When it comes to your career or business, how do you know when you’ve “made it”? How can you tell you’ve finally ARRIVED?

Recently I surveyed you and asked you to list your biggest career challenges. Based on your answers, there are four steps to astonishing career or business success.

Here’s the first one.

1. Doing work you love.

In a study, the Gallup organization asked people a very simple question: “Do you love what you do every day?”

Only 20% of people in the world said yes.

Gallup also reported that more people die in our civilization at 9:00 am on Monday morning than at any other time.

I can relate to this. I know how it feels to be utterly dejected about my career.

In my early 20s, I fell into a depression because while I knew what I wanted to do with my life (be a speaker + life coach), I had NO IDEA how to make it a reality.

After I graduated from school, I got a research job.

Everyone else seemed to love it, but the day just crawled by for me. After three years I started to get really scared.

It’s not just that I felt I wasn’t making a contribution or doing what I was put on this earth to do. It’s that deep down, I knew I was chickening out. On some level, I was scared to put myself out there.

I remember sitting in the parking lot at 9:30 in the morning (because I never got there early), looking at the door to the building with my head on the steering wheel, thinking, “What’s the matter with you? Why can’t you get out of here?”

That was actually the worst part - doubting myself at a core level.

That was many years ago, and I’m very grateful that change was possible for me.

I now see that doing work we love that is EASIER than not doing it. It’s a true ‘no brainer,’ and I believe every person can do work he loves while being paid handsomely for it.

2. Creating wealth & financial freedom.

At the tender age of 13, she was sent to milk cows full-time at a neighbor’s farm for $15 a month. It was the Great Depression, and her parents could no longer afford to feed and clothe her.

"All we had to eat was porridge and pork. I didn't see a banana until I was 12," she likes to say.

When she got sick a year later and had to come home, her Dad said, "I knew you could never hold a job."

When she was 24, with two small daughters, no money, and a grade 9 education, she discovered her husband was being unfaithful.

It was crunch time.

Would she live in poverty forever?

She left her husband, buying him out of their house for $3336. Then she bought him out of his restaurant. Her husband was 22 years older, but she paid him $150 a month in alimony.

She still has that house. Today it's worth over 1000 times her investment.

She sold the restaurant and bought several more properties over the years, selling one in 2010 for just under $1,000,000.00. Her daughters went on to become University educated professionals.

How did she do it?

She had a Dream.

Her Dream was to never worry about money again.

She taught me that while we shouldn’t make money our God, it IS an important game of life – one we need to master or risk everything.

How do I know all this? She is my grandmother.

This brings me to the second step to astonishing career or business success: creating wealth & financial freedom.

If you’ve ever been broke, worried about retirement, or just longed for financial freedom, then you know that creating wealth is essential to career and business success.

Yet very few people actually master money.

According to Statistics Canada, the average yearly salary (averaged across all occupations and adjusted for inflation) is $61K year for a man and $46K for a woman. And check this out:

In the US, a recent survey revealed that out of every 100 people, by the age of 65:

5 were either wealthy or well off 5 were still working because they had to 54 were living off family or government support 36 were dead.*

That’s why I believe you owe it to yourself to create the financial freedom you deserve.

3. Mastering Influence

How did Nelson Mandela dismantle the legacy of apartheid and lay the foundation for democracy to South Africa?

How did Mother Teresa, a poor nun, build homes for orphans and nurse thousands of sick people?

How did Mahatma Gandhi lead India to independence and inspire movements for civil rights across the world?

Using INFLUENCE.

Influence is the third step to creating astonishing career and business success.

It has been called life’s most powerful skill because with it, you can easily get people to ‘Yes.’

And getting people to ‘Yes’ really is a dream come true.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re trying to make a sale, get a promotion, or get your teenager to help around the house. *Robert T. Kiyosaki, Rich Dad's Guide to Investing: What The Rich Invest In That The Poor and the Middle Class Do Not.

When you can get people to Yes, you get to take charge of your life rather than just follow the will of others.

Consider steel magnate Charles M. Scwab. Schwab was one of the most highly paid professionals in his day, earning over a million dollars a year (the equivalent of over $10 million today).

He was so good at motivating people that Dale Carnegie studied Schwab’s methods for his book, How To Win Friends and Influence People.

Carnegie said of Schwab: “Was his high salary because Schwab was a genius? No. Because he knew more about the manufacture of steel than other people?

Nonsense. Charles Schwab told me himself that he had many men working for him who knew more about the manufacture of steel than he did.

Schwab said that he was paid this salary largely because of his ability to deal with people.”*

The other cool thing about mastering influence is that it wipes out your fear of rejection utterly.

Rather than stay inside your comfort zone, trying to avoid rejection, you enjoy an inner confidence that feels heavenly – which is why I recommend you learn to persuade people to eagerly embrace your ideas, buy your services, line up to promote you, and finally start working together in the right direction.

Never again will you be taken for granted, bullied, or frustrated at work.

4. Lifestyle Freedom

In The 4-Hour Workweek, Tim Ferriss writes, “What do you do? - the most fundamental of American questions – is hard for me to answer these days.

I could be racing motorcycles in Europe, scuba diving off a private island in Panama, resting under a palm tree between kickboxing sessions in Thailand, or dancing tango in Buenos Aires.

How can I explain that what I do with my time and what I do for money are completely different things? …that I work less than four hours per week and make more per month than I used to make in a year?

The New Rich are those who abandon the deferred-life plan and create luxury lifestyles in the present using the currency of the New Rich: time and mobility.”*

Ferriss is waging a war against the “work hard for 40 years to enjoy life in old age” life plan we’ve been programmed to follow.

It’s a plan that assumes that life has to be hard drudgery in exchange for brief, snatched moments of relaxation on weekends and holidays - no matter how competent or experienced we are.

Case in point:

Canada’s highest paid 100 CEOs earned an average of $7.9 million in 2012, a report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives found. This is 171 times the average wage, the report says.

Put another way: By 1:11 p.m. on Jan. 2, the top 100 CEOs will have earned as much as the average Canadian earns all year.**

But, this salary comes at a high lifestyle price. The average CEO starts working between 3:30 am and 5:30 am and often puts in 10, 12, and 15+ hour days.***

So how do we join the New Rich?

By using the concept of LEVERAGE.

Leverage is defined as ‘using something to maximum advantage.’ That “something” is TIME.

When we properly leverage our time, we can quit being a rat on a treadmill with no work/life balance. Finally, there is time for what matters - family, friends, health, and passions.

Getting your time back is definitely one way to know that we have “made it” and actually ARRIVED.

This Special Report is an introduction to the 4 steps to creating astonishing career and business success.
