Dear Parents, While Mrs Wilson is on holidays I have been enjoying my role as
Relieving Principal. Mrs Wilson returns to school on Wednesday, 22nd
June.
Teachers have been busy writing Semester 1 reports which will be sent
home with students next Wednesday, 22nd
June. The report will also
contain an invitation to all parents/carers to attend parent teacher
interviews the following week. Please read your child’s report carefully
and talk with them about it. Any questions or concerns you have about
your child’s progress can be discussed during the interviews. We look
forward to meeting with ALL parents.
Also, a friendly reminder to send your child to
school in the morning wearing a jumper. The cool/cold weather has
finally arrived and many students are still coming to school without a
warm jumper on.
Included with this Informer is information about “Learning Social Skills
through Sport”, a new program that will be running at The Grange next
term. The P&C and the school will be subsidising the cost of this very
worthwhile program.

Growth Mindset
Teachers have engaged in training around the
Growth Mindset.
When we have a growth mindset, we believe
that our own and others’ intelligence can be
grown or developed with persistence, effort
and a focus on learning. An educator with a
growth mindset believes that with effort and
hard work from the learner, all students can
experience significant growth and therefore, all
learners deserve opportunities for challenging
learning experiences. A teacher armed with
instructions that cater to all students’ needs
and instructions that promote critical and
creative thinking, holds the recipe for optimal
student learning.
When developing students’ Habits of Mind
over the coming years, students’ growth
mindset will encourage each Habit to be grown
and extended.
The growth mindset training supports Strategic
Direction 1: Developing Successful 21st Century
Learners.

PARENT SOCIAL GROUP
Come and join us in our quest this winter to create some nice and warm rag rugs.
What You’ll Need: (Rug Making) source: INHABITAT
Long strips of fabric (old sheets and curtains are ideal, and far easier to work with than t-shirt scraps
sewn together to make them longer)
Sewing scissors
A ruler
Pins
Safety pins
Sewing needle(s)
Thread in a colour that’s neutral to the fabrics you’re working with
Braided rag rugs have been around for centuries, and with good cause: they’re an ideal use of upcycled
fabric, and they’re so sturdy that they can last a really long time. Since you’ll likely be staring at yours for
years to come, it’s important to use colours that you won’t mind staring at for the next few decades. You
may be completely enamoured by rainbows now, but you might not have the same passion for them down
the line, so it may be best to either go with more neutral shades, or at the very least, a monochromatic
palette.
You can often find some great deals on cloth at large fabric stores: if they only have a yard or two of a
particular fabric left, they’ll often mark it down like crazy, and you can score some beautiful colours at 1/2
to 1/4 their original price. If you’re in love with a particular cloth, but they only have a single yard of it, get
it anyway! You can sew the cut strips end-to-end to make one long one, and it’ll add a lovely vibrance to the
carpet you’re creating.
Parents are meeting at school to give support for this quest every Tuesday (9:15-9:45am) or Thursday
(3:15-3:45pm) at Kindy/Playgroup room.
See you there!
DID YOU KNOW….
QUICK SANDWICH FILLERS
cheese with celery or sliced cucumber
grated cheese and carrot
cheese and lettuce
canned salmon with lemon juice, lettuce or spring onions
sweet corn with lettuce
avocado, low-fat cottage cheese or hummus as a healthy spread on sandwiches.
Be healthy – be active
Children and adults need physical activity every day. Activity helps build better bones,
muscles, joints and helps maintain a healthy weight. Physical activity can also reduce the
risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Get active anyway you can -
walking, riding, swimming, and playing active games such as Duck, Duck, Goose or Bull
Rush.
How can I help my child at home with Maths?
Younger students:
Identify and explain visual patterns on clothing, wrapping paper and furniture.
Encourage your child to draw, create and describe their own patterns. Use them for borders
or greeting cards or on material.
Build a tower of blocks that is taller than a favourite toy. Ask your child to count the total
blocks to measure the height of the tower.
Use a wall measuring chart to measure the height of people in your family.
Older students:
How does your favourite sport tally the score? What maths is presented on the tally?
How do other sports tally the score, for example, tennis, golf, cricket, netball, football?
Can you identify your starting point on a bus/train timetable?
What is the earliest and latest time to travel on this route? What is the difference?
How long does it take to travel the entire route?
Chess Club News
Chess Club has been running for 5 weeks of Term 2. We would like to thank Mrs Wilson for the 7 new chess sets that the school purchased. Now everyone can have a proper set to play on. There are 2 player levels - a beginner and a more experienced player level. Sometimes, the more experienced players will help the beginner players by playing games with them and teaching them the rules about the game. It is after school on Thursdays from 3-4pm. Parents cannot stay but they can come at 4pm to pick up their child. It is a great experience and fun because you can make new friends and learn new skills.
