BOOK OF ISAIAH - FALL SCRIPTURE STUDY

Who was the prophet Isaiah and why was his message so important for the people of Israel in the 8th century B.C.?

Just as important, what does Isaiah have to say to us today? Isaiah was one of the major prophets of the Old Testament whose writings are an

integral part of our Sunday readings during the season of Advent. It will be enlightening for us to focus on Isaiah in our Scripture Study from September

through December as we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth at Christ-mas. We will meet Isaiah in our study and wrestle with his challenging, yet hope-

ful, message for his own people and also for us today. Our Scripture Study will be offered twice each week, on

Mon. evenings, 7pm – 8:30 pm (JPII, 1st Fl)

& repeated on Thurs. mornings, 9am – 10:30 am (Library)

All are welcome. For further information, call Mary Ann Andel at 987-9312 x 250.

LECTIO – PRAYER: FINDING INTIMACY WITH GOD

Does prayer ever seem like a one-sided conversation? Prayer is essential to a thriving faith, yet we often feel as if we’re talking to ourselves. Or worse, like we’re talking to no one at all. How can something so vital to the faith be so elusive?

The answers are here. Renowned teacher Dr. Tim Gray masterfully uses the Church’s tradition of Lectio Divina to show us the simple steps for making prayer a conversation of love and intimacy with God. Prayer: Finding Intimacy with God captures the secret to opening our hearts and minds to Scripture as the means to hear God and then respond in conversation – basking in His presence and resolving to live in and through His love.

Materials fee is $25 and includes a thorough study guide.

For questions or to register, contact Jenny Campbell at 909-987-9312.

The same session is offered at 2 different times each Wednesday:

Wednesday mornings 9:00 – 10:30 AM (upstairs JPII) Wednesday evenings 7:00 – 8:30 PM (upstairs JPII)

Tagalog Corner 1 Timothy 6:11-12

(But you, man of God, pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience and gentleness. Compete will for the faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called when you made the noble confession in the presence of many witnesses.)

Adult Confirmation & Ongoing Faith Formation

To be fully initiated into our Catholic Faith, it is necessary for a person to have received the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. Often, be-cause of various life circumstances, a baptized Catholic may not have had the opportunity to complete this initiation process during the usual elementary and high school years. Now, as an adult Catholic, this person may have little under-standing of our Catholic Faith or what it means to live a Catholic life. In our Adult Confirmation classes, our focus is to provide an adult understanding of the basic teachings of our Catholic Faith so that a baptized Catholic can mean-ingfully prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation – and the sacraments of Rec-onciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion), if necessary, to complete sacramental Initiation. However, our sessions are always open to any adults who would like an updated understanding of the teachings of our Church, even if there is no need to prepare for sacraments. We will address those serious ques-tions about being Catholic that sometimes come to mind – questions for which some may not have answers or the means to find those answers. It is both a privilege and a challenge to live as a Catholic Christian in a world that seems to have little focus on God; prayer and spirituality; Christian moral val-ues; and responsibility for and to others, as Christ would have us do. It is so important that we understand our adult commitment to live out our Baptismal call to serve in the name of Christ and to live as active disciples of Jesus, who calls to each of us, “Come and follow me.” All adults are welcome to join us for education and formation in our Catholic Faith and to learn more about what it means to truly live as Catholic Christians in our world today. Our sessions meet on Thursday evenings (September thru June) began on Sept. 15th-7-9pm in the Religious Education area of the John Paul II Cen-

ter. For further information, please call Mary Ann Andel, Coordi-nator of Adult Faith Formation at 987-9312 x 250.

We meet next on - Sat. Oct. 1st @ 11am

At Heart of Mary we gather for a morning of faith sharing

and friendship!

Praying for Donations The Prayer Shawl Ministry is in need of donations to keep the ministry active. The ministers purchase their own materials, which can be very costly. Donations or monetary donations, with Prayer Shawl Ministry noted, would be appreciated. These Prayer Shawls are creat-ed to be a comfort for those suffering and in need of healing. The Ministers pray throughout the making of the shawl or lap blanket, and then have the items blessed by our priests before deliver-ing to the recipient. Prayer Shawl Ministers share their time, talent and service, as an act of prayer for healing, peace and God’s loving presence. Please bring your dona-tions to Debby Leonardo, Pastoral Care, in the Parish Office. If there are any questions, please contact Anne Napolitano 909-935-9080. Thank you and May God Bless you for your support….

Pope Francis reminds us that “A population that does not take care of the elderly and of the children and the young has no future, because it abuses both its memory and its promise.” On October 1, 2, 2016, our parish will have the opportunity to contribute to the Life-Saving work of our Diocesan Respect Life & Pastoral Care Ministry. Your gift can make a difference and help save lives throughout our community, to shine the light of the Gospel of Life on a hurting world. What is a jubilee year? Dec. 8, 2015—Nov. 20, 2016 The practice of a jubilee year has ancient roots in the Jewish tradition and evidence for it can be found in the Old Testament (for example, see Leviticus 25). The jubilee year was called every fifty years and was a time for forgiveness. It stood as a reminder of God's providence and mercy. The dedication of a year for this emphasis provided the community with a time to come back into right relationship with one another and with God. As the practice of the jubilee year was adopted into the Catholic Church, these themes of mercy, forgiveness, and solidarity continued.

