Employment

2009 to Present. Freelance Art Director. Adtec, RMG Target and Ackerman Group plc

Ackerman Group plc is a company that deals with the leisure, toy, retail and lifestyle sectors. I have been working on both packaging and corporate identities for many of their varied products. My job is to create the packaging designs and send them over to China where they are printed and distributed back to the UK.

RMG Target are based in Dublin and are the largest Direct Mail agency in Ireland. I created concepts through to the finished artwork for both Guinness and Vodafone. With Guinness, I worked on their ‘250 years of Guinness’ campaign which ran worldwide. Vodafone was a new client and I was trusted to be the first art director in the agency to work with their new direct mail campaigns.

Adtec is a small agency based in London and have clients such as Burberry on Sony. It was my job to maintain their strong brand identities by creating concepts that respect and enhance their individual brands globally with work on both dvd and book sleeve designs.

2007 to 2009. Art Director. Campaign Works

Campaign Works is a creative marketing and design agency working with clients such as Hilton Hotels, Regus, Tesco, East Thames Housing, Proskauer Rose, The Institute of the Motor Industry and Greene King IPA. It is my role to not only come up with initial first scamps but to follow the approved concepts through to the finished printed stage. A large percentage of my work is with Hilton Hotels and Hilton Worldwide resorts.

2002 to 2007. Senior Designer. Insight

I had been working for Insight, an agency that mainly deals in the financial sector. I managed a team of three designers and it was my job to create and maintain the identity of Insight starting from the internal brand guidelines through to ‘above the line’ advertising campaigns.

2000 to 2002. Art Director. Heath Lambert

I was solely in charge of the design division, working on projects to raise global awareness. This was achieved with the creation of posters, leaflets, booklets and exhibition stands to promote their strong standing in the financial sector.

1999 to 2000. Senior Creative. Freelance

I worked at various companies in the Soho and Covent Garden area as a Senior creative. Working with clients such as EMI Publishing, Park (b2b agency) and BBC Worldwide. I had the good fortune to design familiar dvd, video and book covers for the BBC such as: BBC’s Ground Force, David Copperfield, Food and Drink, Harry Enfield and Chums and Match of the day.

1998 to 1999. Art Director. Teamspirit Limited

Teamspirit was an exciting prospect for me, as I found myself working in a ‘through the line’ agency in the financial sector. I worked on jobs from the original conceptual stage - through to the final print piece. My role included working on all areas of the advertising spectrum, from 48 sheet posters down to direct mail packs directed at on-going customers. My clients included: Prudential, Clerical Medical, NFU, Woolwich and Pearl Insurance.

1994 to 1998. Designer. Burnett Associates This was the position that really helped me understand the practical aspects of being a graphic designer. I created scamp-drawn concepts through to preparing the artwork for finished print. A large proportion of my work involved detailed retouching and montaging images in Photoshop. Burnett Associates was a prestigious direct marketing agency with clients such as: Greenpeace, The National Trust, RNLI, Christian Aid, Feed the Children and Amnesty International.

1988 to 1994. Artworker/Designer. Blades Design & Advertising I built my way up from artworker to designer, working with clients such as the major pharmaceutical company Glaxo where I produced documents in many different languages in order to promote their products internationally. I also worked with the publishing company Emap, working on page layouts and posters for publications such as Just Seventeen and Smash Hits.

Clients I have worked across the board in many different sectors: ABL, TTL and BTL. With clients such as: Greenpeace, BBC Worldwide, The National Trust, Hilton Hotels, Laura Ashley, Guinness, Vodafone, Friends of the Earth, The Royal National Lifeboat Institute, Insight Investment, Amnesty International, Woolwich, The National Farmers Union, and Greene King IPA to name but a few.

Packages Indesign, QuarkXpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Word

I am a very efficient creative who has been in the design industry since 1988. I am trustworthy and take great pride in every project. I have an honest and friendly personality with very strong communication and conceptual skills. Whether your business is specialised or has an array of clients, I will always be able to adapt very quickly to any environment that I find myself working in.

Leisure Hilton Hotels - The Waldorf Hotel Centenary Book

The book shown is a sixty page guide which tells the story of the first one hundred years of The Waldorf hotel in London. The book’s back cover has a metalic image which has been taken directly from a wall of the hotel’s patisserie and has been embossed to create a three dimensional feel to it, while the internal pages differ from spread to spread depending on

the subject matter and era of the subject. The book can be purchased at the reception of the hotel and had an initial print run of 100,000 copies.

