According to him, knowledge, analytical skills, patience, discipline and confidence are a few essential qualities for good teachers. He remarked the profession of teaching as ‘the noblest’ of all and urged the faculty to evolve an effective training system which could churn out social engineers and world class managers, but not engineers in technical sense. 2013. A tableau is exhibited with a message about the importance of consumption of more of indigenous

goods which would boost the Indian economy. The float highlighted the causes for the down fall of

rupee with a concept “BE INDIAN – BUY INDIAN”. ANITS won third prize along with cash award

which has been given away by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. G.S.N. Raju on 16th August, 2013

in a meeting specially convened to felicitate the prize

winners, held at Andhra University.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

A one-day ‘Faculty Development Program’ was conducted at ANITS on 17th June, 2013, to hone the

skills and qualities of teaching in higher Technical Education. Prof. Bala Mohandas, former Vice

Chancellor, Nagarjuna University delivered key note address in which he appealed to the young

teachers to leave behind the age old Macaulay education system which aimed at producing stereotyped

With a prime motto to sensitize the professional development

of the faculty members, a faculty development program on

‘Understanding Research’ was designed on June 20th by

the Department of CSE and IT jointly under the aegis of CSI

student branch, ANITS. It was conducted by an experienced

resource person Prof B Majhi, Department of CSE, NIT,

Rourkela. The professor, in his defining address, gave

emphasis on curiosity, persistence and open-mind as key

factors to engross in true research. Tips to identify the topic

for research and the life cycle of research process were vividly

discussed by him. The speaker also mentioned the do's and

don’ts of writing good research article and persuaded to avoid

plagiarism while writing the paper.

Mr.S. Venkata Ramana, Trainer, Easy ARM, Bengaluru during the session

A one-day workshop on ‘Arm Cortex-M0-Microcontroller’

was conducted on 3rd July 2013 organized by ANITS

Communication Engineers Society (ACES). The program

was presided by Dr.K.Murali Krishna, HOD, Department of

ECE, who in his pre-talk provided basic knowledge of ARM

processors which are of low power and high speed processors

and hence extensively used in smart phones, set top boxes,

tabs, printers and other electronic gadgets. Topics like

Introduction to ARM processor, CORTEX M0, LPC1114

ARM processor, LPC-Xpresso hardware details and

Schematic analysis were covered by Mr.S. Venkata Ramana,

Trainer, Easy ARM, Bengaluru followed by practical sessions

on LPC-Xpresso IDE. Mr.P.S.S.N Patnaik, Trainer, IGIAT,

Visakhapatnam coordinated the entire program.

MISSION R & D ORIENTATION

PROGRAM

Mission R & D Orientation program for the Pre- final year

students of CSE and IT was conducted by Sri Perraju

Bendapudi, Par tner Architect of Microsoft India

(Hyderabad) on 19th July 2013. About 50 students were

selected for 9 months online training program followed by

6-weeks of face-to-face rigorous training program.

WORKSHOP ON ‘GSM SYSTEMS’

A one-day workshop was conducted on 13th July 2013

on ‘GSM System’ organized by ANITS Communication

Engineers Society (ACES) and IETE. This program was

presided by Dr.K.Murali Krishna, HOD, Department of

ECE. Dr.K.Murali Krishna in his pre-talk mentioned the

constructive features of the workshop for students and

faculty. Mr.Raghavendra, Techno vision Pvt Ltd.,

Bengaluru gave an account on GSM technology and its

application, detailing the experiments using GSM kit.

VICTIMS - A DAY’S SALARY DONATED

The teaching and non-teaching staff of ANITS donated

a day’s salary to the flood victims of Uttarakhand, while the

students of ANITS also liberally made a contribution to boost

the relief fund. The total amounted to Rs. 2, 15,690. A

corresponding amount of the same was contributed by the

Management of ANITS for this noble cause. Thus the total

amount of Rs. 4,31,380 had been handed-over by the

Secretary of ANITS Mr.V. Thapovardhan through Demand

Draft drawn in favour of Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to

Shri. Ganta Srinivasa Rao Garu, Hon’ble Minister of

Infrastructure & Investment and Ports, Airports, Natural Gas

Government of Andhra Pradesh, INDIA, to help victims of

the massive flooding in Uttarakhand State.

