“Easter Is Here! Share the Good News!”
Recently, I came across the following poem entitled “Tell the Disci-ples.”
Into the tomb they took Him, sad of heart,
And rolled the stone, then turned aside apart
To mourn each one the unfulfilled fair dream
To which their dead hopes could no life impart.
Back to the tomb they went at break of day.
The stone that sealed the tomb was rolled away!
Frightened they looked, and heard the words of joy
“Fear not: for He is risen. Go your way.”
“Tell the disciples,” from the tomb they came,
Renewed in hope; with eyes alight, they bare
Christ risen in their hearts, alive not dead –
And, lo, he has been with them everywhere!
These words describe both the greatest injustice in human history, the cruci-fixion of Jesus Christ, and the greatest miracle of human history, His glori-ous resurrection. In short, it is the greatest news of all. Today, we are followers of Jesus because so many believers before us answered the call to “tell the disciples.” But now that we have received the gospel and God’s wonderful gift of salvation, we need to continue this mis-sion of proclaiming the love of Jesus Christ to all of the world, a world that includes our neighbors, our friends, our relatives, our co-workers and our classmates. So this Easter, let’s celebrate the Good News that Jesus is alive by sharing His love with our world through all that we say and do.

Our boys are having a great time as we look forward to spring!
We had a great Pinewood Derby last month, with some really creative cars and some close finishes. In March we also welcomed a new Webelos Den Leader, Paul Hoffman. Paul is excited to take over the Webelos Den for us and will be here next year as well. He has a great history with Pack 19 with many years ser-vice as a den leader; he is also involved with Troop 19. Also in March, several of the boys made a lot of progress towards their rank achievements, and some even crossed over to our Boy Scout Troop.
Our Tigers (1st graders) will be receiving their Tiger badges at the end of April. On April 24th, we will have our annual Raingutter Re-gatta - the boys will be building small sailboats from kits and then race them down a raingut-ter filled with water (providing their own wind through a straw). It is great fun to watch too.
We have a camping trip planned in May as the boys finish up their achievements this year.

regular PLC meetings to decide how to run the
troop. Also some of the boys are going to the

camp on the coast. Please pray that the boys
stay on course on becoming great leaders, citi-

Thank you to everyone who volunteered while the IFH families visited with us during March 21 thru April 4. Since we hosted the families for two weeks, we had twice the opportunities to help. Our AUMC Family really stepped up and helped in every area. Thank you for all you’ve done.
IHN is still in need of toiletry items (deodorant, make-up samples, tissues, etc.) and any other small
items (chewing gum, pens, note pads, etc.). These items are given to the families in their rooms
when they visit.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES FOR ADULTS!! Sunday School is not just for children! We have 3 entirely new classes.
All of these classes fill an important need in our church.
Single Again!:Single Again!:Single Again!:Single Again!: This class meets upstairs across from the Upper Room Class. It is for divorced or widowed persons. This
class is already very important to its members. Do you think that all Sunday School Classes are filled with married people, and you do not fit in? Come join them! Contact Peggy Johnson for more information.
Young Adults:Young Adults:Young Adults:Young Adults: This is for single people age 18 – 30. The class is meeting in the Mabel Murray Prayer Room downstairs.
This class is growing, and they invite all college students home for the summer to join them. This is a great class. Invite your coworkers to come, too! It is very important for young people to make church a vital part of their lives. Contact Rebecca Kidd for more information.
Dana McKim Class:Dana McKim Class:Dana McKim Class:Dana McKim Class: This class is targeting married couples with or without young children or single Moms and Dads.
This class meets in the Wesley Room. It starts at 9:40 on Sunday mornings. This is a great opportunity to help start a Sun-day School class. We have a lot of new members that fit this category, as well as longtime members that have not been at-tending Sunday School. Contact Cheryl Traylor for more information.

Happy Spring! I confess that I am a spring lover. I get a little depressed when I see the leaves turning colors and falling off, be-cause I know the winter, with all of its cold and dead looking trees is near. I just love big green trees!
I went to Fayetteville with Garret this past Sunday after church to see his parents. Along the way we looked at the trees. As we went through Sanford and into Cumberland County, the blossoming pear trees were in full bloom. As lovely as this species of tree is, we do not want to plant them in our yard, because they tend to split and fall during the strong summer storms. We talked about the different varieties of pine trees, and how people rake up the pine needles to use in landscaping. However, I do not trust pine trees. My parents had a pine tree to blow completely over a few summers ago. The cement walkway a few feet away from the tree buckled and broke into pieces, but even the cement could not hold the tree up.
I knew that my deadline for this Newsletter article was in 2 days, and I had NO idea what to write about, but as I rode along looking at trees and signs of spring, I decided to research tree roots! The idea kept coming to me that the tree must have deep roots to withstand the wind and storms. I could not help but think about how, like trees, we must grow deep roots, too.
In my research, I learned that 90% of a tree’s root system is NOT deep. The root system spreads out in fingerlike tentacles about 12 to 18 inches below the soil’s surface. These roots MUST be healthy, because they absorb all of the nutrients and water that a tree needs. Those beautiful green leaves that I love are kept alive and growing by what is under the surface of the tree. This root system that spreads out from the trunk of the tree can extend out 1 to 3 times the height of the tree. These roots are not as tough as people think. They can be damaged if the soil is too hard and compacted if they do not get sufficient water. It is easy to damage the roots by digging a trench or hole too close to the tree. If you add too much topsoil over the roots, they can be too far under the ground to store the water needed to grow leaves. The health of the tree depends on the roots, and they can be damaged for three to five years without showing any ill effects on the outside of the tree where we can see them. Eventually, with a damaged root system, the tree dies.
You know I am not only talking about trees! Like trees, we must grow roots that will be healthy enough to weather the storms of our lives. We must add nutrients to our roots by coming to church, reading our Bibles, and discussing God in Sunday School and with friends. Like trees, a lot of water at one time will not keep our roots healthy. We must have a steady supply of the water of life. We need a steady presence in church and Sunday School to understand this living water more and more. Heavily dosing in church at Easter and Christmas only is NOT enough to sustain our root system. Damaged roots, uprooted for all to see, can be very dangerous, but being with fellow Christians at church and in small groups can keep the stress away from out roots until we get them covered up again.
Finally a line in my research summed everything up by saying that to keep our trees alive, we have to surround them in a healthy environment. I think we can keep our root system in a healthy environment – it is called Archdale United Methodist Church. We simply cannot stay green, strong, and beauti-ful without the water and nutrients of Jesus! Come find out more about Him this Sun-day, and every Sunday that you are at home and well. Help your tree (life) to grow strong enough to weather those spring and summer storms. They will be here before you know it.
I’ll see you in church. Make it a habit! Keep the faith,
Cheryl
