Volume 21, Issue 6

They will launch out on their trip to Autlan, Mexico on Sun-day night, July 29 and return on Tuesday night, August 7. Please keep these wonderful folks in your prayers as they encourage the missionaries and pastors in Autlan and as they share the love of Christ with those they meet. And many thanks, once again, to those who are going and those who have supported them through finances and prayer.

ALL-CHURCH BARBEQUE: The last Sunday of August is always our summer barbeque. This year it’s Sunday, August 26th. Plan to be here for food, fun and games for all ages.

Wow! That’s a lot of planning and activity for one summer! All for Christ’s glory and the joy of His church.

Love you all, Pastor Marcus

Summer is here and there’s a lot going on! Praise God for all the plans that are in place. Please pray with me for each opportunity that we have to reach out to our friends and neighbors. Let me outline what’s going on:

CAMP TAPAWINGO: This year we are sending over 30 of our own church kids to the three camps at Camp Tapaw-ingo! That’s a huge praise. Two weeks ago the Middle School Camp finished up suc-cessfully with over 25 kids at the camp praying to receive Christ into their hearts. Last week, Director Annie Willems led the Junior Camp and this week Pastor Bobby will be leading the High School Camp. Please keep all these folks in your prayers.

ROCK SOLID SUMMER CAMP: This year our church is plan-ning our own week of “camp.” It will be a day-camp style

event, focusing on the sport of soccer. Pastor Sorin and Director Annie will be leading this effort as we reach out to kids (Kindergarten through 5th grade) and their families. It will be the week of July 23-27, 9:00 AM-12:00 Noon. We already have over 50 kids signed up! Please pray for this to be a great time of sharing the loving message of Jesus Christ.

RUMMAGE SALE: It’s right around the corner. Get your “stuff” ready! Clean out your house and bring it down to the church. Let’s have some fun with it! Proceeds of the Rummage Sale will go towards our AWANA program, our YOUTH group, and to help offset the cost of putting a new seal coat on our parking lot.

MEXICO MISSION TRIP: Praise God that the team is fully funded and ready to go.

New Children’s Ministries Director...

On behalf of the Children’s Ministries Search Committee and the Elder Board, I would like to share with you that we have hired McKenzie O’Neil as our new Children’s Ministries Director. McKenzie will take over for Director Annie on August 1. McKenzie comes to us as a current teacher of our Riviera Christian School Childcare and has a great love for children. She has been with RCS for two years, during which time she has also been attending West Hills. Her passion is to see boys and girls come into relationship with Jesus Christ and understand His Holy Word. We find in McKenzie a sweet spirit, a deep spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ, a strength for organization and a passion for children. McKenzie is married to Cameron, who has been a part of West Hills for many years. Please welcome McKenzie with open arms and help her to learn your name and get to know your family.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, espe-cially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:9-10

I am feeling blessed, thankful, joyous, etc. to be able to join in the work to bring the love of Jesus to the people around us. Building community by doing good is an important task given to us by the Word.

Home Groups are WHCC in community for caring and for Christian growth. I am looking forward to helping get home groups up and active this fall.

Our Rummage Sale is our church community in action for our local community. Many people are blessed by our affordable prices and by the smiles and warmth of our workers. Even if you have not signed up ahead of time on the list, it is OK to come on down and help!

If you help take care of God’s property, you will have a deep connection with the other workers. I am looking forward to TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) projects after the rummage sale: exterior painting, parking lot surface repair-refreshing, improving the school’s track area, and some deep cleaning on part of the gym floor.

Doing good, in community together, is our future! Praise Jesus!

ALL CHURCH BBQ Sunday, August 26 at Noon

Great food and fun for all ages! Bring a side dish or dessert.

The Missions Team going to Autlan, Mexico this year is very excited. We have wrapped up most of the de-tails and fundraising and are almost ready to go. We will be meeting some old friends and hopefully making some new ones.

