TECHNOLOGY: Mrs Zeritis
Year 6 students were so excited to be working in the Woodwork room this week!
Their eyes stared excitedly at the pieces of machinery around the room.
Some girls were a little apprehensive about using the scroll saws but when I
reassured then that I hadn’t lost any fingers over my 36 years of teaching,
they smiled and were relieved.
The task for the girls this week was to design and make a key ring, which they
could later attach to their school bag as identification. The lesson began with
some basic safety reminders and then it was on to using the scroll saws. The
girls showed competence and concentration and worked with confidence
once they knew that there were safety guards attached to each of the scroll
saws.
Once the wood was shaped, it was time to introduce the electric disc sander
to the` girls. They used this tool equally well and by the conclusion of the
lesson they were ready to begin their decoration of their key rings.
ENGLISH: Mr Morgan And so, after eight glorious weeks sailing upon the stormy seas of imagination and exploring new
narrative terrain we have reached the end of our creative quest. Having unearthed a multitude of
magnificent treasures that will surely serve to enrich and enliven our stories for many years to
come, we must now bid our fellow adventurers a fond farewell as we each bravely forge ahead on
our own individual narrative journeys. Although we may never be quite sure of where these
stories will lead us or what forms they will take, what has become clear is that each member of
our fearless crew possesses the adventurer's will, the bard's turn of phrase, the cartographer's skill
and the artist's keen gaze that will illuminate the darkness, dispersing the haze and allowing our
stories to set hearts ablaze!

Week 7 & 8 MATHEMATICS: Miss McLachlan Last week in Maths, students studied tessellations. A tessellation is a repeating pattern of interlocking shapes with no empty space left over. Tessellations are used in both art and engineering, and even appear in nature! Students tested a number of familiar shapes to see if they could tessellate, and also drew tessellation patterns using one or more of these familiar shapes.
Some students also enjoyed finishing off their kaleidocycles from Week 6.
SCIENCE: Mr. Adams Last week Primary Links students used their Bunsen burner skills to undertake an entire experiment. Students studied the water cycle and changes of state. They set up equipment and used a Bunsen burner to demonstrate evaporation, condensation and melting taking place simultaneously. Students worked safely and competently and they were amazed when it began raining in their beaker.
Next week students will perform some experiments on carbon dioxide, a substance that changes directly from a solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase.
CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS - Dance Edition: Ms K. Zeritis This week we started our dance troupe off with a huge session of activities to prepare us for our dancing festival next week!
We have been exploring our body awareness and control, as well as how to stretch to warm up our muscles and avoid injury. We also did some crazy cardio which demanded coordination and balance superpowers, and learnt about locomotor and non-locomotor movements. In the flurry of activity we somehow managed to document our dance session! Next week promises to deliver the goods as we will be performing our own choreographies using our growing understanding of canons, levels, pathways and transitions! Get stretching year 6 and prepare to deliver your inner dancing queen!
