On November 8, GSSO concert- master, sought after soloist, and music teacher Elliott Markow will team up with GSSO principal obo- ist, University of New Hampshire music instructor, Margaret Herlehy to perform the J.S Bach Concerto for Violin and Oboe. e two will perform together at Bach is Back, the second concert of the Orches- tra’s 2008-2009 season. e concert will feature compositions from pa- triarch Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Johann Christian Bach—both capable composers in their own right. Babb is excited about the oppor- tunity to showcase not only Mar- kow’s exceptional prowess with the violin, but also Herlehy’s ability to communicate musical melodies to an audience, seemingly without ef- fort. Markow began playing at age four and has continued playing ever since—currently on a violin made by Giovanni Battista Rogeri of Bres- cia in 1709. At age 11, he made his professional debut performing the Mozart Concerto No. 4 with the Boston Pops. He has been playing with the Granite State Sympho- ny Orchestra for over eight years and is currently the concertmas- ter of not only the GSSO, but also the New Hampshire Philharmonic, Nashua Symphony Orchestra, and Granite State Opera Orchestra. He has also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra. Markow teaches at St. Paul’s School in Concord, Manchester Community Music School and at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Herlehy shares Markow’s pas- sion for music education. She is an instructor at UNH, and the Artis- tic Director of Music da Camera Chamber Music Workshops, which she founded in 1992. She is an ac- tive member of the Infinities Cham- ber Ensemble, a group which often performs at Massachusetts elemen- tary schools to engage and educate youth. Moved by the stunning debut performance last spring of composer Lawrence Siegel’s Kad- dish, the artists will unite their tal- ents to create a celebration of the arts at Keene State. However, the production is not only about the past, but also about exploring our humanity and responding ethically to intolerance and injustice today. Elliott Markow Featured Soloist in Granite State Symphony Orchestra Concert

CONCORD – If you ask Robert C. Babb, the Granite State Sympho-ny Orchestra’s artistic director and conductor, what makes the GSSO so remarkable, his answer will be immediate. According to Babb, it is Elliott Markow, Margaret Herlehy and the other members of the or-chestra whose exceptional dedica-tion to and passion for music make every performance truly unforget-table.

On November 8, GSSO concert-master, sought after soloist, and music teacher Elliott Markow will team up with GSSO principal obo-ist, University of New Hampshire music instructor, Margaret Herlehy to perform the J.S Bach Concerto for Violin and Oboe. The two will perform together at Bach is Back, the second concert of the Orches-tra’s 2008-2009 season.
