Why are we here? The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015, requires that each Title I School hold an Annual Meeting for parents/families/community members for the purpose of:
● Explaining the requirements of Title I
● Informing you of your school’s participation in Title I services
● Explaining your rights as parents to be engaged
Mission
First Ward’s mission is to create leaders to be independent learners through a student-centered
environment and by integrating arts across the core
curriculum.
Vision
First Ward Creative Arts Academy will be Leaders in the Arts and among the top schools in CMS in Education. We will ensure that students at each grade level are prepared academically and socially to be successful at the next grade level.
Core Beliefs
We believe… - All children can and will learn. Maintaining high expectations for all students supports
student achievement. - That standards aligned teaching should be happening everyday in every classroom. - By integrating arts into the curriculum, students become aware of additional gifts and
talents they possess.- A safe and orderly environment promotes active learning and communicates to our
students the importance of maintaining an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
- Great teaching is using current best teaching practices to educate our students.- … and value our parents. Parents are an essential part of our students' success. - … and are committed to growing teachers professionally through observation and
feedback. - Our student’s voices matter and we desire to provide avenues across the school for their
voices to be heard.

What is a Title I school?
Title I is the largest federally funded educational program. A Title I school is a school receiving federal funds for students. The basic principle of Title I is that schools with large concentrations of low-income students (EDS-educationally disadvantaged students) receive supplemental funds to meet students’ educational goals.
? Title I schools have a Population of 75% or more economically disadvantaged students which is the criteria for qualifying to become a Title I school in CMS (FWCAA is approximately 85% economically disadvantaged)
? Title I schools provide Equal Opportunities for all students
? Federal guidelines must be followed or schools could
lose funding
