What is your first memory you can link back to being attracted to design?

01Paul loved to draw at school.

His report card said: “Paul would do better if he applied himself and stopped drawing”.

What is your general perception of the current state of the design industry?

02Where it is: Elitist but also cheap. It is mixed.

Where is it moving: Graphic design is moving.into a social space. But it’s confused.

03The design look is changing but the design principles are the same.

Bad: Expect to be taught on the job.Struggle to adapt to live client’sneeds and budget.

08Really well. Everyone wants to be in Melbourne.Everyone thinks hipsters are cool.

We charge more than Sydney, we have more studios and we have more work coming in.

Any Advice forgrAduAting students?

101. Tailor your application. 2. Go for what you like.3. Be friendly. 4. Don’t use Microsoft word for your resume. 5. Choose studios just like you would choose your boyfriend or girlfriend.6. Most studios don’t advertise. 7. You’re not a junior designer, You’re a designer.

Your thoughts on self Promotional Pieces?

11They are usually wanky and self absorbed.Need to be targeted and specific to a brand.Be selective, “it’s about targets not missiles”.

Do you think an internship is vital?

“You don’t get taught, you just fill a seat and get paid in burritos”. However Jackie was ok with this.
