    as in accomplishment of this internship work and in the preparation of this report.

    Executive Summary

    The report is about the internship experience that I encountered from 5th Jan 2015 to 6th

    March 2015.

    The first section of the report will be compromised with brief introduction of the company

    profile and the services that the company provided.

    Next will be the main structure of this report, which the projects involved. Each projects

    will contained a brief introduction of the project, the major job scope that covered and

    learning outcomes for each projects.

    Following by appendices which will contain some documents of CCM and some picture

    from the site visit. In this following section will consist of sketches of planning of spaces

    for semi-D housing that able to enhances about the setbacks and the UBBL required.

    Lastly the report will include a conclusion and references.

    1.0 Introduction

    1.1 Objective

    The purpose of this internship is initiate students awareness and perception of the

    existence and application of the UBBL and Building Regulations that is existing

    nationally/ internationally. Furthermore, it helps student to establish experiences with

    regards the different activities that occur within a normal architects firm. A log books is

    required to fi ll in for valid and informative project documentation. During the internship

    period, student is allowed to fully participate in any form of projects that is permissible

    by the company. Hence, log books is required to fi ll in for valid and informative of

    students project documentation as an evidence of students involvement and

    subsequently produce a complete report to accomplish the outcomes. The contents

    must be check be the company as the report will comprehend private files and company

    of the company and verify by companys signature.

    1.0 Projects Involved

    1.1 Project 1- Taman Adda (Phase 7)

    Site Location : Taman Adda, Adda Height, Johor Bahru, Johor.

    Project Type : Residential

    Developer: Southern Gateway Sdn. Bhd.

    Taman Adda (Phase 7) consists of 8 different types of phases which are semi-

    detached, bungalow and cluster. 4 types are given to modify the layout of the spaces to

    fulfill client requirements. Each elements are listed in different layers that is fixed by the

    company and area of each spaces must fulfill the minimum requirement. Students are

    later require to update the total built gross area.

    Plans are later colored in Photoshop for better vision and presentable to the client.

    Learning Outcomes

    Through this project I gained knowledge about common materials used in the industry

    and each spaces were arranged to avoid pantang for every religion in Malaysia.

    Furthermore, I understand the purpose of naming and simple color coding in the

    Autocad drawing. I also understand that the standard minimum and maximum distance

    between each sanitary layout must be followed the minimum dimensions that is

    provided in the UBBL.

    1.2 Project 2- Senibong Clubhouse

    Location : Senibong Cove, Senibong B5B6s Clubhouse, Johor Bahru

    Project type: Clubhouse

    The Senibong Clubhouse is located in the section of Senibong B5B6 residential area.

    The clubhouse was designed in a long rectangular shape as area were fixed by the

    client. Many space layout consideration were taken place when designing the

    clubhouse as the toilet and the main corridors were connected from the outside and

    preventing the main corridor from getting wet from the users after the swimming pool.

    After the space layout has been confirmed, the sanitary, piping, columns and beam were put

    into for submission drawings.

    Sections and elevations were drawn and aligned to the plans to avoid mistakes in placing

    building elements such as doors and windows in the building.

    Learning Outcomes

    From this project, I learnt about the standard windows and doors schedule that is

    commonly used in the industry. Moreover the placement of each building elements to

    achieve 5% of natural lighting and 10% of ventilation by using the size of the doors and

    windows. The plans, sections and elevations are arranged in a manner so that it is

    neatly aligned and avoid mistakes in the submission drawings.

    2.3 Project 3- Senibong B5B6

    Location: Senibong Cove, Johor Bahru, Johor.

    Type: Residential

    26 units 3 storey bungalow Type A

    44 units 3 storey link bungalow Type B

    Developer: Front Concept Sdn. Bhd.

    For this project, I was instructed to organize the setbacks for each type of residential

    houses and put into an orderly manner to be submitted as evidence that the standard

    setbacks required by the Building Regulations were achieved.

    There are at least ten types of setbacks requirement. Using the longitudinal section and

    the cross section, the setbacks from the outermost wall of the ground floor for each

    types and dimensions were extended so that can be clearly i llustrate for the submission.

