Message from the Chair and Vice

Chair of Anxiety UK

2016 was a successful year for Anxiety UK with our dedicated staff team supporting an increasing need for support within the public.

Colin Fyfe

Anxiety UK Chair

Discussions about Anxiety and related disorders became more common and open with celebrities and particularly prominent young people speaking out about their experienc-es and challenges. We applaud the determination of all who have experienced Anxiety to reject the "stigma" that has sur-rounded mental health in previous times.

Our Chief Executive has been very vocal on this subject and

during 2016 has used various media opportunities to high-

light the support available through Anxiety UK's services.

My thanks go to the Anxiety UK team who always rise to the

opportunities each year brings and to my fellow Trustees.

Reflections from our

Vice Chair

Message from the Chair and Vice

Chair of Anxiety UK

Kate Jury

Anxiety UK Vice Chair

I continue to be delighted to be on the Board of Trustees of such an important Charity which makes such a difference to the lives of people, and carers, living with anxiety and anxiety related issues. This year we have seen the Board continue to evolve with new Trustees joining us and sadly some long-standing Trustees have left us after many years of valuable contributions. During the latter part of this year I have stepped into the role of Vice-Chair and through this appointment, will continue to support both Nicky and Colin in their key roles.

I am extremely grateful for the daily dedication that our staff team show in support of the people that access the services provided by the Charity, and yet they manage to keep smiling and going the extra mile. I never cease to be amazed by how inventive and strategic our small charity can be in thinking of new ways to support people, and I’m always proud of how the voices of our service users are always included in our thinking and how we plan for the future.

We have done a great job of increasing our media profile this year and Nicky has worked tirelessly doing interviews on national radio and also in the national press. I’m so glad that anxiety is finally being given the attention it needs as a serious health concern and that the stigma associated with living with anxiety is finally being challenged; a lot of this is due to ensuring that the voice of our Charity is heard and through our continuing research and service development. I’m looking forward to 2017 and beyond and I’m excited to be supporting such a vital Charity.

Therapy Services

Throughout 2016, our national network

of 198 Anxiety UK Approved Therapists

has continued to deliver a range of

talking therapies at subsidised rates to

our members. This year, 344 of our

members benefited from accessing

these therapies.

Our members continued to have access to a range of different therapies

including CBT, counselling, and clinical hypnotherapy. This year has also

seen the introduction of acupuncture services being made available to

our members, through a project launched in partnership with the British

Acupuncture Council.

By offering our members access to talking therapies over the phone and

via webcam, in addition to in person, we have been able to cater to the

preferences and needs of our members, meaning even more people

can benefit. Additionally a Fast Access to Services for Therapy (FAST)

supported a number of non Anxiety UK members this year.

Feedback from Anxiety UK Members:

“Skype CBT sessions were won-

derfully flexible and I felt really in-

volved in the programme each

week”

“regular contact with my therapist

through the week helped me to stay

focussed and feel hugely better”

Infoline & Associated Services

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of both our staff and

volunteers, our Anxiety UK National Infoline has continued to

offer much needed advice, support and information to people

across the UK (and further afield).

Our Infoline volunteers have played an invaluable role in offering support and information via our telephone service, email, live chat and text services. As always, their contribution to the charity cannot be overstated.

“Transformative - The therapy was incredibly effective but the best

part was that arranging it was effortless. As someone suffering

from anxiety making arrangements was usually torturous but this

process was so easy”
