INTRODUCTION

This report is intended to be valuable for the study of

• Raw materials and processing

• Energy Water requirements

• Major environmental impacts

• Waste Management

• Developing a more sustainable future for the

textile industry

IMPORTANCE

Clothes truly a basic human need , getting cheaper, they

follow fashion more rapidly and we’re buying more and

more

The Textile industry occupies a prominent position in Sri

Lanka’s industrial structure. It is considered as Sri Lanka’s

number one foreign exchange earner..

Minimizing environmental hazards while using the

resources efficiently, sustainable manufacturing has

became vital to cope with the increasing demand.

Textile industry is one of the

most complicated industrial

chains of manufacturing

industry.

It involves actors from

agricultural, chemical, retail,

service sector, waste

treatments etc.

RAW MATERIALS

World Demand

SUSTAINABILITY ???

Sustainable development is an organizing principle for human

life on a finite planet. It posits a desirable future state for human

societies in which living conditions and resource-use meet human

needs without undermining the sustainability of natural systems

and the environment, so that future generations may also have

their needs met.

Simply its Environmental friendly Materials

MANUFACTURING

Most of the time in textile industry, Dyeing and

finishing processes use lots of CHEMICALS

Chemical dyes

Resins to make fabrics

Softeners to improve the feel

So careful handling is vital

PROPER DISPOSAL

Since the industrial effluents are vulnerable to

environment proper disposal should be vital

Industry experts should take their maximum

effort to recycle the byproducts and waste or

either treat it before exposing to Environment

Most of the time

Textile Industry depends

on energy taken out

from fossil fuels.

It contribute to the

green house effect by

enhancing the amount of

CO2 release.

RENEWABLE SOURCES OF ENERGY

Production methods

need to be improved to

consume less power

Also companies should

start using alternative

power sources. Like solar

and wind

FUTURE TECHNOLOGY

For the upliftment of the industry and for a greener world

technology can also play a major role.

• Advancements in Nano technology can be used to

replace general raw materials into an more chemically

advanced and reliable ones.

• Robotic technology can be used for an efficient working

environment with less wastage of resources.

4R CONCEPT

4R concept is one of the best concepts which can be

applied into textile industry for a sustainable future