    Learning Outcome

    In this project, I learnt that different types of land requires a certain minimum setbacks.

    The minimum setback of each houses must be clearly stated as in the UBBL and

    achieved to proceed with other process.

    2.4 Project 3- IJM Sales Gallery

    Location: Taman Mount Austin, Johor Bahru, Johor.

    Project Type: Temporary Sales Gallery

    Developer: IJM Land Properties

    The IJM Sales Gallery requires four blocks of building which consists of office, reception

    display area, toilets for public use and project department. The entrance is specially

    designed and required two rams for the OKUs use. A outdoor deck (terrace) is design

    to connect the building to the lake. Although is a temporary gallery, the series of

    thoughtful deliberation effort is put into the design to achieve optimum results.

    Learning Outcomes

    In this project, preliminary studies and awareness of the site condition is important

    before designing the building. I learnt that both function and form follows the site.

    Moreover, I learnt to color plan in the Photoshop so that it is easier and clear for the

    2.5 Project 5- RMMJ

    Location: Taman Dato Chellam, Mukim Tebrau, Johor Bahru, Johor.

    Types: Low-cost Residential

    Developer: Panoramic Jaya Sdn. Bhd.

    RMMJ stands for Rumah Mampu Milik Johor. It is a low cost housing area which is

    especially those have lower incomes. It is a landed properties but the design layout is

    similar to the apartment layout. A house that can accommodate by two families. In this

    project, I am required to submit standard architectural tender drawing for submission.

    Reflected ceiling plan indicated which types of finishes required for different spaces in the

    building.

    Learning Outcomes

    I learnt that accuracy is most important in the tender drawing. Not only need to pass

    through the Jabatan Pembangunan but also needed to clear understandable drawing

    for the contractor. Therefore, every finishes of the materials, dimension of the doors and

    windows etc. common specification has to be clearly indicates in the drawing to avoid

    mistake during construction. In this project, technical specialist Miss Pang assisted me

    to complete the task given.

    Me and Alfred(another intern) seeks approval for joining a CCM meeting in Taman Nusa

    Duta at the IJM office. The CCM is conducted by Mr. Andy Chua from DC Architects.

    From this meeting, I learnt that contractor plays a major role in keeping the construction

    works from delaying. Inspection from different authorities were to be completed as soon

    as possible. Even though minimum time to complete the building and completed with

    CCC requires 2 years, but there is no time for delaying.

    Site meeting at the Taman Skudai Indah Phase 3A. Construction details to be

    discussed and updated to the architect in charge. A rare view to see as some

    construction is not build up yet therefore the structure and section can be seen clearly.

    The structure of the brick walls can be seen as it is not completed with finishes. It gave

    us the experience to see what is going on behind those nicely done houses before it

    Different types of documents needed to be signed to different apartment in the Jabatan

    Pembangunan. It is quite hard sometimes as the officer-in-charge is not around as the

    documents need to be sign urgently. Even though is in Johor Bahru but the region for

    submission is not the same, the southern part of the Johor Bahru will submit to the

    MBJB (MAJLIS BANDARAYA JOHOR BAHRU) while the northern part of the Johor

    Bahru will submit to the MBJBT (MAJLIS BANDARAYA JOHOR BAHRU TENGAH).

    4.0 Conclusion

    During the duration of internship, the staff of DC Architects are nice and willing to teach

    what is required for this module. They are helpful and patience during work. During the

    trip to the government building, I am able to recognize different authorities and

    department for planning submission and building submission. Furthermore, enhancing

    my knowledge about UBBL and tender drawings. Specifications are importance to

    justify a set of working drawings. Special thanks to Mr. Andy Chua and Miss Goh who

    allowed us for participate in a typical CCM and SM where we learn a lot about different

    attendants play crucial role in completing the project. Small discussion are made for

    better understanding in the project by that, I also learnt how to work fast and efficient to

    avoid delay of submission. By that, a complete set of log book is produced to testify my

    working schedule and practices in the firm.
