How do we write a Publishable Article?

How do we write a Publishable Article?

–Writing an article can be a reality with appropriate efforts and approach.

–Once we decide to write on the topic of our research, the most important factor is to just begin the process!

Research and publication process may be broadly divided in to three main steps:

I Performing the researchII Analyzing the data (results)III Preparing the manuscript

I. Performing a study (research)

What shall I research? – For important discoveries-problem

studied should usually be important.– Dull and banal problems yield dull or

insignificant results.– The problem should be such that it

matters what the answer is!

I. Performing a study (research)

How shall I commence the research?– Have a clear plan for data collection.– A senior mentor could be a good resource to

help guide the research project.– Explore resources and expertise in a variety

of technical and academic areas.

of technical and academic areas.

II. Analysis of data (results)– Science involves formulating and testing hypotheses

which are capable of being proven false by observed data. – The results then may be:EITHER– Cannot support a hypothesis (statistically significant

difference).OR– Can support the null hypothesis (lack of a statistically

significant difference).

III. Prepare publishable manuscript

The goal of this step is to share research results with scientific peers and ultimately, the general public.

Authorship

– Authorship acknowledges the scholars for their work.

– The authors are responsible for the integrity of their published data including its analysis and interpretation.

– The scholar writing and performing the study should be the first author and the mentor could be the senior or last author.

Journal Selection

The issues to be considered include:– Personal Goals– Contribution to the public domain.

Additional issues to consider

1. Audience2. Open Access Charter3. Circulation potential for widest dissemination4. Potential for impact with real time tracking
