1. Policy Development New Policies Developed

• The LIRC Use Policy was updated. The purpose of this policy is to explain how and why students and teachers can access the LIRC and the advantages of using a flexible schedule. A copy is stored on the teacher shared folder under LIRC- Policies.

• A copyright policy reminder has been placed above photocopiers. • A new policy for Secondary Department loans has been established. • A new policy for handling MP3 and audio content has been developed. • An online procedures manual is being continually updated. It is located at

http://lirc.pbwiki.com/ • A draft collection development policy has been written but still needs to be ratified. Located

on the LIRC share under Policies. 2. Library Holdings

Resource management

• The Oliver journey continues. We received a major upgrade in May, which addressed many problems we were having. Development continues in collaboration with Softlink Australia.

• The Primary Chinese collection has been organised into three levels. The Chinese classroom collection is currently being added to the Library for management and ease of access and circulation by students and staff.

• An audio collection in MP3 format is now under development. The LIRC purchased 22 IPod shuffles to facilitate the loan of these files.

• Established a new Primary Chinese Graphic novel collection. • Selected, purchased, catalogued, and processed 6,366 new text and audio resources

since August 2008 • Added 12,005 new websites • Weeded 377 resources since July 2008 • Re-catalogued, bar-coded, spine labeled and covered Secondary Chinese collections • Begun cataloguing all English Dept. textbooks and managing student circulation.

NB. Many secondary department texts have now been catalogued through the Library system. To manage circulation efficiently and minimize losses, it is recommended that all College texts be catalogued and loaned to students through the Library rather than being directly issued by teaching staff to students. 3. Library usage Up to date borrower loan statistics have been difficult to generate by Oliver. This is a high priority for development with Softlink. Loan breakdown below had to be extracted by Softlink staff and cannot yet be accessed by the user. With the increased enrollment this year, loans have risen by more than 20% on last year’s figures. Literature Circles (Yr 7) and Genre groups (Yr 8 ) have had a positive impact on reading and will be extended to Yr 9 in 2009/2010. The introduction of audio support allows all students regardless of reading ability to access age appropriate material.
