FROM FATHER TERRY J+M+J
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means, ‘God is with us.’” (Mt 1:23) Merry Christmas! We rejoice today with inexpressible joy because God is with us! We celebrate the day that God became one like us. Jesus loves us so much that he came racing down to be with us and save us. How blessed are we, each and every one of us. Christmas reminds us of something that changes
everything. God is with us! At each moment, God is with us! In our prayer lives, God is with us! In our loved ones, God is with us! In our joys, God is with us! In our accomplishments, God is with us! In our struggles, God is with us! In our sufferings, God is with us! In our grief, God is with us! At the end of our lives, God is with us! We always need Christmas, but in a special way this year. In the midst of the pandemic, GOD IS WITH US!
On behalf of Fr. Jack, Fr. Joe, Fr. Pius, Deacon Reynold, and the staff, we wish all a Merry Christmas! May each of us experience the love, peace, hope, and refreshment of the Christ child, knowing that God with us!
The Christmas season is from Christmas Day until the Baptism of the Lord, which falls this year on Sunday, January 10. Within the Christmas season, we have so many beautiful celebrations. These include, the Holy Family, Mary, the Holy Mother of God (our patronal feast day), the Epiphany of the Lord, and the Baptism of the Lord. There are also a variety of saints celebrated. Within the Christmas season is the Christmas Octave (Latin for eight). This is an eight-day period from Christmas until Mary, the Holy Mother of God (January 1). Interestingly, the eight days are treated as one “day” of Christmas to help better celebrate this special day. Thus, the word “today” is used in some prayers and prefaces. It is also during the octave that those saints called “the companions of Christ” are celebrated.
Due to the precautions, some of you may feel uncomfortable around the crowds at the Christmas Eve and Day Masses, which is certainly understandable. Another option is to attend a Mass during the Christmas season, especially during the Christmas Octave. The daily Masses will surely have lower Mass attendance. This is just an idea. Please know that currently there is no obligation to attend any Masses. Further, anyone feeling ill, older than 64 or having health issues, are urged at this time to stay home. Please use your best judgment when choosing to attend Mass. I also remind you that our daily Masses and weekend Masses are livestreamed.
Mass attendance certainly rises on Christmas, even during COVID! We are glad that so many made reservations for Mass to celebrate Jesus’ birth. If you do not usually attend Sunday Mass, you are always welcome here! Also, please know that we are livestreaming our Sunday and daily Masses, Holy Hours, and Rosaries. I invite you to be with us each week, either in person or via livestream. I know that you will be happy with your decision to follow Jesus more intimately. If there is anything that we can do for you at MMOG, please feel free to contact us.
I am happy to announce that we have a new Administrative Assistant! She is Saira (pronounced Sarah) Herboth. We are so blessed to have her with us. I believe that you will love her and that she will do an amazing job. Saira is planning to start on Friday, December 18. She will introduce herself in a bulletin article in the near future. Please keep Saira in your prayers during her transition.
A long-standing tradition in the diocese on Christmas is to have a second collection for Christmas Charities for Children and Youth. The proceeds support a number of programs in our diocese which serve many children and young people. Please be as generous as possible.
Finally, I would like to thank all those who took part in our giving trees and various charitable activities. Your generosity is incredible! You helped those in need to better know the love of the Christ child this Christmas. May God reward you for your kindness.
OFFERTORY COLLECTIONS
Due to an early deadline for this week’s bulletin, the
Offertory Collections totals from December 13 will
be included in next week’s bulletin.
Thank you for your generosity!
SOLEMNITY OF MARY,
THE HOLY MOTHER
OF GOD
MASS SCHEDULE
• Thur., Dec. 31 4:00 PM Corpus Christi
• Fri., Jan. 1 8:30 AM St. Patrick
• Fri., Jan. 1 9:30 AM St. Robert
• Fri., Jan. 1 11:00 AM St. Angela
Happy Advent! Welcome back to this section of our bulletin. I miss you so much and I continue to pray for all of you and an end to this pandemic we all know as COVID-19. I hope you are staying safe and healthy.
As Christmas approaches it will be a big effort to allow people to gather for Mass while doing everything possible to protect everyone’s health. We all need to work together to keep everyone safe. Therefore, I wanted to take a moment to review the guidelines and safety protocols set forth by the Diocese for our Christmas Masses.
• If you are not feeling well, please stay home.
• We ask that each parishioner bring with them a small piece of paper that includes their name, phone number, and email address.
• Masks are mandatory at Mass and must be worn properly (covering nose and mouth). If you have a medical exemption, please provide it to the parish office so that it will be recorded and honored by those who are monitoring to maintain a safe space for everyone.
• Everyone should be sanitizing their hands before entering the Church. Sanitizer is provided at the entrance.
• Please follow the instructions of the monitors and ushers; sitting in designated pews and respecting social distancing of six feet unless you are one family unit. This will be even more important at the Christmas Masses as they are at capacity. If everyone is to have a seat and maintain social distancing, we will all need to be seated by the ushers for these Masses.
• Please refrain from congregating before or after Mass.
• If anyone attending one of our Masses tests positive for COVID-19, please notify the office so we can start our contact tracing process.
