Dealing effectively with emotions is a key leadership skill.

And naming our emotions (labeling) is an important step in

dealing with them.

Unfortunately, many of us struggle to identify what exactly

we are feeling.And there are a variety of

reasons why this is so difficult to express them…

1. We’ve been trained to believe that strong emotions should be

suppressed.2. We have certain society rules against

expressing them.3. We’ve never learned a language to

accurately describe our emotions.

Name your feelings

Words really matter. Learn to identify your feeling, giving it a

name that best describe it. The process of giving a name provides us

insights about your personality and attitudes.

Consider the intensity of the emotion

As you label your emotions, also rate them on a scale of 01-10.

Such approach helps to think about your future actions and procedures, avoiding

misunderstanding and unnecessary conflicts.

Write it down

When you write down about what you are feeling, you develop new perceptions

about your emotions. It is a great opportunity to look for better explanations about the main reasons of such strong feelings, letting common

sense prevail.
