Pastor’s Message
TRANSFIGURATION
OF OUR LORD
JESUS CHRIST
"As they watched, His appearance changed
so that His face shone like the sun and His
clothing became dazzling white." Mt. 17:2
Jesus, along with Peter, James, and his brother John went to
the top of Mount Tabor for His daily meditation and prayer. The dis-
ciples were very tired and could not stay awake while Jesus began
His meditation and prayer. Suddenly, His appearance changed so
that His face shone like the sun and His clothing became dazzling
white.
And then Moses and Elijah appeared next to Jesus, and like
Jesus they had a shining appearance and dazzling white clothing.
They were discussing the remaining life of Jesus on this earth, the
persecution, His journey to Jerusalem, and the crucifixion.
Moses and Elijah were two of the greatest prophets in the
Old Testament. Moses represents the law. He wrote the Pentateuch,
where he predicted the coming of a great Prophet, Jesus. (Deut.
18:15-19). Elijah represents the prophets who foretold the coming
of the Messiah (Mal. 4:5-6). Their presence with Jesus confirms His
messianic mission to fulfill God’s law and the words of God’s
prophets.
The disciples woke up because of the shining light, and they
saw Jesus’ shining face along with the other two persons. They
were happy, but at the same time confused. At this time Peter said
to Jesus, "It's wonderful that we can be here! If Y ou want me to, I'll
make three tents, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah."
Suddenly a bright cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud
said, "This is my beloved Son, and I am pleased with Him. Obey
Him."
Hearing this voice, the disciples fell face downward to the
ground, confused and frightened. At this time Jesus approached
them and trying to comfort them, He said, "Get up, don't be afraid."
6
Hearing Jesus' voice, they raised their heads and looked; There was only
Jesus standing next to them, no one else, and everything was back to
normal. Just as God's voice in the cloud over Mount Sinai gave authority
to His law (Ex. 19:9), God's voice at the Transfiguration gave authority
to Jesus' words. The disciples were anxious and wanted to understand
what they had seen and heard, so they spent the rest of the night asking
Jesus questions. On their way down the mountain, Jesus asked them not
to tell anyone what they had seen on the mountain until after His resur-
rection. He knew that they didn't completely understand what they had
seen and heard and could not explain what they didn't understand.
The Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ should
transfigure and illuminate our souls. That's the essence of the message to
us today. We should pray that God gives us the wisdom to be able to
understand His message.

Message From the Board By: Bill Sahatdjian, Board of Trustees Chairman
Summer has quickly approached us. We continue to have triple-digit
temperatures, but that has not stopped the ongoing activities at Holy Trinity
Armenian Apostolic Church.
The month of June was productive for us with many exciting events. On
Tuesday, June 16, the Annual June Joint Dinner took place in the church social
hall. This dinner, held once a year, where members of the Men’s Society and
Ladies’ Guild, along with their spouses and friends come together for an evening
of great company and fellowship. For the past few years, the Ladies’ Guild has
been hosting the dinner. Dedicated member Patty Torosian, each year organizes
the event and prepares and donates the food in memory of her parents, Jack &
Mary Torosian We thank Patty in all her efforts. God bless you!
On Sunday, June 21, His Eminence Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian, Prelate
of the Western Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America celebrated
the Divine Liturgy and delivered the sermon. His Eminence consecrated the
recently installed painting in the church sanctuary illustrating the baptism of
King Dertad III by St. Gregory the Illuminator in 301 AD – the year that
Armenia officially declared Christianity as our national religion. The Very
Reverend Boghos Tinkjian was also amongst us to celebrate this joyous
occasion. In his sermon, His Eminence wished every father a Happy Father’s
Day. He said, “I congratulate all the fathers here today, wishing you many years
of good health and prosperity.” Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of
the painting to our Christian Armenian faith by stating, “St. Gregory changed the
course of our nation and secured our place in history as the first Christian nation
and thus shaped our religious, cultural, and national identity.” We thank Patty
Torosian and the Christian Education Committee for providing mezza enjoyed
by the attendees.
Vacation Bible School began Sunday, June 28 and continued through Thursday,
July 2. The event was a success with many students participating between the
ages of 3 and 12. Each night students were served dinner by the different aid
organizations of the church, followed by learning how Jesus’ Love is One-Of-A-
Kind. We would like to thank the committee members: Der Hayr, Leslie Antazo,
Kevork Ajamian, Jason Davis, Barbara Mortanian, and Patty Torosian and to all
those volunteers in putting together a successful VBS. Thank you for your
dedication to our church and of our youth.
On behalf of Der Hayr and the Board of Trustees, we wish you all a happy and
safe summer months. Reminder that the new church office hours are Monday-
Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. We hope to see you all at the Annual Grape Blessing
and Food Festival on Sunday, August 9 at the California Armenian Home.

