Make A Stand Weekend – Aug 31-Sept 1

During Labor Day weekend, we are going to make a stand against human trafficking. While thousands of people are in downtown Troy for the Mumford & Sons festival, the World Race for Hope and Free To Run Foundation will hold an awareness event and kick-off the 2013-2014 campaign. Registration will be open for the New Year's Day 5k race and virtual race, with a special incentive for registering during that weekend. We are also bringing to Troy the 9 year old founder of Make A Stand Lemon-Aid, Vivienne Harr. In just over a year, Vivienne's lemon-aid stand has raised over $1 million to fight slavery, and now the bottled lemon-aid is available in many stores on the West Coast. She will be setting up her stand in the First Place parking lot all day Saturday. On Sunday afternoon, Sept 1, in First Place, we are hosting an Afternoon for Abolition. Vivienne will be back, along with some other special guests, including a music performance by Columbus-based musician Heather Evans. Heather's Sweet Princess Project has been featured in local media, and was recently promoted by CNN Freedom Project. We will be sharing more details about each day's events as we get closer to Labor Day weekend. In the meantime, save the dates, and get ready to Make a Stand!

ALPHA – Fall Session The next ALPHA Course begins on Wed, Sept 4. ALPHA is a course designed for people to ask questions (any questions)! Questions about life, faith, happiness, problems…We will meet every Wed 6-8pm for 12 weeks (Sept 4- Nov 20) at First Place Christian Center. A one day retreat will be held on Sat, Oct 19 from 8:30am–5pm. Breakfast & lunch will be provided.

Childcare will be provided during all ALPHA meetings.

To register, sign up in the Gathering Room or at the Information Center at First Place or call the church office, 335-2826. Invite a friend–come with them! If you have any questions, feel free to contact: Matthew & Mary Jane Johns, Bob & Gloria Parker, or Pastor Dave Leckrone.
