From the Principal

Welcome back to all school community members. May I extend a special welcome to our new students and their families. I trust that all students, staff and family members are refreshed and ready for a busy and exciting Term Three. This term hosts many activities including upcoming Zone and Regional Track and Field, Wakakirri performance, Chess Tournaments, Bush Dance and more. I look forward to the many and varied performances of our students. Staffing There are many staffing changes to commence Term Three due to a range of reasons including Long Service Leave, injury and illness. Mr Adam Jones will be replacing Mr Parker on Year 5/6 for all of Semester Two whilst Mr Parker is on Long Service Leave.

From the Principal Mr Coman is also on Long Service Leave for Semester Two and is being replaced by two staff, Miss Jessica McGill and Mr Geoff Butler. Miss McGill will work in the Library on Monday, Thursday and Friday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Miss McGill will be based at Fernvale and employed as a Local Relief Teacher by the Department. Mr Butler will work on a Tuesday and Wednesday only and primarily take all the Year 3-6 Weekly chess classes. We are particularly pleased and excited to be able to gain the services of Mr Butler to help continue a chess program in our school. Mr Butler is not just a registered teacher but also a leading Australian chess player and much sought after leading chess coach in Queensland.

Mrs Amanda Johnson sadly sustained a serious knee injury requiring surgery over the holiday period and will require some time off. At this point she may return in week two. This will be confirmed later in the week pending medical advice. We wish Mrs Johnson a very speedy and healthy recovery. Mrs Levitt (experienced Prep) has kindly agreed to work the first week in place of Mrs Johnson. Thankyou Mrs Levitt! Mrs Usher will also be on sick leave for most of the Term due to a medical condition. Mrs Proos will continue to work her normal three days and a teacher replacement Mrs Angela Leader will most likely work the Thursday and Friday. This will be confirmed after an interview with Mrs Leader tomorrow afternoon. Ms Lauren Whyte is absent this week. Her teaching partner Miss Rebecca Johnson will be replacing Ms Whyte for the majority of her absence this week. Thank you Miss Johnson. May I extend a special welcome to all our new staff and trust that the school community will warmly welcome these new members to our school family. Chess News As mentioned above the school has engaged Mr Butler to work on the days that Mr Coman would have taught chess in the weekly classroom program and also Tuesday afterschool Chess Club. Mr Butler is extremely keen to build on and enhance our after school Chess Program. More exciting information and news will be forthcoming on the After School Chess club for a small weekly fee and possible change in time and format to try and engage more students and community members. Watch this space!

From the Principal P&C Meeting The general monthly meeting will be held tonight (16 July). School community members are welcome to attend. Meeting commences at 7:30pm in the Administration block. John Fleming Explicit Instruction This Thursday our school consultant John Fleming will visit and work with Staff on our Explicit Instruction improvement agenda. Mr Fleming is a leading National authority on Explicit Instruction and we welcome his continued support of our school. Lockyer Zone Track and Field I would like to wish all our students competing this Friday all the very best. Our school is providing the highest number of competitors across all the Zone as they challenge for a spot to compete at the new Western Ranges trial. May I inform all students and parents that if you are selected to compete at the Western Ranges trial this event will be held at the UQ Athletics Centre at St Lucia in Brisbane. Wakakirri Our Wakakirri performance is quickly approaching. Well done to all staff, students and family members who have worked tirelessly on this performance to date. This is a true school community effort. Well done to all! Kind Regards David

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) on School Students with Disability (the national

data collection) is an annual collection that counts the number of school students with disability and the

level of reasonable educational adjustment they are provided with. The definition of disability for the

natation data collection is based on the broad definition under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

For the purposes of the national data collection, students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia or

auditory processing disorder as well as chronic health conditions like epilepsy, diabetes or asthma, that

require active monitoring by the school, may be included.

Teachers and school staff will identify the number of students with disability at our school and the level

of reasonable adjustment they are provided.

Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is essential. Personal details

such as student names or other identifying information will not be provided to local or federal education

authorities. If you do not wish for your child to be counted in this data collection, please notify the

school by Monday, 30 July 2018.

Please contact the school if you have further questions about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data

on School Students with Disability and how it may involve your child.
