Overview This appendix documents required data definitions for objects in the BIM. These properties must be attached to the various types of objects, and their values filled in accurately.

The list of properties in each data definition was developed from two Operations drivers or use cases:

1. Operations users need to see these properties when navigating the model in 3D.

2. These properties will transfer to Maximo (this is a subset of the overall required properties).

The data definitions specify exact names that must be used; these standards must be followed for proper for consistency across the program and for successful integration with any other systems (e.g. Maximo).

Not sure if we want to additionally make this requirement:

In some cases the list of allowable values and/or data type (i.e. Integer, String) is also specified. Where this occurs, only those values and types are allowed.

Every data definition contains the following columns:

PROPERTY NAME DESCRIPTION OP-S EXAMPLES

PROPERTY NAME The exact property name as it should appear in the BIM.

DESCRIPTION A brief description for user understanding only within this document; this is not intended to be implemented in the BIM.

OP-S Will this property transfer to the Operations System (e.g. Maximo)? This is yes/no (Y/N) designator.

EXAMPLES Real examples of values.

It is understood that the native BIM production software provides far more properties than these data definitions; these definitions only capture the properties necessary for integration with Operations activities and therefore required to be input accurately by BIM Owners. These properties are either considered “above and beyond” the native software properties, or they apply restrictions (such as naming standards) on native software properties.

Where a change or deviation from this Standard is deemed necessary, such change and the driving reason for it, must be communicated to the BIM Program Manager through the process described in Section 3.4.9 of the Standard.

1.1 Equipment This data definition is used for many different types of equipment, from electrical power devices such as wall outlets to major pieces of process equipment. This data definition is referenced throughout the document from various design discipline sections.
