Pastor’s Message
The Feast Of
The Holy Translators
The Feast Of The Holy Translators is one of our most important
national and religious feasts, which has a great significance to the
Armenian Church and Armenians as well. At the end of the 4th century,
Greeks and Persians, two strong states bordering Armenia, had divided and
ruled Armenia and tried to control Armenians by imposing their rules.
It was at this critical time when King Vramshabouh, the king of
Armenia, along with the Catholicos, St. Sahag and Saint Mesrob Mashdots,
deeply concerned about their homeland and nation, got together to save the
homeland and the nation. They felt the great need for the Armenian people
to have an alphabet of their own, to be able to read and write in their own
language. So St. Mesrob petitioned the Catholicos, Saint Sahag, and
together they requested financial aid from King Vramshabouh.
After in-depth research and many travels, St. Mesrob was able to
come up with a blueprint of an alphabet. However, it did not completely
meet the needs of the Armenian language. According to tradition, while
meditating in a cave near the village of Palu, the saint had a vision in
which, "the hand of God wrote the alphabet in letters of fire." Upon his
return St. Mesrob was received with great honor and much joy by St. Sahag
and King Vramshabouh.
Immediately after the discovery of the alphabet, the Holy
Translators began to translate the Holy Bible and the first translation was
the Book of Proverbs, "To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the
words of understanding." They also opened schools to teach the newly
discovered alphabet, among whose students were the famous translators St.
Sahag and St. Mesrob, Yeghisheh, Movses Kertoghahayr, Tavit Anhaght
Pilisopa, Krikor Naregatsi, Nerses Glayetsi and others.
After the discovery of the alphabet, St. Mesrob spent many years of
translating and writing literary and ecclesiastical works. The Holy
Translators have also translated the works of world famous authors, thus
setting the foundation of a new era. Because of their great achievement, the
Fifth century is called “Hayots Vosgetar” (The Armenian Golden Century).

The Feast Of The Holy Translators
(Continued from the previous page)
To keep the memory of the Holy Translators alive through the centu-
ries, the Armenian Church commemorates, with great respect, the Feast of
the Holy Translators, during the month of October.
Today, it is our duty to carry on the torch which was handed over to
us by our Holy Forefathers. Today we are in need of a new “Vosgetar.” We
are in need of saints like Mesrob, Sahag, and Vramshabouh to keep alive our
faith and culture. If we keep our faith and remember our rich culture, our
Armenian heritage will perpetuate forever.

Message from the Board Varoujan Der Simonian, Chairman
With the grace of our Lord, September 5, 2014, is now etched in our
church history book as the day that you, our parishioners, witnessed the
dedication and the grand opening of our new plaza and the blessing of the
double sided monument representing our faith and mission in life to the
centennial consecration of our Sanctuary. We thank His Eminence
Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate of the Western Prelacy, who
blessed and presided over the ceremony. In our next Voice issue, we will
list the names of our supporters who, through their generous financial con-
tributions made the restoration of the Sanctuary and the building of the
new plaza possible.
We are only a month away from yet another milestone occasion to publicly
praise the Almighty for granting us the opportunity to celebrate the
100th anniversary of the construction of our house of worship. Her pres-
ence in the heart of downtown Fresno symbolizes our centuries of faith
and Christian heritage. It is in this sanctuary that the Fresno Armenian
community gathered and continues to assemble to glorify the Almighty.
Through His Grace we further our mission while serving our parishioners.
By now you should have received the elegant invitation to our much antici-
pated banquet. The centennial celebration committee co-chaired by
Michelle Asadoorian and Leslee Minas and their committee members are
doing a fantastic job in making sure we will have a memorable eve-
ning. We urge you to send your reservations in as early as possible and
also to contact your friends and family members to join. After all, the Holy
Trinity is the Mother church for all subsequent Armenian Apostolic
churches in California. Each one of the banquet attendees will receive a
beautiful gift that Jill Eskender and Margaret Shirin are working on that
you will treasure for years to come!
Furthermore, to memorialize this banquet, Frank Balekian and Melissa Pi-
lavian are diligently working to prepare the commemorative booklet where
you have the opportunity to honor your family or remember your loved
ones(s). Please contact them by October 6, to place your request. There
are three levels from which you may choose to place your message. The
booklet will be a keepsake in which your heirs and friends will have pride
as they read of your commitment toward our faith and mission.
Your presence at the centennial banquet is a valuable testimony of your
faith and continued support. The Prelate, His Eminence Archbishop Mardi-
rossian, Der Vahan and your board members will be anxious to warmly
greet you on November 1!

