About the Program

The Haleakalā National Park Hawaiian Arts Residency Program offers weavers, story tellers, hula halau, literary artists, musicians, oli, mele, and visual artists, an opportunity to apply for a residency from one to six weeks during the months of August, September or October of 2012. Groups or individuals who create any Hawaiian art form are eligible to apply. Artists will be provided with housing within the Summit District of the park, a modest stipend and be reimbursed for island or interisland transportation expenses. Meals will be the responsibility of the artist.

Donation to Haleakalā National Park Collection

As per agreement with acceptance into the residency program, selected artists are asked to donate to the park an original piece of artwork or other appropriate professional documentation of their writing, dance, music or performance from their residency. Donated artwork or documentation must be received no later than one year after an artist’s residency has been completed. In collaboration and with permission of the artists,

National Park staff may organize exhibitions, workshops, or lectures showcasing the art and artist on Maui. Performances may be videotaped or recorded.
