My best wishes to everyone for a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year as we begin 2012. I can hardly believe that half of my Rotary year is over. What a totally awesome time I have had for my first six months. In my travels in the District, I have met many wonderful Rotarians, community leaders, and people from all walks of life. The experience of being District Governor is a full time job, but I will tell anyone it is well worth the time and effort involved. To Tom Fallon, and Walt Sickles, I’ll say hold on to your hats as you gear up for the ride of your life. To our newest member of the Rotary leadership team, Herm Dieckmann, District Governor Nominee Designate, I say welcome aboard.
Now to get your 2012 calendars up-to-date, here are some important dates:

As you can see we have a busy schedule ahead of us and it’s my hope that all District Rotarians will make an effort to participate in some of these events. What better way to increase your involvement and make your Rotary membership more rewarding than to take your activities to the next level? And, as always, if you are interested in volunteering on the District level we have plenty of areas that could use your help.
Happy New Year to my fellow District 7300 Rotarians,

“Rotary District 7300 – 100% Paul Harris Campaign”
Another January and another new year. For most of us, if not all of us, it’s that time of year when we’ve made our new year’s resolutions and this year we vow to stick to them. Simply put, resolutions are our goals for the new year. This year I’ve made a resolution to have our district become the first “100% Paul Harris Fellow” district in the world. Difficult - yes. Impossible - no. But I need your help.
A key word in the title of our organization is “International”- Rotary International. Through our contributions to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) we can accomplish two very worthwhile goals. One to promote and fund the humanitarian efforts of Rotary Interna-tional worldwide and secondly we will increase the amount of money coming back into Rotary District 7300 and our clubs three years from now for many of our projects. Henry Ford said, “Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” I think we can.
Here’s the deal:
Due to an anonymous donor, Rotary District 7300 has a significant number of matching points. We're setting the goal of becoming the first 100% Paul Harris district in the world.
The district will match up to $500.00 for anyone becoming a new Paul Harris Fellow. If a Rotarian has already contributed $500.00, we will match 250 points if they contribute a new $250.00. Clubs can match the individual's $250.00 and the district will match with 500 points. Check with your employer to see if they will provide matching funds (many companies do).
There are approximately 1250 members in Rotary District 7300. We can match 500 points for every member in the district.
The initial matching point campaign will run from January 1 through June 30, 2012.
Past District Governor, Rick Martin, will keep a running total of all clubs and information will be posted in the district’s monthly newsletter.
Checks should be made payable to "The Rotary Foundation" and sent directly to:
PDG Rick Martin1456 Eighth AvenueNew Brighton, PA 15066-2226
We're looking forward to being the first district in the world to achieve this goal!

This newsletter should hit your computer around “Super Bowl” time. I hope the Pittsburgh Steelers have qualified to compete in the “Super Bowl,” but even if they didn’t (they’re pretty banged up this year), they are a wonderful example of a team grounded in the basics of football. They take blocking and tackling seriously. If a player does not perform these game basics at the highest level, he’s no longer a Pittsburgh Steeler.
How does this relate to Rotary? What are the Rotary equivalents to blocking and tackling?
Membership Development is definitely a Rotary basic. A Rotarian or a Rotary club that does not work at membership development soon becomes soft and flabby and membership suffers. So take a tip from Mike Tomlin, Coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, never forget the basics of the game.
If you want to be a member of a “Super Bowl” Rotary club, you can’t forget the basics of blocking and tackling. Champions work at the basics. Champions earn what they achieve.
Ethics is an important element in all of our daily lives and I would add especially for Rotarians. We are measured by a higher standard. The Society of Financial Service Professionals has been sponsoring the Pittsburgh Business Ethics Award (PBEA) Luncheon for 10 years.
The 2012 Pittsburgh Business Ethics Award (PBEA) Luncheon is being cosponsored by The Rotary Club of Pittsburgh. All nomina-tions are in and are being analyzed by a panel of independent judges. Corporate winners (small, medium, and large categories) will be announced at the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh meeting on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, PA.
All district Rotarians and their guests are invited to attend. It will be a gala affair. Larry Richert of KDKA Radio will be the emcee. J. Brett Harvey, Chairman and CEO of CONSOL Energy, Inc. will be the featured speaker.
Please contact Karl Ohrman for additional event details.
ALL clubs are to report their club's attendance each monthby the 5th of the following month.

