Term 3 - Week 9 P & C meet THIRD Monday of every MONTH, 7.00pm Thu 15 September, 2011

FROM THE PRINCIPAL:

This week:

Football and basketball success

Kincumber Festival

Sick Bay Rule of the Week

Football and basketball success

Congratulations to our basketball and football teams who have

enjoyed considerable success recently.

Mrs Griffiths very generously gave up her time to accompany

the boys’ basketball team to Bathurst last Monday where they

played well, did their best and were placed fifth (we think) overall in the state – awesome work! Thank you to the team

of supporters who travelled with them.

Mr Nipperess and the boys’ football (soccer) team won their last game by one corner and will now go on to play

somewhere on the North Coast. Great work boys!

Kincumber Festival This week the P & C is having a cake stall at the Kincumber

Festival. The stall isn’t only about fund-raising, it is also about

awareness-raising. We want the wider community to know

about the great work that happens here at our school and the

close relationship that exists between its members – students, parents, staff and other school supporters.

Our school choir will be performing but unfortunately the

dance group has had to withdraw. We have received 30 tickets for one free ride at the Kincumber Festival and these will go to

the first 30 cakes brought into school on Friday 16 September.

Sick Bay

In a perfect world there are no slips, trips, falls or accidents of

any kind at school, no-one gets sick and has to have time off

school. In the real world, however, kids fall over, fall off things, get grazed knees and bump into things. They also get

headlice, colds and flu and infectious diseases. Most of these

misfortunes are inconvenient and annoying rather than life-

threatening.

In the last couple of weeks our sick bay has been full a lot of

the time and a little bit like the emergency ward of the local

hospital. If your child is injured in some way before they come

to school, we would appreciate that parents take care of an injury by dressing/bandaging it or seeking medical attention

before sending children to school.

We do not have a dedicated school nurse or paramedic to

attend to the variety of injuries or illnesses that present at sick bay. Sick bay is essentially an opportunity to observe,

provide first aid and then either return children to class or call

you to come and collect them.

Your help and understanding is sincerely appreciated.

Rule of the Week

This week’s rules are about toilets. Teachers and students

practised and talked about the following expectations that

relate to our school’s four values of Care, Courtesy, Cooperation and Commonsense.

These expectations are important as we need good hygiene

practices to keep us healthy, for safety (wet floors are slip

hazards) and to ensure student safety.

Hope you had a great week at our great school!

17th Annual Chess Tournament Last Friday Murray Southall, Conor O’Dwyer, Nic Duell-Ferguson, Jai Menser, Nathan Graham, Jack Day, Connor Thomson, Dylan Richardson, Hayden Smith and Caolan O’Dwyer attended the 17th Annual Central

Coast Chess Tournament at Wyong. Each boy played 7 games of chess! The boys played their best, some in very challenging matches! Murray Southall scored 5.5 points during the day, closely followed by Conor O’Dwyer, Nic Duell Ferguson, Nathan Graham and Jai Menser on 5 points each! Our school was placed equal third in the schools competition with Green Point Christian School and Wamberal Public and behind St Celias (2nd) and Avondale (1st).

Congratulations on a great day boys! A special thanks to Naree Smith,

John Day and Deanne Menser for transporting the boys to and from Wyong!

Congratulations to our boys’ PSSA soccer knockout team who are the Central Coast champions and are one of the eight teams remaining in the state that are undefeated. Yesterday the boys won a tension filled match against Killarney Vale Public School by conceding fewer corners after the game was drawn 2-2 after ten minutes extra time. The next match will be against a north coast team as yet to be advised. Well done boys, keep up the great teamwork!
