Access to ARU's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)The Anglia Ruskin University VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) is an online learning platform that supports all taught modules.

It contains module information, guides, lecture notes, discussions and reading lists. It is the principal form of asynchronous teaching delivery for all ARU Distance Learning Courses.

Dr Abi HuntHead of Department for Marketing, Enterprise, and Tourism

The BA (Hons) Marketing presents a

unique opportunity to students. It covers many of the key areas of marketing, including marketing communications and business-to-business. This course provides the knowledge and capabilities associated with international marketing, while giving its graduates a competitive edge in the marketplace. In 2012/13 the course received a 93% National Student Survey (NSS) satisfaction rating, among the top twelve in Anglia Ruskin. This demonstrates how well received the current course is among students. In short, the course equips students with the transferable skills required to workin a wide range of marketing roles."

Dr Ian OxfordDeputy Head of Computing and Technology; Course Group Leader for Computer Science

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science degree is a well-established and successful

course which was designed and is continually updated in conjunction with industrial partners through our Employer Advisory Group. It has a strong emphasis on hands on practical and transferable skills in a range of areas including software engineering, networking and cloud technologies, computer security, distributed databases and human computer interaction making graduates from the course very employable (recent statistics show that around 80% of our students go on to professional employment or to study for higher degrees). The course team is looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with HELP CAT and to help them deliver a course as successful as it is at our Cambridge Campus."

Course OverviewAll areas of business and commerce are becoming increasingly reliant on effective information systems. Information is the resource that now drives business. This course will introduce and develop your knowledge of information processing and information systems, and specifically how these concepts are applied within commercial organisations.

The focus is upon giving students a range of skills relevant to today's IT industry, and specifically to business information systems. It will also develop in students a creative and flexible approach to problem solving, and the ability to deliver practical solutions to a range of challenges – all skills highly valued by employers across the industry.

Course OverviewComputing is changing our world, the way we work, the way we live. To study computer science is to put ourselves at the forefront not just of technological change but of social change as well. This course examines the principles and technologies underpinning the systems that are driving this change. It provides an opportunity to learn about these directly through a combination of work-based learning and in the classroom.

The field of computer science offers a wealth of opportunity across a range of specialist fields. The variety of course options on offer means that you can fine-tune your degree to focus on particular areas of interest or to meet the requirements of a favoured career.

BUSINESS Ms Esther Hon Shil HongMBA (CSturt), MAF (HELP)Head, Centre for Business Programmes

As head of the Centre for Business Programmes at HELP CAT, Ms Hon oversees and manages operations, academic matters, student activities and programme compliance. Ms Hon has more than twenty years of working experience in several industries. Starting from an accountancy background, she gained corporate experience in finance, human resource and marketing, with administrative and managerial responsibilities. She has also worked in China where she provided advisory services to a company in Beijing to structure the operational framework and policies as part of its initial proposed listing exercise.

Dr Ng Chee HengBEd Hons (USM), MSc, PhD (UPM)Lecturer

Dr Ng has been in the teaching profession and administration for 18

years before he joined the private higher education sector. He was a senior lecturer at Stamford College and was the Assistant General Manager of the Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). At HELP CAT, Dr Ng oversees the ARU business programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Karen Lee has been in the academic industry for more than 18 years. Helen Pereira cross teaches in the ARU, American Degree Program and Culinary Arts departments at the undergraduate and diploma level at HELP CAT. Her specialist areas are HRM, Strategic

HRM, Management, International HRM, International Business, International Management, Business Development and Leadership and Marketing. She has 18 years of teaching experience. Before entering academia, Ms Pereira had four years of industrial experience in the private sector. In the course of her work, she developed training modules in human resource management and marketing. She has also provided training sessions in the areas of human resource management and customer services.

Mr Vasan Varathan brings to his appointment as lecturer at HELP

CAT an extensive corporate experience in banking, having served two major banks for over 10 years in business outsourcing from Europe to the Asian region. Mr Kunusilin has over 17 years of experience teaching HRM,

As the course leader of the Anglia Ruskin University IT programmes, Mr David supervises final year projects and oversees the IT internship programme. Prior to joining HELP CAT, John worked in the software industry for over 20 years. His expertise includes Project Management, IT Quality Assurance, IT Market Research, Competitor Intelligence, and Client/Partner Management. He also worked in the US for 11 years as Project Manager for the US Supreme Court Payroll and Personnel System, and as an IT defence contractor for the US Navy, Army, and the US Coast Guard. In

Malaysia, he has worked for multinational companies supplying ERP systems all over the world through traditional and online channels. John’s interests are in Cloud Computing, Big Data and IT Project Management.

Ms Vasugi Jayamangalam RajooBSc (Chemistry), PGDCA, MCA (Computer Applications) (Madras)Senior Lecturer

Ms Vasugi has been with HELP College of Arts and Technology for over 5 years. Prior to joining HELP CAT, Ms Vasugi worked extensively in the commercial software development field, particularly in design, for multinational companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan. She specializes in programming, especially in VB, .NET, Databases and Project Management. Ms Vasugi has lectured in Object-Oriented System Design, Database Technology, Professional Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering at the undergraduate level. Her research interest includes Information Security and Semantic Web/Database.

Ms Faridah binti Abdul RahmanBSc Eng-IT (De Montfort), MSc (UiTM) Lecturer

Faridah teaches Computer Science and Business Information System subjects including C#, Data Structures and Object Oriented C++ for the Anglia Ruskin University IT programmes at HELP CAT. She also supervises final-year projects and students who are on internships. Prior to joining HELP CAT, Faridah taught at private institutions for more than 12 years. She has also taught Information Technology and Computer Science subjects for diploma and twinning programmes with public universities like University Technology Malaysia and University Putra Malaysia.