RCIA - RITE Of CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

Is God calling you to become Catholic? It begins with an awareness...or stirring in one’s heart for something more. It could be a curiosity or a sense of long for fulfillment. Maybe it’s God calling you to explore the life of faith, love, and justice within the community of the Catholic Church. The RCIA process offers an opportunity for you to learn and ask ques-tions about the Catholic faith. It is primarily for the un-baptized, but also includes a special tract for those baptized in another faith tradition. We also invite inquiring Catholics to also come and join us for refreshers on what they learned as children. We meet all year round.

Please come and join us Tuesday evenings from 7:30PM to 9:30PM in

the Parish Library.

For more information on the process, please call Danny or Vicki Centurioni

(RCIA) Adapted for Children and Teens Children (ages 7-12) and Teens (ages 13-17) who are interested in joining the Catholic Church are invited to participate in the RCIA adapted for Children and Teens. The goal is to provide a means of conversion suited to the student’s age and understanding, and to prepare them for the reception of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation). Parents and sponsors share a loving journey with the student’s by attending sessions with them and assisting them as they learn about Jesus and the Church, and ensuring that they experience a Catholic environment in the home. To participate more fully in this journey, we encouraged you to attend scheduled retreats, weekly Mass, special cele-brations, and the Easter Liturgy. Our sessions begin in September and end in June.

Sessions held every Wed.6-7:30 pm. – (JPII, 2nd Fl) Feel free to contact us anytime throughout the year for program information

Tony Mandala at (909) 987-9312 ex. 231 RCIA - TEACHING MOMENTS:

What is the meaning of the Chi-Rho symbol ? This is called a Chi-Rho. Chi and Rho are the first two letters (ΧΡ) of "Christ" in Greek ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christos). Sometimes it is called the Monogram of Christ or Chris-mon or Labarum. While it was used very early by perse-

cuted Christians in the catacombs, when Constantine I was struggling to be-come emperor, he used the symbol at the front of his armies and was victori-ous. The Chi-Rho is often shown with the Greek letters Alpha (A) and Omega (lower case ώ or upper case Ω), the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Jesus refers to himself: "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:13). The Chi-Rho is often on vestments used by the Priest’s, since they represent Christ (Inpersona Christi) at Holy Mass.

Catholic Faith-Based Grief Support Group

Christ reminds us in the Sermon on the Mount: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”

(Matthew 5:4) Losing a loved one is perhaps the most painful and overwhelming of life's experiences. It challenges you physically and emotionally and raises ques-tions about the future -- about where God is in the midst of your pain. Our Heavenly Father wants us to find consolation in His loving arms. You don’t have to walk this journey alone, there is hope. With the encouragement of our Grief Support Group, you will begin to form an understanding and healing of many emotions. Join us as we search for God’s Healing Love and Comfort, as you share with others, who have experienced loss and loneliness.

Respect Life Family Rosary

Every 4th Monday of the month

Next rosary September 26 For information: Deborah (909) 240-6419 Sacrament of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Sick is a Sacrament offered by the Church for healing in sick-ness. This sickness may be physical, mental or emotional. Anyone of any age can receive the Sacrament as often as needed, but not usually not less than a 3 month period. Unfortunately, many still refer to this Sacrament as the “Last Rites” and often call the parish for a priest when an individual is critical and close to end of life. The Church has not used the term “Last Rites” since the Vatican II Council; asking the faithful to call for a priest when in the need of Healing. One of the realities of the Church today is a priest shortage. If a call is made to the Church for the Sacrament, when someone is close to the end of life, there might not be enough time for a priest to reach the person prior to them passing away, or a priest might not be available, at that important moment. Only a priest can offer the Sacrament of the Sick. A Deacon is not permitted to administer the rite of this Sacrament because it includes the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Church will do everything possible, in case of an emergency. However, it may be difficult if it is “last minute”. May this be a reminder to take ad-vantage of the healing Sacraments of the Church ~ For Sacrament of the Sick … Please contact the Parish Office at 909-987-9312 During hours the office is closed, call 909-532-3312 for Emergencies

A Warm Welcome to All - You enter this Church, not as a stranger, but as a guest of God. As a baptized person, you enter it as a son or daughter of the Fa-ther united with our brother, Jesus Christ. As a non-baptized person, come in as a wonderful creature of God. This House of God, therefore, is your family home. Come in with humility of mind; come in with joy of heart; and come with gratitude on your lips for God’s mercies. Come in and pause in prayerful silence, so that, in the midst of a busy and worrisome life, you may find peace and comfort.

"And I will pour on the House of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication;

than they will look on me whom they have pierced.

Zechariah 12:10

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of supplication.

He receives your prayers and presents them to the Father.

Many of us feel as if we don't know how to pray.

But the Holy Spirit helps us pray because the Spirit Himself

makes intercession for us. Romans 8:26

Please join us

Tuesday evenings in the Chapel 7-8:30pm for praise,

worship and prayer.

All are welcome.
