Dear Madam,

Asking Permission To Conduct A Discipline Camp For BIG Programme Series 2.

Referring to the above, our unit 2 PISMP Remedial Education, Institute of Teacher

Education Sultan Mizan Campus would like to conduct a Discipline Camp as a

community service at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Permaisuri NurZahirah.

2. The reasons for organising Discipline Camp are the sudden increase in

gangsterism as well as truancy cases among students recently. We conducted a

survey and find out that bullies have many reasons for bullying younger children.

Most of them bullly for money, while some of them bully to show power. Others bully

because they feel inferior. In order to feel in power,they bully the younger and smaller

boys. Finally, some of them bully because they are members of one gang or the

others.

3. We plan to have the following activities:

i. A talk by police officers from the Juvenille Department. This willl give

the students an insight into laws against crim acts

ii. Exhibition on Crime and Detection – Such an exhibition will enable

students to see for themselves what happens to criminals.

iii. A ‘Gotong Royong’ - to make sure our surrounding is clean.

6. The target group of this programme is the problematic students who have

been continually involved in serious offences. Most of them come from unstable

homes and families – divorced parents, financial difficulties, neglect, lack of attention,

etc. We hope to help them through the activities organised in this camp.

7. From this activity, we hope it can build our attitude of cooperation, confidence,

responsibility, and have integrated and tolerant personality. Besides, we hope that

this activity will change the behavior of students in the present time. In the hope that

the Students will now be more disciplined and committed to the task. When we

involve in this activity, we can be more confident to conduct class at the future and

improve teachers profession.

8. Our group also hopes that the institute will sponsore the foods budget that we

seek, through this letter I enclose budget for the program.

An Event Report of ‘Discipline Camp at SMK Permaisuri NorZahirah’’ For

Human Build Up (BIG) Series 2 in 2010.

On August 6, 2010, the last Friday 2 PISMP Remedial Education had carried

out a programme for Teachers Human Build Up (BIG) Series 2 at SMK Permaisuri

NurZahirah. Here we performed a Discipline Camp as a community service program

for two consequative day which will be starting from 6 August to 7 August.

The target group of this programme is the problematic students who have




About 8.10 a.m we arrived at that place with some staff welcomed. There

were twenty one of us which is two men and eighteen girls and we were also

escorted by our tutor, En Helmi bin Hussin. After having a breakfast, we heard some

briefing from our leader, Mohamad Faiz b. Abdol Samad about the programme.

After that, we were having the forum at the SMK Permaisuri NorZahirah Hall.

The forum was handle by the police officers from the Juvenile Department from

Kampung Raja Police Station. This forum will gives the students an insight into laws

against crime acts. In the forum, the police officers told research had shown that

bullies have many reasons for bullying younger children. Most of them bullly for

money, while some of them bully to show power. Others bully because they feel

inferior. In order to feel in power,they bully the younger and smaller boys. Finally,

some of them bully because they are members of one gang or the others. From the

police file, there were a lot of cases whereas many student were involve in bully.

After the forum was finish , we take a rest for a while to have lunch. During the

break, we also go for prayer. After the break, we were showing an Exhibition on

Crime and Detection. We think,such an exhibition will enable students to see for

themselves what happens to criminals. This exhibition will give student first-hand

information on the living condition of criminals in prison. All these activities are

organised to deter students from commmitting crimes.

On 7 August 2010, at 7.00 am, we were having the breakfast prepared by the

canteen school. After having the breakfast, we were carried out ‘gotong royong’.

Besides that, as usual,we have briefing from our leader, Mohamad Faiz b. Abdol

Samad about the ‘gotong royong’ activity. After completion of the briefing, we were

divided into 4 groups. One group will draw and paint the class wall and the other

three group will clean the area of SMK Permaisuri NurZahirah. Each group consists

of five members of teachers trainess and fifteen of students.

