Polyester film is tougher and more durable than polycarbonate and PVC films. It offers enhanced chemical resistance and dramatically improved flex life. The Autoflex range of hard coated polyester films extends the functionality of polyester film into areas demanding high abrasion resistance together with excellent receptivity to graphic inks and selective textures. Autoflex EB has been developed for applications requiring a combination of high abrasion resistance and flexibility, such as embossed membrane switches and optical displays, e.g. touch screens.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Autoflex EB is a high quality, embossable, hard coated polyester film, consisting of a base polyester and an embossable, texturable, chemically bonded UV-cured hard surface coating. It is available in sheets and rolls, print receptive side cling film laminated as standard.

Product range: Autoflex EB Gloss G130, G180, G250 Gloss finish 130, 180, 250 micron

Autoflex EB Antiglare A130, A180, A250 Antiglare finish 130, 180, 250 micron

Primer: Autoflex EB has an ink adhesion primer on the second surface. This primer confers excellent adhesion to a wide range of solvent based graphic inks. The primer is not recommended for use with UV-cured graphic inks or a combination of solvent and UV graphic inks because the adhesion performance will be inconsistent. A special primer is available for use with UV inks, please see Autoflex EB (7 Series) Product Data Sheet.

Laminate: Polyester films with high gloss surfaces are prone to blocking when stored with the film surfaces touching each other. Blocking is the term given when two surfaces adhere or merge into each other and when separated leave un-removable marks on the film. For this reason MacDermid Autotype supply the Autoflex film range with a protective laminate and recommend that the laminate remains in place until the first print pass.

Textures: Autoflex EB can be screen printed with Fototex to obtain selective textures (see Fototex product data sheet).

Outdoor use: In common with most other plastics, Autoflex EB has limited long term resistance to UV light and therefore is not recommended for long term use outdoors. MacDermid Autotype has

Autotex AM Product data sheet

Autotex AM is a high quality, textured polyester film offering Microban® antimicrobial protection on the textured hard coat.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Microban® technology is incorporated into the Autotex textured hard coat during the manufacturing process. This process ensures even distribution of the antimicrobial agent throughout the textured hard coat and the film surface. When bacteria come into contact with Autotex AM with Microban®, the antimicrobial function disrupts the bacterial cell wall killing or inhibiting bacterial growth. The result is that the film surface of Autotex AM provides dependable and constant protection against bacterial contamination.

Product range: Autotex AM F157, F207Fine texture 150 and 200 micron

Primer: Autotex AM with Microban® has an ink adhesion primer on the second surface. This primer confers excellent adhesion to a wide range of solvent based and UV graphic inks.

Windows: Autotex AM can be screen printed with Windotex* to obtain a clear window (see Windotex Product Data Sheet). *NB: Windotex does not offer any antimicrobial protection

Process conditions for each sample1 Unprocessed Samples: Film samples were tested straight from the pack.

2 Film samples were subjected to the following tests to simulate graphics printing:

10 Jet dryer passes (80°C x 2 mins) 10 Fusion UV passes (500MJ/pass) 5 passes under IR lamps 1 Fusion UV pass (500MJ/pass) - (hard coat surface)

3 Film samples were vigorously sandpapered until the texture peaks were removed. The film surface was then

polished with wire wool until smooth. This was carried out to simulate extreme surface wear. 4 Film samples were stretched by 20% in both MD/TD direction. This simulates the process of embossing. (An

embossed sample cannot be AM tested as a flat surface is required by I an Independent Test House). 5 Film samples are tested by an Independent Test House using standard test protocols that simulate real life

cleaning regimes representing a period of 15 years. Test Method and certificate available on request. 6 Film samples were soaked for 24 hours before being subjected to antimicrobial testing.

7 Test Method available on request.

Autotex XE Product Data Sheet

Autotex XE has been developed for applications where high or widely fluctuating temperatures, excessive humidity and strong levels of ultraviolet light are encountered and is ideal for both flat and tactile membrane switches and keyboards.

