THE CALENDAR
Term 1 Week 5 24 February 2020
Parent Information Sessions Over 530 parents were able to attend the twenty-five classroom information sessions held last Wednesday afternoon and evening. We highly value parental engagement and it was heartening to see that the time and effort, which teachers devoted to preparing each session, was not wasted. Thank you for attending and thanks also, to our dedicated teachers, for enthusiastically supporting the evening. Classroom Helper Training Sessions At the information sessions, 138 parents nominated to assist in classrooms. This is a marvellous result! On Tuesday 10 March, two classroom helper training sessions will be presented to parents interested in volunteering at school. Both sessions will be held in the annexe; the first at 9:15am and then repeated at 3:15pm. Teachers presenting, will give practical advice, including how best to support reading. Class Parent Representative (CPR) This year, parents have been encouraged to nominate themselves as a ‘class parent representative’ or CPR, to facilitate communication between our P&C Association, parents or teachers. Ideally, every class is encouraged to have a CPR. On Wednesday evening, parents were invited to add their contact details on the templates provided. (Please note that sharing contact details is voluntary.) Parents interested in nominating to be a CPR should let their child’s teacher know via note, this week. Names will be drawn from a hat, if teachers are inundated with responses. Our teachers will then advise the CPR of his or her selection. The completed lists filled in last week, will then be shared with the class parent representative. As indicated last week, parents using the contact lists must note that content considered inappropriate for distribution via the list includes use of phones and emails containing: • chain letters or hoax emails;
• spam e.g. unsolicited advertising material;
• negative or derogatory content about the school, its systems, staff, parents/carers or students;
• unacceptable or unlawful material or remarks, including offensive, threatening, defamatory or discriminatory content about a person or organisation;
• sexually explicit or suggestive material or correspondence; and
• messages used for own commercial/personal interests, political lobbying or any unlawful purpose. School Development Day Term 3 - Advance Notice of Variation To allow enough time to ensure that suitable arrangements are made for your children, last Friday, I emailed a letter to all parents advising the change of date in Term 3. The school development day will not be on the first day of Term 3. It will now be on Monday 17th August 2020. The JPPS OOSH (run by Primary OSHCare) has been notified of this change, to assist parents when planning supervision. School Development Days Term 4 - Advance Notice of Variation This year, the students’ last day of school will be, Wednesday 16th December. There are two scheduled training days for teachers on Thursday 17th December and Friday 18th December. However, our teachers have opted to re-schedule these last training days to four additional, after-school sessions, during Terms 1, 2, 3 and 4. This change will enable us to support our strategic directions more effectively during the year, as teachers can immediately plan and trial research-based strategies in classrooms, rather than waiting for 2021, to implement new learning. Instructional Rounds at JPPS This week, our school will host the first instructional rounds visit for 2020. JPPS is part of a network of teachers and leaders from five primary schools from north-west Sydney. By connecting and collaborating with other schools in professional dialogue, we aim to improve student learning by fostering best

practice. This week, our classrooms will be visited by teachers and executives from other schools; all observers annotating what our students are actually doing and learning in a variety of lessons. By using an objective analysis of our instructional core, we will be able to strategically plan future directions which are relevant to our needs.

FROM THE CANTEEN
FROM THE BAND
A very exciting day.The renovated canteen is now open and we are back in business for 2020 with our full menu! It has taken a lot of work by many people to get the renovation planned, approved, managed and completed and we are very thankful to everyone who helped renovate a canteen that was in its original state – apart from a coat or two of paint over the years. Please feel free to come and look at our new premises.
• Sushi – we are now offering sushi 5 days a week! • New items – we have some new items to offer this year - Butter Chicken & Rice, Coconut Thai
Chicken Curry & Thai Chicken Fried Rice. We have also changed to a new Macaroni & Cheese and Bolognaise Pasta Bake which is very similar to the Twista Bolognaise we offered last year but so much more delicious and healthy!
• Volunteers – we still have some empty spots on our roster so we are looking for more volunteers. If you are interested, please come in and see Donna or Anna.
• Prices – due to increased prices from our suppliers, and the increased cost of fruit and vegetables, we have unfortunately had to increase the price of some, but not all, of our items. In most cases, by no more than 20 or 50 cents.
• Updated menu – our menu can be found on the school website.