SEMINAR ON CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FORENGINEERING GRADUATES

A Seminar on ‘Career Opportunities for EngineeringGraduates & How to reach heights in life’ was conducted byMr. Mr Kishore Kumar, CAT All India Topper & founder ofKISH CAT CLASSES on 28th Jun 2013 for pre-final yearstudents of CSE, ECE and EEE and a similar seminar wasorganized by the training and placement cell on 4th Jul 2013for all the students of pre-final year students by Mr. J V Murthy,Director of TIME (Visakhapatnam). The session was an eye-opener which gave an opportunity for the students to gainknowledge of engineering career advice, fundamentals forover all development of an engineer, apart from learning aboutthe prospects that lay to the fore.

SEMINAR ON ‘OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER

AND HIGHER EDUCATION FOR ENGINEERING

GRADUATES’

Mr. Mohamed Abdullah, Director of Conduira Education and

Service Ltd. (Visakhapatnam) conducted a seminar on

‘Opportunities for Career and Higher Education for

Engineering Graduates’ on 25th Jul 2013 for the pre-final year

students of all branches. The seminar promoted awareness

of the wide-ranging educational opportunities available to the

students before making crucial decisions.

CODE UNCODE-NATIONAL SECURE

PROGRAMMING

COMPETITION BY EC COUNCIL

Over 181 students from the Departments of CSE, IT&MCA

participated in the preliminary round of Code Uncode, a

coding contest on 6th of July, 2013. The contest was held

under the coordination of Mr. Ratan Kumar, Associate

Professor, Dept of CSE, Mr. M. Kranthi Kiran, Asst. Professor,

Dept of CSE and Mr. Ch.D. Naidu, Sr. Asst. Prof., Coordinator

for IT & MCA. Code Uncode, India’s first ever countrywide

search for the best secure programmer, an initiative launched

by EC- Council has witnessed large participation from the

students. It is an online competition in which the participants

are provided with an online questionnaire based on their

domain knowledge of Secure Programming and they are

tested on their ability to design secure programs. There are

multiple choice questions and the participants have to score

the maximum in a limited period of time. The criterion to

qualify the next round of the competition is to score maximum

correct answers in the shortest period of time. In this a total

of 25 members from the departments of CSE, IT and MCA

from ANITS were selected for Semi Finals after competing

with students from top engineering colleges and professionals

across India.

INDUSTRIAL TRAINING FOR III/IV ECE

The Department of ECE conducted Industrial Training

Program of 4 weeks duration for the students of III/IV ECE

(2010-2014) during May-June 2013. As a part of this program,

the students were trained in various industries like ECIL,

BHEL, Visakha Steel Plant, BSNL, AIR, HSL and ITI

Bangalore which is an opportunity for promising engineers

to gain direct hands-on experience.

‘CHEMICAL ENGINEER-AN ALL ROUND

ENGINEER’ GUEST LECTURE BY MR. R V RAO

Department of Chemical Engineering and

Biotechnology organized an invited talk by Mr. R V Rao,

Divisional Manager, Ramsis Engineering, Bahrain on

‘Chemical Engineer-an all round Engineer’. Mr. R V Rao in

his keynote address enlightened the students of the

Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology on

how one can relate and apply ones software skills in Chemical

Engineering to develop new tools which will subsequently

widen their horizon of knowledge. Importance of conceptual

knowledge and essentiality of prioritizing social service over

making money were also widely conveyed during this session.

This guest lecture was attended by Prof. V S R K Prasad,

Principal of ANITS, HOD, faculty and the students of the

Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.

INTERNSHIPS

• Mr. Anudeep N of IV/IV from the Department of CSE

got an internship at Direct Internet Solutions Private Limited,

Mumbai for two months (June and July, 2013) for his project

titled 'Statistical Captcha' to detect fake clicks and decrease

the click fraud and improve analytics. He was even offered a

job in that company and we congratulate him on this

achievement.