This year our group is com-prised of more youth than adults. Many are going to Mexico for the first time. We ask that you pray for safe travels, good health, and God’s presence to move in the hearts of everyone on

the trip as well as the people of Autlan.

We are taking socks, and flip-flops to hand out at the mi-grant camps. The church has been so generous in provid-ing those for this trip. We are excited about being able to bless the kids and families that live in these camps with very little. It’s amazing how much joy they get from such a simple thing as a pair of flip-flops or a pair of socks.

We are putting on a Vacation Bible School at Estrella De Bellen. We are in need of

donations of VBS supplies. Things like paper, crayons, glue, and glitter. If you have some extra please bring them to Church on Sunday or con-tact Kevin Fenn.

We appreciate the support of the Congregation more than you know. Your financial and prayer support make all of this possible. Thank you all again. We look forward to telling you all about the trip when we get back. Have a safe and wonderful summer.

I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High. (Psalm 9:1-2)

Happy Summer, everyone! After all the travelling and subbing for one another, I am looking forward to getting back into the routine of re-hearsing favorite songs and learning new songs that will bless and build the faith of the congregation. As a re-minder, we have a number of

opportunities to get involved with the Worship Team by singing, playing an instru-ment, or serving in the tech booth. If you are curious and would like some more infor-mation, please contact me in the church office or say hi on a Sunday.

Additionally, it's choir time again, and this August will bring our next “worship-leading choir” Sunday. If you have ever considered singing with us in worship, or if you have sung in the past and would like to jump in for one

week, this is the perfect op-portunity. We will sing in church on Sunday, August 12 with a rehearsal on Thursday, August 9 at 7:00 in the Sanc-tuary. I will have a rehearsal CD and some sheet music available the previous Sun-day, August 5 so you can lis-ten and prepare on your own ahead of time. It is always a joy to sing God’s praises with His people, and I hope you will join us.

Men’s Ministries...

Greetings in the Lord to you this day! This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Men’s ministries is putting out feelers for men inter-ested in meeting for coffee and conversation on a weekly or every other week basis. If there is sufficient interest, coffee places and times can be set and we can give it a try. Contact Stan Wiens.

Also this fall, in answer to recommendations of the 20/20 church meetings, we will be undertaking a Bible study based on the “Courageous” movie. It will not be a study for weak men. Such men will not have the heart for the content of the supporting book, “The Reso-lution”. Those who commit to the study will be more accountable in the future. They will be challenged out of their comfort zones to work through hidden issues from

their past and to make strate-gic sacrifices for the sake of their families and their faith. It may not be a study for eve-ryone. Those men who are prompted by the Lord to take the challenge will find that living out “The Resolution” will radically impact their priorities and will assist them in becoming strong men who are found faithful. It will take courage, but it will be worth it.

Birthdays & Anniversaries...

Youth Pastor...

Summer days are flying by quickly! Here are just some of the highlights so far.

It was great to spend a week at camp with the Middle School students. We got rained on a couple times but it didn’t do anything to dampen our camp fun! The Gospel was shared and many campers responded by giving their lives to Christ.

I was also able to take up a small group of guys back-packing to Pamelia Lake. There is something very spe-cial about retreating to a quiet place. We were awed by God’s beautiful creation of Mt. Jefferson and had great

opportunities for meaningful conversations.

I am anticipating over 80 campers attending High School Camp at Tapawingo. Please pray that God would use this time to enable camp-ers to establish and deepen their relationship with Jesus. Also pray that the campers will get connected to churches and youth groups so they will continue to grow outside of camp.

The Youth Group students are all invited to participate in the upcoming Rock Solid Soccer Camp, July 23rd–27th. Those students interested in participating should contact

Pastor Sorin at famcrivceag@ymail.com.

The Annual Church Rummage Sale is the last week of July; the Youth Group helps set up and get things ready for the sale, but we also receive a portion of the proceeds so let’s make our presence known.