As we know, there are many dengue cases at Besut area. So, we decide to

held this ‘ gotong royong’ to help to prevent the dengue cases become worst. The

main objective of this event is to make sure our surrounding is clean, and beatiful.We

gathered on the Badminton court at 8.30 a.m. Encik Helmi b. Hussin was already

there with the two others lecturer Encik Yazid and Encik Wan Aziz.

The purpose of the activity is also want to do some maintenance work in the

area of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Permaisuri NurZahirah and put new paint

inside the classroom wall and draw mural on the kindergartens building. All the

participant were full of enthusiasm about the activity.

We were separated into four groups and every team has their own task to

complete. The lecturers provided the necessary tools such as hoes, black plastic bag

and spades. There were not enough tools to go around but the students agreed to

share them.

Encik Yazid’s team had to sweep the rubbish and put all the rubbish into the

plastic bag. They also have to clear the messy place by cutting the grass. They were

also asking to plant the flowers to make the area of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan

Permaisuri NurZahirah beautiful and peaceful.

About the half students followed Encik Sabri to the west side of the area of

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Permaisuri NurZahirah while the other half followed

Encik Yazid to the East side. The drain on the west side was partially blocked by rock

and earth that had fallen into it. Encik Sabri’s team spent about an hour clearing the

drain. Eager hands make short work of the blocked drain that would have been

impossible for one man to clear.

Encik Wan Aziz’z team had an equally tough task of repairing a section of the

old wire fence around the school. The school had provided the new fencing material

and under the supervision of Encik Wan Aziz, the fence was repaired in less than two

hours.

Encik Helmi’s team had to put new paint inside the classroom wall and draw

mural on the kindergartens building. All the members in this group work together to

make such a beautiful mural. Shafiq as a photographer for our classes took a picture

for our documentation for this program.

By 12 p.m. the gotong royong were done and the students happily gathered

in the school café for some well-deserved refreshment and snack provided by the

cafe operator.

All in all, the gotong royong was a success. The students were happy that

they could do something for their school. The school staff were very thankful to the

entire students that contribute in gotong royong. After that, we stopped for a lunch,

bathing and praying.

At 2 p.m we continue our programme with the reflection session. During the

reflection session, we ask the students about their opinion regarding the Discipline

Camp. There were many positive feedback that we got about this camp.

Some students said that they regret about their past because they always

make a trouble in school. They also want to change their attitude and hope all the

teachers can help them and give full of support to them. They realise that they must

follow all the school rules in order to prevent themselves from commmitting crimes.

Besides that, we also ask the teacher who work in that school to give some

suggestion to reduce bullying in the school. There were some suggestion, firstly,

younger and smaller boy should not be left alone. They should always be

accompanied by someone who is bigger than them. We can also have a ‘’Big Brother

or Big Sister’’ campaign. In this campaign, we can encourage older boys and girls to

take care of the younger ones in the school. Bullies must also be reported

immediately so that the problem does not recur. Lastly, we must organise campaigns

against bullies by encouraging more students to take up self defence classes such as

taekwando.

From this activity, we hope it can build our attitude of cooperation, confidence,







The weakness of the program is less of budget. We don’t have enough budget

for food and to buy the equipment to make many activity. Actually we like to organise

many others activity during at camp. Because less of budget, we have to reduce the

activity such as trip to the Sg. Buloh Prison. We think if we organise trip to there, this

visit will give students first-hand information on the living condition of criminals in

prisons. All these activities are organised to deter students from committing crimes.

Besides, we also don’t have enough time. Actually in just two days, we maybe

cannot make any different to certain students. But, this program is aimed at helping

students to develop good values. Other than that, some students do not involve in

this camp even their name was listed. This is because their parents did not want to

give cooperation with school. They also think that their children still young and must

have a freedom in their life. Parents should know, one of the basic rules of parenting

is that parents should spend enough time with their children. When parents get too

occupied with their carreers, there’s certainly less time available to be with their

children.

Lastly, we left for home at about 5.00 p.m. tired but happy that we did

something good.