XE stands for Extreme Environment and typical applications for the material are as a substrate for instrument, fascia and membrane switch panels that are used in outdoor or harsh industrial conditions.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Autotex XE is a polyester based film, with specially constructed hardcoat and primer layers. Unlike conventional films, however, that can delaminate, become brittle or flake under extreme conditions; the various layers in Autotex XE are formulated to resist ultraviolet light, moisture and wide variations in temperature. Conventional films without the special MacDermid Autotype UV resistance go brittle and yellow very quickly when subjected to UV light.

Product range: Autotex XE Velvet Velvet texture V150, V200 150 and 200 micron V157, V207

Autotex XE Fine Fine texture F150, F200 150 and 200 micron F207

Primer: Autotex XE (V150, V200, F150, F200) Autotex XE has the same ink adhesion primer on the reverse surface as Autotex. This primer confers excellent adhesion to a wide range of solvent based graphic inks. The primer is not recommended for use with UV cured graphic inks or a combination of solvent and UV graphic inks because the adhesion performance will be inconsistent.

Autotex XE (7 Series) (V157, V207, F157, F207) The primer on Autotex XE (7 Series) offers excellent adhesion to a wide range of solvent inks and improved adhesion to UV graphic inks. We recommend that you carry out your own full printing trials and in-house evaluation.

Please note that some of the electrical and mechanical properties of the 7 Series films differ from the standard product. Please refer to the Autotex (7 Series) product data sheet.

All testing is performed on a flat panel with a total spacer thickness of 200µ and a spacer hole diameter of 13mm.

Depending on the nature of the emboss and the level of exposure to sunlight, switch life is likely to be reduced compared to an un-embossed overlay due to the increased stresses experienced during actuation.

Although conclusions may be drawn it is important to note that any accelerated ageing technique is unique and cannot be related directly to real time performance.

The use of Windotex on Autotex XE is not recommended as it will yellow and embrittle when exposed to sunlight. Due to the stabilising chemistry used in Autotex XE the adhesion of Windotex to the surface may be impaired. Contact MacDermid Autotype for further information.

AutotexProduct data sheet

Polyester film is tougher and more durable than polycarbonate and PVC film. It offers enhanced chemical resistance and dramatically improved flex life. The Autotex range of textured polyester films extends the functionality of polyester film into areas demanding high abrasion resistance together with excellent receptivity to graphic inks and windowing lacquers. Autotex has been developed for applications requiring a combination of high abrasion resistance and flexibility, such as embossed membrane switches.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Autotex is a high quality textured polyester film, consisting of a base polyester and a flexible chemically bonded, UV-cured textured coating. It is available in sheets and rolls.

Product range: Autotex Fine F150, F200, F280Fine texture 150,200, 280 micron

Autotex Velvet V150, V200, V280 Velvet texture 150, 200, 280 micron

Primer: Autotex has an ink adhesion primer on the second surface. This primer confers excellent adhesion to a wide range of solvent based graphic inks. The primer is not recommended for use with UV-cured graphic inks or a combination of solvent and UV graphic inks because the adhesion performance will be inconsistent. A special primer is available for use with UV inks, please see Autotex (7 Series) Product Data Sheet.

Windows: Autotex can be screen printed with Windotex to obtain a clear window (see Windotex product data sheet). Autotex Fine, because of its lighter texture, will produce clearer windows than Autotex Velvet.

Outdoor use: In common with most other plastics, Autotex has limited long term resistance to UV light and therefore is not recommended for long term use outdoors. In order to overcome this issue, MacDermid Autotype has specially developed Autotex XE, a UV resistant version of Autotex. Please see Autotex XE Product Data Sheet.

PRODUCT APPLICATIONS Autotex is used as a substrate in the following applications: Membrane switch overlays Fascia panels Nameplates Labels/Product marking