We have just come out of Graduation Season. We have been
able to celebrate with our recent graduates and are very happy and
proud of their accomplishments. I had the pleasure of going to
graduations at Buchanan High School, Bullard High School, and
Clovis North High School. It is good to see our young people finish the
first chapter in their lives and be ready to move on to the next chapter.
We have great intelligent young people who will be the future of our
church and community.

your family are having a good time at VBS. We are learning about
God’s Love through Weird Animals that are very fun! We are also
having Youth Group during the summer and look forward to having a
great summer together.
The Youth Group would like to thank the Church for their
continual support and guidance. May God bless us as we follow

Sunday School News By: Mrs. Sato Sanikian, Superintendent
Throughout the 2014-2015 school year, our dedicated staff diligently
volunteered their time to teach our children about Christ’s teachings,
fellowship, and Armenian Church education. One of our continuing goals
was to carry on the teachings of our church sharagans to our students. Mrs.
Dzovig Kutumian (accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Gallistl) taught our
students sharagans and they sang in church on a few occasions. To further
educate our students about our church sharagans, our church choir and
Sunday School spearheaded a youth choir. We had over 14 students who
sang with the church choir last month. A special thank you goes out to
Sharon Toroian, Kevork Ajamian, Lauren Sarabian, and Margaret Gallistl
who taught the sharagans to our students. We were also blessed again this
year to have our deacons teach monthly lessons on the Armenian Church to
all of our students. We are very thankful to our Parent Faculty Club who
organized our social events throughout the year. Our Parent Faculty Club
executive members are as follows: Tina Nakashian (Chairperson), Kristine
Arax (Secretary), and Diana Pilibosian (Treasurer). I would like to thank
parents Diana Pilibosian and Larry Kirkorian for assisting in our office
each Sunday. I would also like to thank our office assistant, Narek
Israelian, who is ready to help with any project each Sunday morning.
Finally, I would like to thank Leslie Antazo for her time and energy to
ensure that our Sunday School is a successful program. Our Sunday School
program wouldn’t run smoothly without Leslie’s and Narek’s help.
Our school year ended with an awards celebration on May 31st. Our
students were promoted to the next grade level and 3rd graders received
their Personalized Bibles. The program concluded with an appreciation
from Parent Faculty Club honoring the devoted work of our Sunday School
staff.
I would like to thank the following students who had perfect attendance for
the 2014-15 school year: Varoujan Bagdassarian, Alex Simonian, and
Dominic Simonian. Also, we had several students who had less than 6
absences: Alec Boutoughian, Anthony Boutoughian, Arsho Kirkorian,
Nicole Kirkorian, Lucine Ohanian, Aren Sanikian, and Armani Sanikian.
Thank you to their parents for making sure that their children attended
Sunday School on a regular basis.

I would like to thank all of our students and their parents, grandparents, aunts,
and uncles. Without their parents and extended family, our students wouldn’t
be at Sunday School each Sunday. Lastly, I would also like to thank Der Hayr,
our supportive Church Board, and our outstanding Sunday School staff who
dedicate each and every Sunday to our students.

