Welcome to our place... Every child should have opportunity for physical development and learning in a natural environment.

With over 20 years’ experience, we tailor outdoor learning activities to help develop students’ communication skills, team work and self-esteem. Our fully qualified instructors are highly experienced and passionate outdoorsy experts who are lots of fun!

Canoe in Lancashire’s “Mini Lake District” Our charity-run outdoor learning centre has exclusive access to Lower Rivington reservoir which at approximately 2km long is the largest body of water for sailing and leisure in Lancashire; within an hour’s journey from Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside.

Outdoor Adventurous Activity Our Primary School Adventure Programme aims to practise and contextualise 2014 Primary Curriculum subject content in an engaging outdoor learning environment, with progressive routes through the years that increases physical activity and academic challenge whilst avoiding repetition. Please get in touch to get a quote and discuss your aims.

We are very flexible and can build any activities into a day or half day trip according to how themes fall through the school year. We can also deliver KS2 outdoor learning with physical challenge and adventure as fun-packed residentials from Year 4 upwards.

There’s plenty to discover and explore in our stunning woodland site (a protected conservation area). We’ve got lots and lots of trees, bushes and hidey holes to let imaginations and little feet run wild! To mirror the school day we’ve built a short break into each 2 ½ hour session.

About UsWe are an outdoor learning and conference centre run by a charity - Lancashire Outdoor Activities Initiative (LOAI). LOAI has been encouraging schools, children and young people, families, youth and community groups to take part in and benefit from outdoor activities since 1989.

The Anderton Centre was originally run as a conference and training centre by United Utilities, who invited LOAI to run land-based activities in their grounds and sailing/water activities on the reservoir. In 2009 the charity took over the running of the Anderton Centre which meant we were able to offer fully catered residentials as well as day trips. We continue to work in partnership with United Utilities who still own the land and reservoirs. The Anderton Centre has exclusive use of lower Rivington reservoir for water-based activities.

Get in touch!Contact us to discuss how we can dovetail our expertise in outdoor learning with your schemes of work. Our charity-run centre can support your teaching and learning team in enriching childhoods and developing active children - investing in skills that last students a lifetime.