LADIES’ GUILD NEWS By: Sophie Mekhitarian
First things first. Our June combined meeting with Men’s Society is another
one of Patty Torosian’s success stories. All went well, however, the banquet
Patty and her magnificent crew prepared, as usual, was outstanding. Kudos
and thanks to Patty, who gathered her crew, worked and worked and not
only that, she also paid for the entire meal in memory of her parents Jack
and Mariam Torosian. How can we not be grateful!
Our September meeting was a wow event. We were ushered in with the fra-
grance of fresh flowers arranged by our décor gal Anna Shekoyan. The ar-
rangements were stunning. Thank you Anna. Along with the usual reports,
Susan Parnagian wowed us with the successful Bazaar Deliveries which all
had a hand in if not both and many times over. The sum of over $30,000
brought on a well-deserved applause. It wasn’t just the money, it was the
nods that folks gave for all the donated lunches to local non-profits. It is our
mission to begin each Bazaar Deliveries with donations to the needy organi-
zations. Sharing has been and will continue to be the source of our mission
and success at Holy Trinity.
October 10th is our annual Bazaar (not deliveries that Susan and crew do).
Bringing wisdom and experience to this year’s Bazaar are the duo co-chairs
of Lucille Gahvejian and Frances Tusan. We encourage everyone to come
out and enjoy lunch and the usual Bazaar goodies. Do bring family, friends,
and co-workers. That was an exciting wow for us as taking on chairmanship
is arduous work.
Mary Ekmalian, our Board Liaison was fielding questions on renovations,
banquet and donations. She wowed us with her knowledge, poise, and all
the accomplishments of our Board of Trustees. President Alice Gureghian
called on Sunshine Lady Rosemary Minasian for a report. That was brief,
however, her joke brought on a hearty lengthy laugh which was probably
heard in Erzurum. Way to go ghoorbon.
To make sure everyone was happy with dinner, President Alice found her
way to the Dog House Grill and got us tri-tip sandwiches with the trim-
mings.
Ruby Baladjanian, our treasurer, was assisted by Aida Abrahamian who
plans our trips. Aida has one planned to Livermore on October 25th. Please
give Aida a call and have your $35.00 check ready if you plan to go.
17
A bit of a wow was having two guest speakers at our meeting. Dave
Fatula spoke on little known facts on nutrition while Susan Siemens
directed our attention to financial well- being. Both were passionate
about their respective topics as well as informative.
Thank you Vice President Sharon Toroian for such an enlightening
program and for bringing your friend, our guest, Lara Simonian. Lara
is our 7th and 8th grade Sunday school teacher. Welcome Lara.
You may well assume that our Der Hayr Gosdanian begins and ends
each meeting with a prayer, particularly the Lord’s Prayer. What you
may not know is the prayer President Alice says before she begins
each business meeting: Zgortsus tserats merots. Sharon will be at-
tempting it at our October meeting as Alice will be in Armenia bap-
tizing three youngsters. We wish Alice and Garo a safe and fruitful
trip. Baree veradarts.

Hye’d Out News
Hello Everyone.
The new school year has started and the new year for the youth
group has started as well. With an influx of young Junior High students we
have changed the times for our youth groups. The new schedule for youth
group will be Junior High Youth Group (6th grade through 8th grade) will
start at 4 PM and conclude at 6:00 PM. The High School + Youth Group
will start at 5:30 and end at 7:30. Both groups will have dinner together from
5:30-6:00 PM.
Our Tuesday Night Basketball and Bible Study is going well. We
have a great time playing basketball together and then working through the
book of 1st Samuel. We are looking at the relationship between King Saul
and David right now and seeing that whatever the circumstances are that
David remains faithful to God.
Our College and Career
Group is going through the Book
of James. This is a small book,
but it really teaches us how to live
the Christian life. This group
meets on Friday nights from 6:30-
8:30. We meet at the Hyed Out or
in people’s homes. If you need
more information about this group
please call Menas Arisian or my-
self and we will let you know
what is going on.
Saturday October 4th we will be having a rummage sale at the Church
Gym. We will be collecting items that can be resold from September 27th to
October 2nd. If you would like to donate please call me (559) 433-7066 or
the church office. This will be a fundraiser for our group as well as helping
support Rafael Asiryan. He is the young man that has required many surger-
ies and extensive rehab to help him live a pain free life.
May God continue to bless us and His Church!
In His Service,

PASS IT ON… Submitted By: Krista Parnagian
Being a Christian is like being a Pumpkin
A lady recently asked her co-worker what it was
like to be a Christian? The lady replied, “It’s like
being a pumpkin: God picks you from the patch,
brings you in, and washes all the dirt off you
may have gotten from the other pumpkins. Then
he cuts the top off and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes
the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc., then He carves you a new smiling
face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.”
Sunday Morning Services
in English from 9:15 am - 10:00 am
in our Church Sanctuary
Prior to Badarak
On the last Sunday of each month.
(The next one will be on October 26)
Please invite your family and friends to attend.
