School is Back – This Monday, 25
May!!
From next Monday, 25 May, schools will be wel-coming back all students for the remainder of this
term. The Queensland
government decided that schools would re-open
next week to all children as it was now safe to do so. We will still have to insist

on good hygiene practises for all children and staff,
and social distancing prac-tices with all adults. Our
extra cleaning regimes for the school will remain the
same as it has been throughout the Covid-19
pandemic.
We would like to thank all parents for the superb job you did working with your children on their ‘learning
from home’ packages.
Whatever you managed to do with your children when schools were in lockdown , whether it was a little or a lot, please know that have
helped them on their learning journey. Thank
you to all parents from all the staff!
At School This
Week
At school, we are doing the same work that students
who are learning from home have been given to
do. This week we have had
more children coming to school as more of our par-
ents returned to work. This week we have had up to 21 students at school.
In Ms Lane’s class we have had almost all the stu-
dents, save for one stu-dent, back in class. There
will be even more students at school next week with
all state school students re-turning to school from
Monday, 25 May.
Reporting to Stu-dents and Parents
Because our term has been
interrupted by Covid-19, our end of semester as-
sessments and the reports that go home to the stu-
dents will be a little differ-ent this year. We hope to have all assessments com-pleted by the early part of
term 3 and report cards will be sent home on the
13 August. This allows the teachers the best oppor-
tunity to report on all sub-jects for this semester.
There will be no parent-teacher interviews as we
would usually do, but par-ents are most welcome to make times to meet indi-vidually with the teachers
if they want to.
Block C Refurbish-ments
The builders have been
busy in the classrooms up-stairs and downstairs. The two large rainwater tanks have been moved to the western wall of our tuck-shop. The excavators and the crane were a welcome distraction to our students who had a great vantage
point from which to see the whole operation of moving the large tanks
from their previous posi-tion to their new spot at the back of the tuckshop.
The front of the school now looks a lot prettier.
This week saw the last of the excavating work com-pleted. Builders finished off the steel framing for the new windows and
doors. Electricians have also been on site towards
the end of this week.
We are happy to get some rain, but we hope that it
won’t delay the completion of our Block C refurbish-
ments.
It’s all looking great so far.
Wellbeing Classes
From next Friday, and for every Friday afternoon for the remainder of this term,
the school has engaged Dance Fever to run well-being classes for all stu-
dents. This is a combina-tion of yoga exercises and meditation techniques so
that the students learn how to cope in times of
stress, which we all experi-ence in life. We had organ-
ised these workshops for the children at the begin-ning of this year before
Covid-19. It now seems to be very timely that we can
offer the students these workshops when they
could be feeling a bit un-sure about what the future
holds post Covid-19. Hopefully, these classes will teach the students
how to remain calm and centred when times are
difficult.
Year 3-6 Class
The class has been working quietly and well through all
their weekly tasks this week. We have had the majority of the class at
school each day this week. Hopefully everyone can
make it back to school by next Monday. We are only
waiting on Alyssa, Erin, Maklan and Laxon for Ms vB’s class (and Levi for Ms Lane’s class) to return next
week, and then we will have all our students back
at school. A big ‘thank you’ goes to all the stu-
dents who worked well at home in the last few
weeks. You have proven
that you can take charge of your own learning and
work well independently to get your work done each week. This mature ap-
proach to your learning will stand you in good stead in
the future!! Well done, guys! We are so proud of
you! We can’t wait to have the
school operating as normal again, and I know that the students who are currently
at school can’t wait for their friends to come back next week, and for every-thing to go back to nor-
mal!!
Staff on Leave
Ms v B will be taking long service leave from 8 June, for the last 3 weeks on this term. Kasey will be acting
principal in her absence and Ms v B’s class will be
taught by Mrs O.
Junior News
This week we have been
busy working through our units of work so we can work on our testing. We have started some of our testing, although we still have some more work to
do to complete our testing for report cards.
In English, we have contin-ued on with our persuasive
c2c unit. Last week we looked at different adver-tisements and how they
are used to persuade us to buy something. This week we focused on the struc-ture of persuasive texts
and debated whether the students preferred winter
or summer. We also looked at modal verbs and how to use them to make our ar-guments sound stronger. We have been practising
the long ‘a’ sound this week and the different
ways we can write it (ai, ay, a_e). It proved a bit tricky
but all of the students worked really hard to learn their spelling words. Well
done! The Preps learnt the sounds ‘q’ and ‘sh’ this week. We have finally
learnt all the letters and sounds of the alphabet.
We will now be working on diagraphs. A diagraph is
two letters that make the one sound (ch, sh, th, ai,
ue, qu, ar, oa).
In Maths, this week the Year 2s have been working
on 3D objects and their properties. We have also
been working on our prob-lem solving skills. The Year 1s have been working on
chance and data. We have discussed different events and the likelihood of them
occurring. We have also collected data and repre-sented that onto graphs.
In Geography, the Year 1s and 2s explored how sites and places of the past can help us to learn about the
local area. We also learned that remains of the past
can be important to people for different reasons. The Preps are currently com-pleting their Geography
testing.
More from us next week.

P&C News
The P&C will be holding their Annual General Meeting and there Ordinary General Meeting in the school’s staff room at 6pm on the 14 July 2020. Projects, including fundrais-ing, for this year are expected to be discussed. The meet-ing should be concluded by 8pm that night. All parents are cordially invited to attend the meeting and to contrib-ute to the discussions and decisions that will be made on the night. The school’s P&C has always worked very hard to support the school over the years and we hope to con-tinue this collaboration for the benefit of all the students well into the future.