Leisure Hilton Hotels - In room collateral concepts

The in-house collateral above is a creation for my client Hilton Hotels. The brief was to create an item that informs the customer of the $50 Guarantee pay-out they would receive if they found a cheaper room at any other hotel than Hilton within 24 hours. The above $50 Guarantee card was a concept that would hang from the bedroom mirror. The various dollars together shown in the centre show a concept that would hide inside a bedroom table revealing

only the folded dollars. The far right visuals were designed to have the look of a $50 note printed on the front of a small envelope, which was delivered directly to the customer with their bill for their duration inside.

Leisure Hilton Hotels - T5 Shuttle literature - Recruitment materials

The T5 Shuttle literature shown above is awareness piece to existing Hilton Hotel customers who commute through the T4 lounge and need to be made aware of the T5 Shuttle service that Hilton can provide. The projects consisted of Duratran posters within the airport, exhibition stands, revolving door posters and various pieces of direct mail literature.

The recruitment material literature was created for my client Hilton Hotels. The two far right spreads are part of a twelve page recruitment guidelines brochure.

Direct marketing Greenpeace - We need warriors!

This was a direct mail piece that needed the assistance of both design and copy. I was fortunate enough on this project for the client to approve both my ideas on design and the caption. My idea on this project was for the theme to be based on native Americans, using the word ‘wild’ from ‘A call to the wild... and the furious’ to be aimed at both the theme and the customer. The intention was that the customer

not only felt moved by this piece but also felt enraged enough to donate funds to the Greenpeace cause which was to save the planet before we are all historical relics.

Page 6: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Direct marketing The National Trust - ‘Trust us!’

This was a direct mail piece that needed the assistance of both design and copy. I was again fortunate enough on this project for the client to approve both my ideas on design and the caption. The concept for this project was based on seeing the world through the eyes of a child, using the caption ‘It’s not only fields and horses we care about’ as a play on words from the successful TV show ‘only fools and horses’.

I used the illustrations from my seven year old niece to convey the importance of maintaining our heritage for our children.

Page 7: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Direct marketing Amnesty International - Various campaigns

This was a direct mail piece created with the emphasis on keeping the project bold and under budget. With this in mind, I created not only the corporate identity but photographed our very own staff as the subject matter. This piece was very successful for Amnesty International and lasted for three years. The direct mail piece on the right also had a pen attached which strengthened

the headline copy and encouraged the customer to fill in the accompanying reply form. This piece eventually went on to win a bronze in the D&AD awards.

Direct marketing BCS Global - ‘Time to dust!’

This was a direct mail piece for BCS who are a video conferencing organisation that needed a DM concept that could aimed itself at existing conference users and were aware of the equipment but not the potential. The letter had a ten page roll folded awareness card that when fixed changed the message on the cloth to ‘See the difference’

Product BBC - David Copperfield/Life of birds/The Planets - Video/DVD sleeves

The dvd and video sleeve designs were created for my client BBC Worldwide. The David Copperfield video sleeve was designed with the same look and feel as the programme in which it came from. There is a strong emphasis on aqua as this was used very generously throughout the adaptation. The Life of Birds dvd sleeve uses plain bold typography as the images and creator of the programme speak volumes requiring a design that was both bold and simple. The Planets dvd used

beautiful photography that enabled me to keep the book, dvd and video sleeves very bold but simple in order for the imagery to do all the talking. All were produced globally and can still be found in most video retailers.

Product Veda - Corporate identity, website design

Created as both corporate identity and web-based design layout for the client Veda. This was a freelance project with the brief requesting the feel to be mystical but relaxed with a very modern feel. Veda is a health resort with high emphasis on the use of herbs and natural remedies. With this in mind, I created a logo which shows a flower mounted upon

a canvas effect. The approved web layout was then given to a web engineer to animate my ideas into the final website.

Community Deep River High - The spice of indian life literature

The two front covers shown above were both photographical montages needed for the client Deep River High. The book entitled ‘This Indian life’ showed the diversity of the Indian culture using various images fading in and out of each other, capturing the spiritual qualities it has to offer. The final printed version became an A4 brochure that was created for the travel industry. The hand held booklet shown

on the right had the same look and feel but used the spices and herbs of the Indian palette as its front cover.

