How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• Particular social groups are represented well in my magazine the ‘cover star’ appeals to a large audience as the record label have given the star a set of ideals and conventions in to the way he is represented so that audience can instantly recognise him. This is called dyers star theory, ‘ a star as a construction’

• This means the cover star is represented in a range of ways in my magazine he is represented as being in the rock genre, we can infer this because he is wearing dark clothes, these are conventions of the rock genre. We can take that the star is rebellious as you can tell that the band are part of the punk/indie rock sub genre this is because he has purple hair, died hair is a convention of this genre. There fore this magazine will straight away appeal to the direct fans of this bands and indirectly the fans of the punk/alternative rock genre.

youth

• Young people are represented in my magazine as the majority of festival goers are younger. I have included a banner about the line-up of the Reading and Leeds festival. The banner will gain the readership of this group of people as they will want to know who is playing at the festival, And they will purchase the magazine because of this.

Colour

• My magazine uses colour in a way to attract my audience, my magazine uses the colours, black, red, grey, and yellow.

• The conventions of the colour black are death and suspicion these are both conventions of the rock genre therefore relevant to the magazine.

• Red is a youthful and bright colour however its connotations lie heavily inside the rock genre.

Double page spread image

• The picture on my double page spread is a greyscale image of the cover star with his hood up looking down. The only colour present ties in with the house style, the band on his t-shirt is asking Alexandria and this logo remains red. This means fans of other bands are represented in my media text .
