MEET THE FOUR TABS

HELP IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE

Application instructions are here on the side throughout the whole application!

Clicking on the college will direct you to college specific information and application requirements.

Click “add” when you want to add a college to your dashboard.

Specific college information includes, deadlines, testing policies, application fees, required forms and recommendations, application fees and much more!

Dashboard: Provides a clear and convenient way to review deadlines and submission statuses for all the colleges to which you are applying! Note: This must match your Naviance Account.

Types of Decisions Early Decision (ED) Under Early Decision, students are permitted to apply early only to one college or university. If they are accepted, students are legally bound to attend that school (and are forbidden to apply to all other schools). Typically, Early Decision applications are due November 1.

Early Action (EA) Under Early Application or Early Action (also called multiple-choice early action), applications typically are due October 15, November 1-15, but may vary. Students are not required to commit to attending a particular college until May 1.

Restrictive Early Action (REA) - Single-Choice Early Action With Single-Choice Early Action, students are allowed to apply early to one college or university only (in other words, students are forbidden to apply to any other school using Early Applications or Early Decision applications). Typically, Single-Choice Early Action applications have due dates of between November 1 and 15.

Regular Admission Regular Admission applications are due to most colleges and universities between January 15 and February 1 (the University of California schools have a regular application deadlines of November 30). Each school’s Regular Application deadline should be noted and adhered to by student applicants.

Rolling Admission (Rolling Decision) Under Rolling Admission, there are no application deadlines; colleges accept applications and applicants throughout the year. Decisions to admit students are made on a case-by-case basis and students usually receive decision letters within 4 to 8 weeks.

Under the My Colleges Tab, each individual college has its own specific questions, deadlines and may also have additional writing supplements.

Details both the Application Fee and the number of Recommender Evaluations for individual colleges.

My Colleges Tab

College Specific Questions: Pay special attention to deadlines. Always verify on the college or university admissions website and look for terms of admission. Match the dates under “Colleges I am applying to in Naviance

Double check the college website for application dates and deadlines for major specific or merit based and other scholarship opportunities. Ex. USC

This is your opportunity to fill out college or university specific questions, such as major, living on or off campus, Decision Type, Legacy, Financial Aid, Short Answer.

College Specific Art Supplement

Some colleges give interested applicants the option to complete and submit an Art Supplement as part of their application. This is may be required through a service called SlideRoom.

Note: All dates are Eastern Time! That means 3 hours earlier! You will be referred to Naviance to request your recommenders! You must complete the Common App Matching in Naviance! (Blue Box)

You will request your teacher recommenders on Naviance under the Colleges Tab below “colleges I’m applying to”. Some colleges allow outside recommenders that may be linked directly to the Common Application.

Message: Your school is using Naviance eDocs.

You must complete the Education Section before the FERPA Release Authorization appears! Click on the Common App tab to begin working on the main part of the application.

FERPA To Waive or Not

To Waive? READ ON!

Also download a hard copy of the FERPA waiver from the Documents Library in Naviance and bring it to your counselor. No Letters of Recommendation will be released to colleges without it.

Sign and submit the FERPA WAIVER! Once this is done, it cannot be changed!

This information is important if you will be applying for Federal Financial Aid and is required if you will be filling out the FAFSA. This is also a good time to find out if the college requires the CSS Profile found on the Collegeboard website. Some colleges require it as a supplemental to the FAFSA. Check the college Financial Aid website or CSS Profile.

It is important to list ALL schools attended for any courses you have taken outside Del Norte High School. In most cases, official transcripts are required from all schools attended.

Report any colleges you attended, courses you took whether onsite or online and grades that you earned.

• Reported class size: 509

• Del Norte High School does not report rank.

• Use the weighted cumulative GPA

There are only 10 spots for Activities, so you may have to group them together in a logical way by similar activities. For example: Did you complete some community service or participate in an activity as a member of a club? List it as part of the functions and duties under the club, rather than separately.

College Specific Writing Supplement

Some colleges require applicants to submit a Writing Supplement. A college’s Writing Supplement can only be submitted after your application materials have been submitted.

Write your essay in Word and then copy and paste it into the application. A word of caution: Look at your essay after you copy and paste. You may have to fix the formatting. USE SPELL CHECK and remember this essay goes to ALL schools so do not be school specific in your essay.

If you are in the situation that you must answer yes to either of these questions: Please specifically discuss the situation with your counselor