• Mr. Dutt, Mr. K Udey Ganesh and Ms. K Sri Lalitha Vasavi

III/IV CSE got an internship in IIT, Delhi to work under the

able guidance of Prof P K Panigrahi, Dept. of Electrical

Engineering. These students were recommended by Dr S C

Satapathy, HOD, CSE and gained the prospects of working

with the renowned IEEE or ACM like journals.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

� Mr.B.Ajay Kumar, ECE (2009-2013) got admission for

International Graduate Program Master of Science in

Communications Engineering (MSCE) in the Technical

University of Munich (TUM), Munich, Germany.

� Mr.G.V.S.Reddy III/IV ECE has successfully completed

IBM Software training under the Career Education

Program during 27th May 2013 to 15th June 2013.

� Ms. Ch.Yesesri of B.Tech IV/IV Biotechnology completed

her Summer Research Training from 5th May to 6th July

at NOVOZYMES Pvt Ltd, Bangalore.

� Ms.Krishi Teja, IV/IV IT has successfully completed the

requirements to be recognized as a ‘Microsoft Certified

Technology Specialist :Windows 7 Configuration’ by

Microsoft

Management at FMC Technologies and KBR Adjunct

Professor of Subsea Engineering at University of Houston,

Texas presented an informative guest lecture on ‘Need for

Industry Ready Education’ at ANITS on July 16th 2013. Dr.

Phandeendra explained the novel teaching technique and

‘Reverse Circular Teaching Technique’ developed by him

which has facilitated better understanding of the subject. This

event was attended by the Professors from all the

departments, HODs, faculty and the students of Mechanical

Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology.

Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology & Sciences (ANITS) celebrated

67th Independence Day at the College premises. After hoisting the flag,

the Principal Prof. V.S.R.K. Prasad addressed the gathering and paid

tributes to all the warriors who were instrumental in achieving

independence to our nation. On this occasion he said that India was

witnessing a period of crisis, and intellectuals and young students can

create a society free from corruption. He also added that they ought to

be instrumental in bringing awareness among the people that only

deserving should accept any form of subsidies and others should be

guided to say ‘no’ to any free aid and offerings. In his concluding remarks

he wished that all the ANITIANS should work for corruption-free society

where the fruits of technology can reach the common man comfortably.

KBR ADJUNCT PROFESSOR'S VISIT ALUMNI INTERACTION SESSION

The Dept. of EEE conducted a series of interactive sessions

on 2nd, 3rd and 5th July, 2013 with their Alumni, which

helped in the healthy bonding between the current students

and their seniors. The queries were answered, views were

corroborated and quality time was spent with a meaningful

conversation. Advice on further education, and other useful

insights needed for a potential career were provided. The

students were gladdened and bolstered by the words of insight

and knowledge shared by the alumni.

A summer school on ‘Electronic Devices and Applications’

was conducted in the campus from 13th-19th June 2013 by

the Department of ECE for the students entering their second

year of engineering. The session proffered unique opportunity

for the students where they were educated about basics,

operation and applications of Electronic Devices and more

emphasis was given on the practical sessions on Cathode

Ray Oscilloscope, Television and RADIO.

A guest lecture on ‘Rapid Prototyping & Nano Technology

Overview’ was organized by Department of Mechanical

Engineering, ANITS on July 10th 2013 intending to make

students conversant with emerging technologies. Dr. P.N.Rao

from University of IOWA carried out a one- day interactive

session with about 250 students. ‘Green Technologies’ a

Faculty Development Programme was organized on the same

day by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in which

Dr. P.N.Rao has imparted knowledge on the most up-to-date

technologies in the field of research. Dr. T.V. Hanumantha

Rao, HOD of Mechanical Engineering who was also present

in the workshop drew attention on the importance of these

kinds of workshops that provides means to create an intensive

educational experience.
