24V DC voltage options, the Series75 is rated to BS EN 60529: 1992 IP66 and is watertight toNEMA IV.

A wide range of ancilliary equipment can be fitted to meet the mostexacting customer requirements.

LimitorqueActuators: Automating industrial valves can increase safety, raise productivity, and reduce operating costs and Limitorque help to make valve control easier in ways as diverse as the applications in which they are used. Whether the need is for actuation with the strength to handle a half-million foot-pounds of thrust, or a sophisticated control network to precisely orchestrate hundreds of valves, Limitorque products will make the task easier.

The Accutronix MX, SMB and L120 electric actuators directlymount on to valves to produce multi-turn actuation whilecombinations of actuators and B320 gearboxes serve toincrease torque output. Limitorque's LY series of actuatorsprovide quarter turn valve and damper operation in a compact, lightweight and easy-to-mount unit.

The next generation of Master Station is a plug and play solution, providing complex control and diagnostics ofLimitorque field units through a simple touch panel operatorinterface. This is used to monitor and control network systems of up to 250 MOV's. The DCS interface is through a Modbus® serial link or an TCP/IP connection.

The Modbus® open architecture also allows Direct-to-Hostconnection for affordable smaller networks and this givesdirect connection to your DCS or PLC system.

Other network protocols supported with the Accutronix MXrange of actuators include PROFIBUS DP-V1 & PROFIBUS PA(we are the only electric actuator manufacturer to offer bothPROFIBUS options), FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 and DeviceNet.
