Hazrat Hud (ra)
As I opened the book, I was met with the
majestic palaces and beautiful homes that once
were home to civilised people. But as I read on
I realised that this was not for long. Although
they were living a life of luxury and had deemed
themselves powerful, this would soon lead them
to their fate, and as you read on you realise that
these beautiful homes tumble down and remain
as just ‘traces’.
I had come across the name Hazrat Hud (as)
before but, I could not tell you what he did
for his people. I am lucky to have the series
of Golden Treasures to teach me and nourish
me. I have learnt about the people of ‘Aad’
and their status at the time. I learnt about the
numerous times Hazrat Hud (as) begged them
to come on to the right path or beware of the
consequences.
What happens as a result of their pride and
ignorance gives you goose bumps. Somehow
this extremely short book captures your
attention instantly that you forget you are sitting
in your bed or in your room.
If you are hearing Hazrat Hud’s (as) name
IRUWKHȴUVWWLPHRULILWLVMXVWWRUHIUHVK\RXU
minds- give it a go! It is only 10 pages long and
after a long day at work as a teacher, I truly

This is not from today or since he was
chosen as Khalifatul Masih, but rather,
as far as my memory goes, it has always
been his way to live his life according
to the commandments of Allah.
The same is the case today. However,
ever since the responsibility of Khilafat
was given to him, this has acquired a
new demeanour.
One thing that I have always noted is
WKDW +X]RRU DD b DOZD\V SD\V VSHFLDO
focus on worship; to strictly adhere
to the timings of Salat himself and to
inculcate this in his family. This is such
an aspect of Huzoor’s life that has
always remained etched on my mind.
There were many challenges during
our time in Africa, but beyond the
challenges of the time, what remains

a strong memory is Huzoor’s (aba)
adherence to the five daily prayers. If
WKHUH LV DQ\WKLQJ WKDW+X]RRU DED b KDV
constantly asked us about since
childhood, it is about performing Salat.
His immersion in Salat and his weeping
is exemplary. To completely cut off
from the affairs surrounding him and to
devotedly stand before God is a special
characteristic of Huzoor (aba).
Patience is considered to mean remaining
quiet in times of difficulty. However, the
true definition of patience can be seen in
the person of Huzoor (aba).
When we were in Ghana, the house
WKDWZDV JLYHQ WR+X]RRU DED bZDV QRW
exactly one of comforts. Many problems
were faced whilst living there. There was
an old generator for use at night that
could only be used for three hours at any
one time, and so the three hours would
be spread over a longer period of time,
turning it off frequently and switching
it back on. It would only be used when
necessary. Otherwise, we would try to
make do without it.
No matter the circumstances, we always
saw that not only did he never complain,
but he always found ways of praising Allah
and showing gratitude to Him. This true
definition of patience was one we learnt
from Huzoor (aba).
However, it should be clear that it was

he plans to the best and highest of

He always relied solely on Allah for
favourable outcomes in difficult
circumstances, and along with this trust
in Allah was his habit of hard work. Whilst
living in Africa, whenever there were
difficult situations, for instance when the
roof started to leak or when there was a
shortage of water, he never complained,
nor did he ever speak out about the
unfavourable circumstances and nor did
he feel shame in practically doing work
with his own hands.
Whatever the circumstances, he bore
hardships wholeheartedly. Neither did
he fear any challenge, nor did he allow
us to be fearful. We never saw him fearful
and this was something he expected of
us as well, to never be afraid of anything.

and brave and he has never wanted for
us to have any form of cowardice in us. If
ever we saw fear in him, then it was the
fear of Allah.

A P E R S O N A L A C C O U N T
As instructed, I reported to Huzoor’s office the following morning on 7 May 2018 and upon sitting down I saw that Huzoor was hold-ing a small pocket spiral-bound notepad.
It was the same notepad I had seen Huzoor use on many past occasions. Huzoor would often write some brief notes or points in the notepad which he then utilised as a basis for various speeches and addresses. I was amazed to see that on this occasion Huzoor was not writing in the notepad but was mending it!
The notepad had become frayed and part of it had become de-tached and so Huzoor spent a few minutes carefully patching up the notepad using Sellotape.
Over the years, I have seen countless examples of Huzoor’s sim-plicity and humility and have mentioned some in previous diaries, yet still I was taken aback by this scene.
Here was the Khalifatul Masih, divinely commissioned by Allah the Almighty and who has the weight of the world on his shoulders and whose every moment is precious, diligently reattaching an old notepad.
Rather than asking his office to mend it or to get him a new one, our Khalifa preferred to himself mend the old notepad.
As I saw this scene, I recalled how it is narrated that the Holy Prophet (saw) used to mend his own clothes and live extremely modestly and I was reminded of how in today’s world, it is Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aba) who follows every single aspect of the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (saw) more than any other.
A model of simplicity

My name is Ayrah Mahmood. I am 7 years old and I live in Canada! This is a journal
about my trip to Makkah and Medina. In my winter break of 2018, I went for Umrah in
Saudi Arabia. This journal will also have stories about the places I visited. I hope you will
learn about these places, just like I did!

Once the paint has completely dried, peel the stickers o!.
UPCYCLINGNext time you come across an empty jar, do not throw it
away, because you can creatively recycle it into a beautiful candle showpiece-in just five simple steps!
Gather the supplies that you will need:
Begin by sticking the, stickers onto your jar.
Carefully paint all over the outside of the jar while the stickers are still on. Then, add some glitter again, while the paint is still wet.
Finally, place the candle inside the jar and light it up, with the help of an adult!

FUNOLOGY“Doctor, Doctor I think I ate a pencil; what should I do?”“Use a Pen.”
A man rushed into the doctor’s surgery, jumped onto the doctor’s back and began counting, “One, two, three, four…”“Wait a Minute!” yelled the doctor, struggling to free him-self, “What do you think you are doing?” “Well doctor…” said the eccentric man, “The nurses said, ‘I could count on you.’”
“How old were you on your last birthday?”“Nine.”“I see, you will be ten on your next birthday.”“No, I will be eleven.”‘How can that be?’“I am ten today.”
Mr. and Mrs. Brown had two sons. One was named Mind Your Own Business & the other was named Trouble. One day, the two boys de-
cided to play hide and seek. Trouble hid while Mind Your Own Business counted to one hundred. Mind Your Own Business began looking for
his brother behind garbage cans and bushes. Then he started looking in and under cars until a policeman approached him and asked, “What
are you doing?” “Playing a game” the boy replied.