LUCI’S TREASURE COVE By: Lucille Gahvejian
Our Annual Food Bazaar will be held on
Friday, October 2. This year we are
planning a very unique shopping
experience for all who attend. With this
in mind we are asking for your help in
making it happen. During the next
couple of months please search deep in
to your cupboards, closets, attics,
basements and beyond for unusual
hidden treasures that you have been
keeping for just the right occasion.
Well, the time is now for you to share those one-of-a kind items and
collectibles.
We are requesting a variety of salable, gently used or new treasures in the
way of household and decorator items, glassware, ceramics, pottery,
vases, china, serving pieces, silver, pillows, statues, jewelry, vintage
clothing, pictures, books, handmade items, and tasteful souvenirs from
travels. We would especially like to showcase novelty items from
Armenia, for example pomegranates, unusual demitasse cups and any
other things Armenian.
Ask your relatives and friends to
join in on the hunt for hidden
treasures to share. All donations
will be discriminately selected so
that all items are of similar
quality. Call Lucille at 431-4534
or Barbara at 284-8478 for
information and any questions
you may have. All profits benefit
the Holy Trinity Armenian
Apostolic Church.

PASS IT ON… Submitted By: Krista Parnagian
The Boeing 767
I sat in my seat of the Boeing 767 waiting for everyone to hurry and stow
their carry-ons and grab a seat so we could start what I was sure to be a long, unevent-
ful flight home. With the huge capacity and slow moving people taking their time to
stuff luggage far too big for the overhead and never paying much attention to holding
up the growing line behind them, I simply shook my head knowing that this flight was
not starting out very well. I was anxious to get home to see my loved ones so I was
focused on my issues and just felt like standing up and yelling for some of these
clowns to get their act together. I knew I couldn't say a word so I just thumbed thru the
"Sky Mall" magazine from the seat pocket in front of me. You know it's really getting
rough when you resort to the overpriced, useless sky mall crap to break the monotony.
With everyone finally seated, we just sat there with the cabin door open and no one in
any hurry to get us going although we were well past the scheduled take off time. No
wonder the airline industry is in trouble I told myself. Just then, the attendant came on
the intercom to inform us all that we were being delayed. The entire plane let out a
collective groan. She resumed speaking to say "We are holding the aircraft for some
very special people who are on their way to the plane and the delay shouldn't be more
than five minutes. The word came after waiting six times as long as we were promised
that I was finally going to be on my way home. Why the hoopla over these folks? I
was expecting some celebrity or sport figure to be the reason for the hold up... Just get
their butts in a seat and lets hit the gas I thought. The attendant came back on the
speaker to announce in a loud and excited voice that several U. S. Marines returning
home from Iraq were joining us! Just as they walked on board, the entire plane erupted
into applause. The men were a bit taken by surprise by the three hundred forty people
cheering for them as they searched for their seats. They were having their hands shook
and touched by almost everyone who was within an arm's distance of them as they
passed down the aisle. One elderly woman kissed the hand of one of the Marines as he
passed by her. The applause, whistles and cheering didn't stop for a long time. When
we were finally airborne, I was not the only civilian checking his conscience as to the
delays in me getting home, finding my easy chair, a cold beverage and the remote in
my hand. These men had done so much for all of us and I had been complaining silent-
ly about "me" and "my" issues. I took for granted the everyday freedoms I enjoy and
the conveniences of the American way of life. I took for granted how others paid the
price for my ability to moan and complain about a few minutes delay. I attempted to
get my selfish outlook back in order and minutes before we landed I suggested to the
attendant that she announce over the speaker a request for everyone to remain in their
seats until our heroes were allowed to gather their things and be first off the plane. The
cheers and applause continued until the last marine stepped off and we all rose to go
about our too often taken for granted everyday freedoms… I felt proud of them. I felt
it an honor and a privilege to be among the first to welcome them home and say thank
you for a job well done. I vowed that I will never forget that flight nor the lesson
learned. I can't say thank you enough, to those veterans and active servicemen and
women who may read this, and I pray for those who cannot because they are no longer
with us. Message: Take time to thank those who make it possible for us to enjoy all
that we have. God wants us to be thankful and count our blessings daily.

OUTREACH COMMITTEE
The Outreach Committee was asked to give VBS a Cooking Class again this year.
We all had fun and accomplished making Cheese Borag, and enjoyed eating our
results last year. This year Serpouhie Messerlian stepped forward and volunteered
to spearhead the Cooking class, and Mary Ekmalian, and Sona Jones joined in to
give us a good group. Since the VBS theme is animals, we will attempt to create
animal cookies, and have cookies and milk for each class. A reminder to all our
Church Members we have our Annual Picnic coming up on August 9th. Have a
great Summer.
