Take the “Work” Out of Networking

Does networking make you feel like this?

What’s in it for You!

Re-framing Networking How to work the room How to create an Intro-mercial Networking practice Speed Networking

What bothers you about networking?

It feels too fake and

unnatural

I hate talking about myself

I don’t like my pitch

I don’t know how to engage

Networking Mistakes Most People Make…

Making it about closing…

Think it’s about Bragging…

Forget Net“Working” start…

Net “Exploring”

Explore and Discover…

How you can help someone A new business, product or service Fashion trends A funny or interesting story Mutual connections/experiences

In other words…

Make it about them & not you!

Networking Prep

Visualize the outcome you’d like to have

Read or repeat positive affirmations

Develop an “alter ego”

Dress to Express

Decide on an objective/goal

Make it a game…

Chat with X amount of people/type of person

Compliment X amount of people

Ask X amount of people what they need

NOT give or get X amount of business cards!

NOT give X amount of elevator pitches

Working the Room

Look for and maintain open body positions

Eyebrow flash! Subtly mirror people

you want to meet Watch people’s feet! Start with POSITIVE

small talk

Which people would you approach?

Dis-Engaging

Physically break rapportSAY:

“I’m going to refresh my drink” “It’s been great chatting with

you…” … I’m going to go mingle some

more … let’s stay in touch … there’s someone I have to go

say hi to

“… And what do YOU do?”

But how do I answer…

Ditch the Pitch

Elevator PitchA short, concise boring description of yourself, your business, your product or your service full of jargon and empty language which will bore a listener and cause them to glaze over.

@SpeakETC

Intro - mercialA short, concise description of yourself, your business, your product or your service which will engage a listener and encourage them to take some further action.

Start with WHY?

WHAT you do is less important…

Then WHY you do it!

@SpeakETC

WIIFT (What’s In It For Them?)

Emotional reasons have more impact!

Discover what your listener needs, wants &

values

Engage Left AND Right Brain

LEFT BRAIN Language Logic Categories Linear thinking Numbers Details Analysis

Quotation@SpeakETC

Informing / Assuring Them

results you have produced @SpeakETC

Use Metaphors & Analogies

“If I can’t see it, I don’t understand it.” - Einstein
