We saw a sizable increase this year in physician placements. Most important, this means increased access for communities from coast to coast.
Our number of J-1 placements is included in our total number of physician placements: 1,414.
The ability to post jobs on 3RNet’s website is very easy and does not take a lot of time or resources. It is a very valuable resource for community health centers to have at their fingertips!

Expanding Our Education
We expanded our educational resource activity through the creation of mobile friendly eBooks. We created eBooks for candidates on Loan Repayment Programs, Navigating the J1 Visa Waiver Process, and Health Professional Shortage Areas.
We updated our Recruiting for Retention manual, giving it a fresh look and making it easier to use. Worksheets are now fillable PDFs and the manual is also available as an interactive eBook.
We released a new eBook entitled Factors to Market Your Rural Community: Identify and Communicate Strengths, Invest in Challenges. This book utilizes 50 factors as determined through the Community Apgar program created by Dr. David Schmitz and Dr. Ed Baker. This resource is available to members to use with facilities in their state and is customizable upon request. Additional eBooks using other factor sets created by Apgar work are in process of development.
We created a Director of Education Outreach position to further our education outreach efforts and brought Michelle Varcho, our Director of Operations, on full-time in this additional role.
We updated our website in January with some improvements aimed at the member experience. These enhancements provide a better platform for communication with members about their core responsibilities as a member of 3RNet. In addition to the website changes, we also improved our mobile site by adding a registration button that will now allow health professional candidates to fully register for 3RNet from a mobile device.
Promoting 3RNet
We attended several national events again this year promoting 3RNet. For the first time, we led one-on-one sessions covering the J1 Visa Waiver process at the American College of Physicians’ Internal Medicine meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
We revamped the look of our Annual Report to make the information more accessible for our members, partners, and friends.
We continued the conversation on our social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google Plus. Members continue to contribute the basis for much of our content through our weekly ‘featured member’ promotion.
Rural Health Summit
We successfully hosted the first ever Rural Health Summit in Portland, Oregon in partnership with the National Cooperative of Health Networks Association (NCHN) and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH). Over 350 attendees and 35 sponsors attended the two-day joint conference.

OUR FUTURE
NATIONAL RURALRECRUITMENTRETENTIONNETWORK
3RNet.org Enhancements
We’re working on improvements to our website, 3RNet.org, that will include integration with Kontact Intelligence tracking system. Our site will now incorporate responsive design, meaning our platform looks the same whether you’re on a computer or mobile device.
Growing Our Educational Materials
We’re working on a webinar series directed toward facilities that will focus on topics surrounding rural and underserved recruitment and retention efforts.
We’re continuing our work with the Community Apgar Program and will release a Factors Book aimed at Community Health Centers.
We’re also working to make versions for employers of the eBooks we have already created on loan repayment, J1 Visa Waivers, and HPSAs.
Continue to Improve Member Service
According to data from activities we’ve entered into our TruServe tracking system, 3RNet staff completed 1,489 activities that impacted 439 unique members, candidates, partners, and facilities.