Community Barking and Dagenham Council - Baseline corporate identity

Created as both corporate identity and stationery for the client Barking and Dagenham Council. This was a freelance project with the brief requesting the feel to be urban and very modern, as the baseline project helps troubled children from deprived areas gain work and social skills. With this in mind, I created a bold street typeface identity and incorporated various garish colours resembling that of graffiti

art found in most urban areas throughout London. The documents (letterhead, business card and website) are just a few of the items that were needed for the baseline project.

Imagery 125 Magazine - Sushi Sioux images

The above photography was created for the publication 125 Magazine which is produced globally. The brief was to show what can be achieved in Photoshop showing four images that had the overall theme of Japan. The original images (as shown in the smaller boxes below) were taken by a photographer and needed enhancing in order to achieve the final outcome. The images had a theme of ‘Sushi Sioux’ and we follow Sushi

through the magazine as she takes in all the sights and sounds of the Japanese culture. The final montaged images took four days to produce by myself and went out in the Japanese publication of 125.

Imagery Various photographic manipulations

The photographic manipulations above have been created for various clients using varied techniques in photography and photoshop. The projects ranged from travel imagery needed for specialised holiday literature, hair photography for trade magazines to bespoke executions. All images were captured by myself and then placed into photoshop to create the finished product.

Page 15: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Imagery James Harris - ‘The streets are ours’ clothing range

The photographic manipulations above have been created for James Harris who is a UK based clothes designer. All images were placed into photoshop using varied techniques to create the finished product. I came up with the idea of ghosting the models faces so that you could completely lock into the designers clothing range.

Corporate identity Veda, Izit, Betty Von Elsie and Go-Getters

Veda: Two colour corporate identity, created in Illustrator as an eps file. Betty Von Elsie: Three colour corporate identity, created in Illustrator as an eps file.

Izit: Full colour (CMYK) corporate identity, created in Illustrator as an eps file. Go Getters: Full colour (CMYK) corporate identity, created in Illustrator as an eps file.

Corporate Heath Lambert - Hilton Hotels - Insight - Exhibition stands

The exhibition stands were created for both Heath Lambert Group plc, Hilton Hotels and Insight Investment. The stands were 3x3 full colour pop up stands and originally artworked at a quarter of the final requested size as this was a requirement from the printing house.

Page 18: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Corporate HEC - Folder and booklet

The literature shown was designed for HEC Precision who are a company that deal in making mechanical components for companies such as Boeing, Rolls Royce and the Formula One Group. The brief was to make the company look as futuristic as possible. Although the components were fairly bland in appearance, the nature for which they were designed for was extremely exciting. The piece shown on the left was their

corporate folder and the piece shown on the right was designed to be printed in various trade publications with the ad showing on the front sleeve.

Page 19: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Advertising Veio - Investor responsibility advertising (visuals and final)

The advertising was produced for the environmental group Veio. The concepts shown were presented to the client and the final advertisement (shown top left and marked with a white keyline) became the final approved execution. Both the design and headlines on all nine ads were created by myself.

Page 20: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Advertising Insight - Advertisements

The advertisements were designed for Insight Investment and were printed in various investment publications throughout 2005. The concept was based on having two opposite images that both represent the headline text in their own contradictory way.

The final concept was chosen and was produced for a year long Insight awareness campaign (as shown).

Page 21: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Corporate Insight - Global business principles literature

The above designs form part of the environmental literature for Insight Investment. The above brochure was designed to show what the effects of investing either poorly or wisely in the business sector can do to the environment. I designed the contents page with the idea of showing a ‘timeline’ device enabling the customer to quickly view the item they are interested in with the correct page number.

Page 22: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Corporate Heath Lambert - Website identity

The above web design was created for Heath Lambert Group plc, the web layout was then given to a web engineer to animate into the final website.

Page 23: Antony Sayer Lr Bookcmix 2010

Corporate Insight - Strategic partnerships literature

The literature shown was designed for the ‘Strategic Partners’ division of Insight Investment. The above (in blue) was the original concept, but later transformed into becoming the brochure in green. The piece was a twenty four paged A4 landscape full colour brochure showing illustrations throughout that assisted the copy.