“Read Across America: A Celebration of Literacy”
On Dr. Seuss’s birthday, March 2nd, it has become tradition for educators and volunteers to read to children in their classroom as part of an annual reading motivation and awareness program. If your club is interested in participating in Read Across America, sponsored by the National Education Association, contact either the school librarian or the children’s librarian at your local library for specific information.
Although it is customary to read a Dr. Seuss title, and The Lorax is being featured this year, you can find excellent ideas at ...

It’s hard to think about this year’s Rotary District 7300 Conference with snow flying. However, it’s only six months away. The wheels of progress are beginning to roll and we will have our second committee meeting this month. District Governor, Sue Kelly, has some great ideas for this year’s conference.
This year’s conference will be back at Seven Springs Mountain Resort, which over the years has been the sight of many great conferences. It will be held in the Summer from June 22-24. School will be out so we are encouraging Rotarians to bring their children and grandchildren to make the weekend a family affair.
Seven Springs offers many great activities for attendees (flyer attached). There are also many new activities to enjoy including a “World Class Spa”, Sporting Clays, and “Mountain Zip Line”. This is truly a complete resort with plenty of things to do!
Our committee is planning for other additional things to do. On Friday we will have our traditional golf outing, Saturday afternoon will feature a Fashion Show (models from the district), and entertain-ment each evening.
We already have five hospitality rooms reserved by clubs; each having their own theme. All in all this will be a great conference. We will keep you informed of developments over the next six months. You won’t want to miss this event. Mark your calendar today!
If you have comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact me, Bob Rupp, at (724) 861-0300 or at [email protected].
For additional information regarding Seven Springs Mountain Resort, please visit www.7springs.com.

ALL Rotary District 7300 Rotary clubs should submit their attendance figures within the first two weeks of each month. This gives your club members the opportunity to attend “make-up meetings” for meetings that were missed during the last two weeks of the previous month.

The Green Tree Rotary Club celebrated the Holiday Season with their annual White Elephant gift exchange at Scoglio's Restaurant in Foster Plaza. The lunch was delicious and everyone had a great time. Members exchanged "unique" gifts. Rick Canello was thrilled with his light-up camouflage reindeer antler hat. More pictures available for viewing in the “White Elephant 2011” photo album at www.greentreerotary.org.

Green Tree Rotarians rang the bell for the Salvation Army in December in front of the Giant Eagle on Cochran Road. This year, there was a CD player playing Christmas carols. Many shoppers joined in and sang a few bars. The kettle was so full when it was returned to the Salvation Army that the last few dollars had to be forced in. Good show, Green Tree!

