Background
CYDA in collaboration with UNICEF is planning to implement “Improved WASH Access in
19 health facilities and 50 community toilets in slums under the Pune Municipal Corporation
areas” project. It is related to Bio Medical waste and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Hospital
and 11 Hospitals, 8 dispensaries and 50 selected community toilets in PMC area. We have
list of 11 hospital and 8 dispensaries for assessment of BMW and WASH in Health Facilities
in 11 hospitals & 8 dispensaries under PMC. The project will look into the gender perspectives
to ensure access and use of WASH facilities in the community and health facilities. Children,
adolescents and women are most affected among all during this situation. The project will be
implemented in the Government Facilities targeting patients irrespective of class, gender and
age disaggregation, etc. The access to these facilities is free or with very nominal fees as
these is run by the PMC – Urban Local Body. These hospitals and dispensaries are spread
across the city and already focus on equity and access. An effort will also be made to sensitize
the staff of the hcfs on gender equity and access through interactions, orientation and bringing
in the elements in the sops and checklists.
1. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
A. To understand gaps in the existing WASH Infrastructure among the selected
hospitals and dispensaries.

19. DHANKAWADE HOSPITAL, BALAJINAGAR
a. Existing Status of Hospital/Wash Infrastructure Gaps
PWSS is the main source of water. No any other source of water for drinking as well as
other purpose
Water is stored in overhead RCC water tank and underground water tank.
There is provision for Drinking water purification process, still need one more water filter
at first floor.
The existing toilet blocks are good in condition and there is no need of any retrofitting and
renovation work.
There is no separate toilet in the Hospital for person with special needs.(PWD)
The FSM is done by connecting soil pipe to corporation drainage line.
There are several hand wash basins in the hospitals and it requires the renovation such
as broken tap replacing, waste water management.
For BMWM there is segregation of waste and all record keep maintained.
