… so google docs

… when we notice

We start to fix it …

Meet Dane ….

5 x clients

15 minutes checking each client for issues… Daily

5 x 5 x 15 = 6 ½ hours … per week!

This means monitoring ….

How ? – Google docs FTW

In a google doc, click add-ons …. & install

Next bit is actually pretty easy …

Follow the wizard but select the metrics

Metrics Sessions

Dimensions Dates Medium

This outputs a spreadsheet that needs to be formatted into a pivot table graph.

View IDs

A massively important part of this process is the view ID – Login to Google Analytics Go to “Admin” of the account you want click on

view settings Get the View ID

Rinse and repeat …

Repeat for every client … Run. Creating the graphs ….

So why sites …

Its actually pretty hard to build the cool dashboards in Google sheets

Getting more than one graph on a page is challenging

Sites makes it easy to make a private dashboard that you can integrate any content into it!

You can have multiple pages so split the graphs by account manager for instance – have a separate page for PPC

We can now easily monitor sites

This means we are the first to see spikes and drops in clients analytics accounts if they are using Google Analytics and are correctly tagging campaigns.

In the future we hope to be able to push out more updates to our own platform

Our next steps for us are to pull the data into a SQL database for crazy smart monitoring and analysis, we are already doing this for PPC via Analytics Canvas. http://www.analyticscanvas.com/

We’ve been hit by ….

Panda

Penguin

Caffeine

A Smooth Criminal

The penguin tool from barracuda is awesome …

www.barracuda-digital.co.uk/panguin-tool/

But we felt we could go better as we needed - - Seasonality

- Client Updates

- Interactivity

What we came up with Was a pretty awesome self running solution, interactive, zoomable with year on year 7 day average data visualisation that could be copied and given to clients

Overlaid with all the Google Updates

The tech geek bit ….

The data from Moz -

http://moz.com/google-algorithm-change

Build your own….

Login to Google Analytics Get your View ID Go to - http://bit.ly/svpenda Make a copy Put in your view ID Install the GA Add in Run Analyse ….

Similarly create a spreadsheet for all your clients speed….

Benchmarking makes the data far more useful…. Run monthly to spot issues …

so … Google docs & analytics

Can create the mother of a dashboard

Compare multiple sites quickly

Make an awesome Penda (name subject to change) tool

Want to see the Penda tool in action? – visit the SiteVisibility stand to get your site run through the tool!

Exports …

Export to Excel for Awesomeness ….

One thing that Google docs can’t do … awesome conditional formatting … and other awesomeness ….

Additional Monitoring everyone should do …

AWR – pretty awesome for daily / weekly rank checking http://www.AdvancedWebRanking.com/online/

StatusCake – free uptime monitoring & speed https://www.statuscake.com/

WMT Google Bing Yandex, Baidu etc.. if you are international