Mr Shyam Sunder PalleBSc, MComp Applic (Kakatiya, India), MTech (Jawaharlal Nehru TU)Lecturer

Shyam teaches Computer Science and Business Information Systems in the ARU programmes. He is also a supervisor for final year projects and internship students. Shyam has nearly 10 years of experience teaching many computer science subjects in educational institutions. His research interests are Software Engineering, Cloud Computing and Software Quality Assurance and Security.

Dr Mohamad DabbaghBSc Software Eng, MSc Software Eng (Islamic Azad, Iran), PhD (Malaya)Lecturer

Dr Mohammad conducts lectures, tutorials, and practicals for many subjects for the Computer Science and Business Information Systems segments in HELP CAT’s Anglia Ruskin University collaboration. He also supervises final year students’ projects. Dr Mohammad acquired valuable working experience as a researcher for more than three years at the University of Malaya. His research interests span a broad range of topics, including software requirements engineering, empirical software engineering, Internet of Things, and software traceability. This is evidenced by the number of research articles which have been published in international journals and conferences such as IEEE Transactions on Reliability and Soft Computing.

Dr Mehdi JahaniradBIT (MMU), MSc (Comp Sc), PhD (Malaya)Lecturer

Dr Mehdi Jahanirad oversees the networking and image processing subjects for the Computer Science and Business Information Systems programmes. Dr Jahanirad received his PhD in Multimedia Forensics, and his MSc Computer Science in Data Communication and Computer Networks from the University of Malaya. He completed his Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) degree from Multimedia University, Malaysia. Dr Jahanirad's research interests include multimedia security, multimedia forensics, data mining, machine learning and mathematical techniques in signal processing. He has published and read research papers in high ranking journals and at conferences. Dr Jahanirad also has a registered Malaysian Patent for the Blind Source Mobile Device Identification based on Recorded Call Prototype.

Dr Than’s broad academic experience spans over 33 years in both public and private educational institutions prior to joining HELP CAT. He has taught a range of subjects in the areas of Thermofluids, Heat Transfer and Solid Mechanics. Dr Than has provided technical expertise and consultancy services to private and semi-government firms. He has published and presented papers on solar energy, fluid flow, heat transfer and fire safety in local and international journals and conferences.

Dr Tan Hock MengBSc First Class Hons (Elect) (Imperial), PhD (Cantab), Dip Mgt (MIM), MIET, CEng (UK)Senior Lecturer

Dr Tan is an electrical engineer with over 30 years of management experience in companies such as Hewlett Packard, Nilsen Electric and Texchem-Pack. His has taught at Stamford College, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and HELP University; subjects include Manufacturing Strategy, and Project Management & Product Development at undergraduate level and Global ICT Management at postgraduate level. Dr Tan has provided technical expertise and consultancy services in ISO implementation and Management Resource Planning. His current research interest is Advanced Manufacturing.

Mr David Lee is an electrical engineer whose lecturing career began at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia (1 year) and continued at the University of Malaya (1972-1979). He served in various management consulting capacities for 25 years in companies such as Arthur Andersen, Computer Systems Advisers, Malaysia and DLS Systems. Mr Lee has taught a broad range of subjects including Project Management, Control Systems, Electrical & Electronics Theory, Data Acquisition & Control Systems, Electrical Engineering & Power Control, Physical Electronics, Circuit Theory and Power Electronics & Drives. His current research interest is Total Quality Management.

Ms Krishnawathy SubramaniamBEng (CAD/CAM) (Malaya), MSc (Manufacturing Eng) (LJMU)Lecturer

Ms Krishnawathy worked as a product development engineer in Chubb Malaysia from 2005 to 2010 and has provided consulting services in areas like ERP, TQM, Lean Manufacturing and Product Development. She later held lecturing appointments in the private education sector. She has taught subjects like Statics, Dynamics and Manufacturing Processes. At HELP College of Arts and Technology, she heads the internship committee and is coordinator of the Anglia Ruskin University programmes.

Dr Chan Ming YengBEng First Class Hons (Polymer Eng), PhD (Materials Eng) (UniMAP)Lecturer

Dr Chan is a materials engineer who has published extensively on composite and polymer materials in international journals with a high citation and impact factor. She has won many awards in innovation and exhibition fairs at the national and international levels. She has taught courses on Engineering Materials and Processes in diploma and degree programmes.

Ms Jade Lee Ng AiBEng, First Class Hons (EEE) (UNITEN), MEng (Electrical Energy and Power Systems) (Malaya)Lecturer

Ms Jade Lee was a R&D engineer in Panasonic AVC Networks KL from 2003 to 2005. She later held lecturing appointments in various private education institutions, teaching subjects like Electrical and Communications Engineering, Electromagnetic Fields and Machines, Power Electronics, Digital Electronics and C-Programming before joining HELP College of Arts and Technology. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Electrical Power Transfer.

Ir Tang Soo HaCEI Parts I & II, MSc (Manufacturing Systems Eng) (Warwick), PGDip (Fuel Technology) (Middlesex Poly), PEng, KMN

Senior Lecturer

Ir Tang is a Mechanical Engineer whose broad teaching and administration experience spans over 35 years in technical institutes and polytechnics in Malaysia such as Penang Technical Institute, Ungku Omar Polytechnic, Sultan Abdul Halim Polytechnic and Kuching Polytechnic. He taught Dynamics, Instrumentation and Controls in the Hertfordshire University Mechanical Engineering franchise programme in HICT (now HELP CAT). He teaches Workshop Practice in the HELP CAT diploma programmes and Manufacturing in the Anglia Ruskin University degree programmes at HELP CAT. He is a regular examiner for the professional exams of the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