“Is There Anybody Out There???”
A new year equals new resolutions. Aside from your personal resolutions, what are your Rotary resolutions for 2012? What will you and the members of your club resolve in 2012?
A couple of months ago I mentioned that I’ve heard from just a few of you regarding your club’s fundraisers, activities, and fellow-ship events. Is There Anybody Out There??? I’m still waiting for you to E-mail, snail mail, or pick up the phone and call to let me and others within Rotary District 7300 know what your club is up to this year. We’d love to hear from you!
The Rotary District 7300 Governor's Newsletter is published between the 1st and the 5th of each month. The submission dead-line for club articles and events is the 25th of each month. In order for me to publish “...from the Heart” by the 5th of each month, I need time to sort, edit, and proof.
If your club is having an event, let me know about it. I’ll help your club spread the word! If your club has had an event and would like to have it highlighted in the newsletter, please send your club's article and photographs to me as soon as possible after the event has taken place. Be sure to include the “who, what, where, when and why” in your article as well as the names of the people in your photographs in order from left to right!
Please visit www.rotarydistrict7300.org. Explore! Learn! Enjoy! Encourage club members and others to visit the site. Utilize the district website as a tool to promote your club, to gain the interest of prospective club members, or to find your way to a Rotary meet-ing location!
“Life’s most persistent and urgent questions is,‘What are you doing for others?’”
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
When I first joined Rotary I distinctly remember seeing a blue and yellow sign that was hung outside of my first pancake breakfast with the Lawrenceville Rotary Club. It plainly read “Enjoy Rotary”. Granted, this was before I really knew about the Rotary themes for the year and I thought to myself, how incredibly dorky.
Fast forward a couple of years…As Marie and I pulled in to the Erie Bayfront hotel for last years’
district conference, a huge blue and yellow sign greeted us as we pulled in...”Enjoy Rotary”, and for once, that sign finally made perfect sense to me!
I enjoy the Pancake Breakfasts, the 5K’s, the dinner dances, the meal packing, the mentoring, the delivering Meals on Wheels, the assemblies, the chili cook-offs, the bar-crawls, the meetings, but most of all, the people. I enjoy the company of my fellow Rotarians and the people that I meet through Rotary. I enjoy who we help, in what way we help, and for what we stand.
As Marie and I are headed out to San Diego for our final phase of my becoming District Governor, we are encouraged to share our “Rotary Moments”. Mine is exactly that, the time when I realized what “Enjoy Rotary” meant to me. It’s the moment where I changed from a person who is in Rotary to a Rotarian.
So, what made you take the leap to become a Rotarian? What is the moment when you started “Enjoying Rotary”? What is your Rotary moment? I am always up for a good story if you would like to share yours!
Yours In Service,Tom Fallon

Howard Tours Founded in 1948, Howard Tours has been operating tour programs for over six
decades. Thousands of Rotarians have traveled with us to participate in polio
eradication trips, wheelchair deliveries, and humanitarian missions. This is the
15th polio eradication program we have organized.
Howard Tours is a tour company, and not a travel agency. We do not resell tours
from other companies. Instead, we select and purchase the travel services
directly from the airlines, hotels, sightseeing companies, etc. We then sell these
tours directly to our customers affording our travelers the greatest travel value.
This program has been organized to include all of your essential travel needs
after our arrival - no further fees should be charged after we arrive in India. This
material provides you a specific itinerary and our terms and conditions to know
specifically what is, and is not, included in the price of the program.
Rotarian Purpose
Our Indian hosts have opened their arms to receive us by helping to create a unique and exceptional itinerary. In
addition to our participation in the National Immunization Days (NID), we will participate in special Rotary events.
During our visit, all participants will be expected to attend all official programs, including the National
Immunization Day activities and Rotary club visits.
Delivery of Documents: Due to the last minute nature of this group, travel documents will be delivered to
you very near our date of departure. We will send documents to you via UPS or other secure delivery method.
Please be sure that we have a delivery address on file where someone is available to receive and sign for pack-
ages during normal business hours.
Special Note on Airfare By the time the Indian Government confirmed the immunization dates, it was too late to secure a group airline con-
tract. Therefore, the tour price ONLY includes ground services; it does not include airfare. You can secure your
own airfare, or request this service from Howard Tours on the enclosed application. Our airport transfers and itin-
erary are coordinated with American Airlines flights that offer the lowest airfare and most convenient flight itinerary
from throughout the U.S.
Current American Airlines economy class roundtrip airfare between San Francisco and Delhi is approximately
$1200, plus a $50 service fee. Quotations for other originating cities are available upon request. Availability and
airfare are subject to change until the tickets have been paid for and issued. To secure the lowest airfare, provide
us with a Visa or MasterCard credit card number on the application. We will then immediately secure your reserva-
tions. Once secured, we will reconfirm your flight itinerary and airfare BEFORE purchasing your airline ticket.
Passport, Visa and Health Requirements All U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport and Indian visa. The cost of obtaining your visa is not in-
cluded in the tour price. Howard Tours will assist you with obtaining your visa. We will forward detailed instructions
with your tour confirmation materials.
Inoculations: The Center for Disease Control (http://www.cdc.gov) indicates that there are no required vaccina-
tions to travel to India. They recommend that U.S. citizens take precautions against yellow fever, malaria and other
diseases. Please consult your physician or travel doctor to determine the precautions appropriate for you.
