OUR LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

At the Angmering Sixth Form College we pride ourselves on high quality educational experience, whatever the level of study. Our class sizes are small, led by outstanding professional staff with a dedication to excellence.

Teachers routinely offer 1:1 or small group coaching in addition to their usual lessons, taking the time to stretch and challenge their students, or to support them when necessary.

In addition, our dedicated Sixth Form Study Room is open and staffed all day every day.

Computers, laptops and individual study carrels are available, as is expert advice on study skills, exam preparation and the university application process. You may also take advantage of the large, well-stocked main school library.

7

VIRTUAL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

In our Sixth Form we use a variety of online interactive learning tools to support your academic needs. Most subjects use Google Classroom to share information, set tasks and accept submission of work. We also use Google Drive as a means of working collaboratively with students. Homeworks are set using the “Show my Homework” website which will help you to stay on top of your workload.

In addition, many of our subjects use social media sources to share relevant and current information.

Our “Unifrog” and “Cascaid” online platform will facilitate your post - 18 pathway to university, apprenticeship or workplace.

8

PERSONAL GROWTH AND ENRICHMENT

At Angmering we take a holistic view of education: our extra-curricular Enrichment Programme gives you the opportunity to develop your intellect, improve your fitness, learn new skills and broaden your outlook on life. Higher education admissions tutors and potential employers look for students who have engaged in meaningful extra and super-curricular experiences outside the classroom: our wide-ranging Enrichment Programme will promote intellectual curiosity, critical thought and independent, self-directed learning which will prepare you for the wider world beyond the Sixth Form.

9

THE EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION Beginning at the end of Year 12, and completed during the spring term of Year 13, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is an outstanding super-curricular opportunity for you to extend your interest and expertise beyond the A Level syllabus, gain extra UCAS points, and develop invaluable higher level research and study skills ready for university.

Structured through a combination of taught sessions, and independent study under the guidance of a supervisor, you will research and produce a 5000 word report (or an artefact and a 1000 word report) on a subject of your choice, related to your particular projected field of study at university, culminating in a presentation to staff and students.

Past projects have included: "Boys don't dance - do they?"; "How quantum computing will affect our lives in the future"; and "Youthquake: was Brexit the catalyst for political engagement for youth?"

Universities particularly value this additional qualification, and some may even make a reduced offer to applicants because of it.

“ The entire EPQ experience has been both invaluable

and entertaining. I would recommend anyone to take the

EPQ as long as they have the time and inspiration to do so. ”

"The EPQ will be a great help to me as I head off to university, where research will be a vital

aspect, along with the skills I've developed of writing a cohesive

and structured report, as well as time management. “

10

Some of the opportunities offered are listed below: WORK EXPERIENCEDance studies, prestige car manufacturers, graphic design consultancies, laboratories, banks and playgroups - just a few of the work experience opportunities offered to all our Year 12 students in our work experience programme. As well as developing skills of team working, communication and resilience, this placement will help you to make your future career choices, and will form a key feature of your C.V. or personal statement.

VOLUNTEERINGWe will help you secure the volunteering placement which will build your confidence, teach you new skills and give you the opportunity to become part of a community and make a difference - while having fun!

“I was given responsibility for my own project during

my placement at the design agency, and the experience

helped me choose my future career path, and helped get

me into university.”

11

PERFORMING ARTSThe Angmering School Drama and Dance department offers Sixth Formers a wide range of additional activities, ranging from workshops with private dance companies to theatre trips. There is a wealth of opportunities for you to extend and challenge your current skills.

DESTINATIONS

be considering.

Many courses at university level build on knowledge which you will gain while still at school. Where this is the case, universities need to make sure that all the students they admit have prepared themselves in the best way to cope with their chosen course.

For this reason, some university courses may require you to have studied a specific subject prior to entry, others may not. However, there are some subjects that are required more often than others. These subjects are sometimes referred to as “facilitating subjects”, and are central to the selection of courses offered by the Sixth Form.

THESE ARE:

Mathematics and Further Maths ChemistryEnglish GeographyPhysics HistoryBiology Languages

Further information can be found at www.russellgroup.ac.uk/informed-choices or www.ucas.com, and from Sixth Form staff.

THE ANGMERING STUDENTS' UNION

The Angmering Students’ Union is a body of Sixth Form students who represent all the students within the college. The leadership board of the Students’ Union is broken down into specific officers who are responsible for areas of student life and academia, and they work to improve the student experience as much as possible. Officer roles range from entertainment to charities and equality - with our student liaison being the frontline and voice to the rest of the students. If you feel you can make an impact, lead and create change: then why not run for election at The Angmering Sixth Form - we look forward to welcoming you!

"I mentioned my involvement with the Students' Union on my personal statement and the

admissions tutors were really impressed with. it"

way the assignments are laid out and how we learn the criteria in lessons through the

theory and practical work."

24

DRESS CODEAlthough there is no uniform requirement, we do expect our Sixth Formers to dress appropriately in College, bearing in mind that they are role models for the younger students. We would define this style of dress as smart casual.
