Larva

The larvae bore in to a kernel which they hollow out completely in the course of development

Page 7: Angoumois grain moth

Pupa

Pupation also takes place inside the kernel. Before pupation, the larva extends the anterior of its chamber to just beneath the surface of the grain, thus forming a small circular window.

Page 8: Angoumois grain moth

The newly emerged adult pushes through the window of the seed coat leaving a small but characteristic round hole; part of the window often remains at the edge of the hole.

Harvesting and drying

Grain moisture content (12-14%)

Minimize cracked and broken grain during processing

Don’t mix old and new grain

Cleaning And Disinfesting The Storage System

By sanitation or hygiene Use of monitoring devices May need to treat with insecticide

Malathion (50EC) at 5ml/20l of water @20ml/m2,

Fenitrothion (50EC) at 5ml/l water @20ml/m2,

Deltamethrin (2.5% WP) at 1.5g/l water @20ml/m2
