SCHOOL BOARDSCHOOL BOARD

The fundamental purpose of a School Board is to enable parents and members of the school community to engage in activities that are in the best interests of the students and that will enhance the education provided by the school. Some of the functions include: · The selection and approval of school priorities · Input into school policies · Approval of student personal item list (booklist etc.) · Determining the amount of voluntary contributions parents are asked to pay.

The Aveley Primary School Board had their first meeting for 2017 earlier this week. Discussions and decisions included an update of what was happening at school (buildings, staffing etc.), looking at our Delivery and Performance Agreement (DPA) and some discussion around the parking issues around our school site.

Our School Board meets twice a term. If you would appreciate the opportunity to raise an agenda item for discussion at a School Board Meeting, please contact a member of the Board.

Thank you to the following members for their ongoing support as School Board Members for 2016. Michelle Del Nero (Chair) Parent Representative Krysta Bingham Parent Representative Laura Lambert Parent Representative Kerry Smith Parent Representative TBA Parent Representative Chris Spencer Staff Representative Mitchell Harvie Staff Representative Michelle Murray Principal Due to a resignation, we are currently seeking an additional Parent Representative on our Board. If you are interested, please contact our front office for a Nomination Form. Nominations close Friday 9am Friday 24 February for this position.

FITNESS TRACKFITNESS TRACK

Thank you to our Aveley Primary School P & C for their efforts to support the purchase and installation of the fitness track. The funding for the track ($26,000) was raised through the P & C’s Maggie Dent fundraiser in 2015 and the successful Stronger Communities Program grant received in 2016. The fitness track is located near the cricket nets on Turkich Pde and is open to the wider community.

BUSHLAND ART INCURSIBUSHLAND ART INCURSION TUESDAY, 7 MARCHON TUESDAY, 7 MARCH

‘Bringing drawings to life’ Ecologist Mandy Bamford (the flora and fauna expert!) will be visiting APS with natural bushland items and even some live animals. She will be inspiring students and demonstrating how to draw bushland scenes, animals and plants and bring these drawings to life. Mandy will also be talking about local threatened species, particularly the black cockatoo and Western Swamp Tortoise. Classes from PP to Year 5 will be participating in this free incursion. Students will also be creating an artwork over

the next few weeks that will be displayed at The Gallery in Ellenbrook from 20 March to 25 April.

Ms Tanya Solig - Art Specialist Teacher

Firstly to begin our 2017 year we would like to extend a huge Thank You to the 2016 Committee for all of their time and hard

work throughout last year.

On Monday, 6 February the 2017 AGM was held and a new committee was formed and saw 3 new positions added, being a

Canteen Co-Ordinator, Fundraising Co-Ordinator and Volunteer Co-Ordinator. The members are:

President – Laura Lambert

Vice President – Renee Jones

Treasurer – Helen Robinson

Secretary – Renee Jones

Canteen Co-Ordinator – Emma Giblin

Fundraising Co-Ordinator – Helen Robinson

Volunteer Co-Ordinator – Andrea Stone

Additional Executive Committee Members – Kim Pieri, Helen Baker and Catherine Smithson

Additional General Committee Members – Kathleen Smith, Jillian Setchell, Julie Cooper

We as a committee welcome all new members throughout the year and would appreciate any time you are able to offer with

our future fundraisers whether it is 1 hour or 1 day.

The Canteen volunteers have sent out their Term 1 menu and it looks fantastic with plenty of variety and healthy options. If

you are available to help out cooking or serving lunches on a Thursday please contact Emma Giblin.

There are new fundraising ideas in place this year with the very tasty Hot Cross Bun drive, Mothers Day and Fathers Day Stalls, possible Lapathon, a Free Dress Day, Halloween Disco and the ever popular Sausage Sizzles. We look forward to

your support throughout the year.

The next General meeting will be held on Monday, 13 March at 6.00pm in the Staff Room. We would love to see as many of

you there as possible.
