Visitors are drawn from the Bristol & Empire on the Eve the War section into the Duty Calls section by dramatic clusters of original propaganda posters.

In Remembering the Dead, an immersive digital interactive invites visitors to type in their surname, this then triggers a large projection ahead of them that artistically shows how many soldiers with that surname died, and how many of them were from Bristol.

At the beginning of the exhibition, visitors are able to select a wrist band associated with the character they chose to follow.

Visitors can contrast the innocence of the the characters visiting the Bristol International Festival on the eve of war with their lives as they change beyond recogintion as the war unfolds.

‘We discussed at the outset how the 18th Century Inrmary building we are housed within is the star artefact, and Simon’s designs reect this fully and with a great deal of empathy: the display is full of quirky and clever details; subtle touches that add up to a beautiful and visually appealing whole to interpret the former Inrmary ward space. ’
